Chapter 3 - Bappa Rawal
Bappa Rawal was the ninth descendent of the Guhila dynasty. This dynasty founder was Guha Datta. His actual name was Kalbhoj. He was born in 713 AD. When he was 3 years old, his father, Rawal Mahendra-II was assassinated. Another version states that his father Nag Aditya and all other male family members were killed in a battle with Bhils of Idhar. He was brought up by the Bheel tribal community, who taught him warfare tactics, battlefield tips and tricks. At the age of 21, he ascended the throne and became the king. When he became the king, he gave up his other titles, and kept the name, Bappa Rawal. Bappa means father and Rawal is his family name. He extended his kingdom to the east by defeating Man Singh of the Mori (Mauryan) clan from Chittor in 734 AD. Some sources state that he took the state of Chittor from Arab who are also known as Mlechchas. He was the first ruler to expand the territory to its current boundaries.
It said that he built the famous Eklingji temple. It is also said that he is the founder of Mewar which was formerly known as Maru Pradesh or also Medhapat. He died in 753 AD near Eklingji temple.
Only this much information I managed to gather and I might have forgotten or it got lost in memory. I will try to research about this courageous figure later. But I give the due credit to him for finding Mewar from under the sands of Rajasthan.
