Chapter 8 - Bibi Dalair Kaur
Bibi Dalair Kaur was seventeenth-century Sikh woman who fought against the Mughals in the fort of Anandpur. In December 1705, after getting assurance from the Mughals, and on the request of Khalsa, Guru Gobind Singh ji, along with his family and Khalsa, decided to leave fort. He also thought that 'before leaving the fort, I should keep some people to guard it. Let me choose a new leader.' He took out an arrow from the quiver and asked all his students to stand in a line. He chose Bibi Dalair Kaur for the protection of the fort by tapping on her shoulder. He left fort by giving control to Bibi Dalair Kaur, and along with her 100 women and 10 men were also left to guard the fort. But as soon as he left the left the fort along with his troops, the Mughals did not keep their promise and attack the troop. She immediately understood that Guruji had been betrayed. She quickly rallied all the women and men, gave them a word of encouragement and got ready to fight the battle. The battle took a long time to finish. But it ended by taking the lives of those brave hearts who had stood guard to protect the forts. They had died due to the firing of cannons. I salute these brave hearts.
