XIV
Upon arrival to the Dojo humanity could witness firsthand at what the Tenno call a base. It is decorated lavishly, a spiraling dragon protrudes at the side, made from many pieces and parts. The complex itself is massive, yet, it doesn't seem to have any weapons on it's outside which everyone found weird. After being offloaded the ships go into orbit, massive cables attaching to the side of the structure, behind the dojo is a monstrous gash in the cosmos from which Void energy flows out. From the hangar everyone is lead through large metallic corridors to different points and rooms in which many beds have been laid out for the refugees to sleep in. They pass by bars, gardens, training room, Lily ponds, it is a whole city inside. Every room is different, some who stray soon discovered the laboratories that the Tenno use to study, make and research things. Everything is so luxurious, so elegant. To peoples surprise they see a Tori gate which poses a question. The timeline that the Tenno come from, how different is it from their current one. Did they have the same countries, same cultures, or did they simply coincidently have the same types of structures. After the civilians and the Guardians have been shown to their areas it was time for the higher ups to have a chat. They stood in a strange room, in the center of it stood some kind of red sphere and it looked out into the space. It had clearly been decorated with statues, plushies and makeshift people and creatures. Mara and Eris were extracted from their abodes, Mara was more willing than Eris but nothing an Atlas can't solve.
To them, this was all weird. Normally, creatures that are at war and fight for survival don't really have time to enjoy luxury or craft things that bring them pleasure. The Tenno seem carefree, a question is posed, why don't they liberate their system if they are this strong. Do they do this just for fun, or will liberating the system make their existence redundant? If they finish their mission, to what reason would they exist if the thing they were created for was gone. Who would they serve, what would they do? A being that is nigh immortal does get tired of living if there is no purpose for it. Fighting gives them a purpose, something to do, to kill away the boredom that comes from being a couple millennia old. Mara did not join the others, instead she went on to explore, for her, this is all exciting, this is all new. The walls have strange, yet beautiful writings on them. Orokin, from what she learned from one of the Tenno that had joined her in her palace, while horrendous bastard, were masters of beauty. Everything they created was as beautiful as the world in which she spent her time. How far ahead were these Orokin? What is the closest they have been to their level of technological development? They had capability to constantly change the shape of solid gold, to bend it to their will, they were able to create beings of war, skin made of sword steel, organs tied with untold resistance, foundries capable of replicating almost everything you put into them. As she pondered everything she walked into a large room where a massive statue of a person stood. Lotus flowers laid all around and the figure was a woman. She wore a large helmet that covered most of her face, only the mouth area left open. Large tubes went out from the helmet and in her hand, in one she held a lotus and in the other, a child. So this must be Lotus, their mother figure, the one that took care of them, that treated them not like devils, but as children, human beings which they were. They were just children that had powers that they were unstable, manifestation of emotions.
But one question always loomed over her, what awaits them on the other side? From what she is able to see, it is chaos, but easily manageable chaos. And what will happen to Guardians once the connection to the Traveler is severed. Will they still have their powers, will they have the power of Void, or will they just turn into normal humans, just like how everyone was? She isn't stupid, the ships, they are preparing to carry them through that rift and into their world, that is the only explanation. This Void does fascinate her a lot. She hears a familiar laugh behind her, as she turns around she sees her brother, Uldren Sov, or more familiar now, the Crow. But that isn't him. It is him, that wicked smile, those eyes, the stature, it all gave it away.
Man in the Wall: What worries you, Mara Sov, queen of the Awoken?
Mara: I think you already know that. What do you want?
Man in the Wall: Hahaha, why so serious? I just wish to talk to you. Is that such a bad thing.
Mara: From what I heard, you don't 'just talk' to someone. So I ask you again, creator of chaos, what do you want?
Man in the Wall: Oh, such a nice title, Creator of Chaos, I like it. I just want to assure you that you worry for naught. Your people won't be powerless nor meaningless.
Mara: How?
Man in the Wall: The Light and Dark will exist within my domain, my world, my wish. But for you, dear, I have a beautiful offer.
Mara: What offer do you speak of?
He changes his form in a blink of an eye, from her brother to a miniature version of Riven.
Man in the Wall: You are so fascinated by my gift, aren't you?
Mara: I must admit, your 'gift' is peculiar, a power that seemingly has no limit in of it's own. Able to create and destroy, manifest emotion and offer immortality. How?
Man in the Wall: I think you will have to find out that yourself, if you ever do. I can't just tell you that can I. What fun would that be?
Mara: I guess you are right. This offer, what is it?
He transforms into her which does send a shiver down her spine. To look at herself, almost a perfect copy of her, yet different in a unsettling way, an uncanny similarity. He extends out his hand, the Void energy flowing out from it, a wicked smile spread across his face.
Man in the Wall: As a welcoming gift, I offer you my gift.
Mara: Why?
Man in the Wall: I am a good host, I welcome everyone into my abode, with all sorts of gifts, if you are found worthy that is.
Mara: And I am?
Man in the Wall: Well of course, why wouldn't you be? I have watched you, observed you, studied you, from your creation to up until now. A strong mind, a smart mind and of course, experienced, a perfect combination, don't you say.
Mara looks at the hand that offers her the powers she is so fascinated with. It is tempting of course, such power could win over the whole of Sol system. But this is an offer, so there is another side to it.
Mara: And what do you get in return?
She(He) starts to laugh, smiling even more. Hearing herself laugh so manically makes her feel disgusted, creeped out, she herself would never laugh in such a way.
Man in the Wall: Such an observant one, hahaha, I like it. Don't worry, for now, think of it as free, but you will repay me in due time. Don't you worry. But, for now, I suggest you enjoy it as much as you can. Who knows what you might discover?
She knows that this is probably a bad idea, but the offer, even for someone as cautious and as experienced as her is too tempting. With a good swings she clasps her hand to his, confirming the deal and sealing her fate to whatever future might hold. The power flows through her, it is cold, yet warm, it smells of mint and fresh pine scent which she finds odd but ignores. In a flash, she witnesses herself die numerous times, it sends chills throughout her body but it quickly ends. The power dissipates into her, the figure is no longer here and she feels no different now. She expected much worse, but this was strangely disappointing, she expected pain, disgust, sorrow, dread, or anything, fear even, but nothing, instead she felt pleasant. Like if she was born with it, her right hand starts to glow with the same energy that she is used to, sparks of Void energy flow from her hand and hit the ground beneath her. But quickly stops, looking around if anyone had seen and when she confirms that there was nobody she feels relieved. She will have to keep this a secret, at least for now. Who knows how the Tenno might react to such a revelation? For now however she will return with the others, to see what they are up to.
As she enters the large room, inside is everyone that she is used to seeing. Lua, the leader of this batch of Tenno, forwards an order over the coms and all the ships turn their engines on to full. The radar had picked up that the enemy had found out where they are and are in pursuit. At first they move slowly but slowly and surely they pick up speed. They approach the large crack, slower than the speed of approach of their enemy. In unison, all the ships punch into overdrive and they are propelled towards the rift at incredible speed, as they approach it however, the tension grows. What will they witness when crossing? They will soon find that out as they enter into the crack. From the description, the Void sounded like hell, yet it was there, before them, in this plain of existence in between dimensions, in this self lawed nothingness. It was beautiful, a endless sea of this Void energy, so fluent, so beautiful, the whole room lit up just from the shine of this area. They all looked in amazement as they traveled through it. They saw a couple Orowyrms flying about, paying no head to them. Soon, they find another crack and go through it. Upon crossing they come across a scene that is both familiar yet alien at the same time. They see the Sun, Earth, Mars, every planet that you would have come to expect. Yet, at the same time, they have all been changed one way to another. As they park their dojo to let the ships recharge they are able to see how this side looks. They are near Earth, yet, the moon, it is different. It is shattered, a strange yet beautiful structure appears to hold it together. So this is it, another chapter in everyone's book. Another start in life, but the words of HIM still echo in Mara's mind, how will things go from here. All she can hope however is, that they do get along not for the sake of the Tenno nor the universe, but for the sake of Guardians, they are the outsiders here now. Now they will follow the rules of this place and adapt to it. But this will surely be interesting. An end of one saga and a start of another, a more mysterious one.
