VI
Lorelei was sitting in a pub, alone, having gone on a small vacation as she was deemed not qualified to do her duty. She constantly spaced out, was short tempered and started forgetting things. Dousing beer after beer, full of anger, not only at herself for allowing herself to be so bad and distracted, but also at those THINGS, the way the fight, the way they take every battle as if it is a game. It is insulting, she feels like they are making fun of all the Guardians. Like they are way above them, like the Guardians are nothing but cannon fodder for them, but she can't help but find truth in that. Their powers, capable of obliterating whole hordes of enemies, defying all the known damn laws. While Guardians are Para causal in nature, these things are like Gods. The thing they were fighting, that twisted being that made light work of both Fallen and them was defeated by two, while the other two were playing music. She had nightmares of that thing, it's silver form constantly standing above her, few things scare her, but she felt scared fighting that. How can you compare beings that turn battle into a playtime and Guardians who are constantly fighting for survival. Those bastards, they aren't fighting for survival, they are fighting because they want to, not because they have to. And that stupid girl, she constantly shows up whenever she dreams, all because of her she is so unfocused, started with that damn peck on the cheek. Who knows, that girl might as well be a succubus for all she cares. As she continues downing drink after drink, the pubs bartender, Amir, stares at her as he cleans the dirty cups. He is worried for her, but doesn't dare to speak up because he knows it will fall on deaf ears.
Instead he focuses on serving a new customer that just walked in, they are wearing a cloak, concealing their face and body. The voice is female and they order a cocktail and as Amir is mixing up the ingredients Lorelei decides to check all the patrons at the bar, maybe she can find a one night stand, maybe that is what she needs. As she looks around she spots a couple decent looking ones, none of them match her standards, but maybe her standards are too high. Maybe because of them she is still single, but a girl must have her standards.
???: Scanning for a guy, huh?
A female voice behind her comments.
Lorelei: Yeah, I need something to clear my head. And I think it might help.
She feels hands on her shoulder, slowly someone embraces her in a hug. Their warm breath on her neck does send shivers down her spine, their warm body pressing against hers, but she can't see who it is. The hands are feminine, so she is thinking it is probably the one that commented.
???: And here I thought I captivated you. Maybe I wasn't trying enough, or maybe I have gotten a little rusty.
Lorelei: I am sorry, but what? What the hell are you talking about?
???: Oh come on, I can't believe you have forgotten me already.
As the hands roam her form she is confused. Maybe they are drunk and have her confused for someone else. As she look better at the hand she recognizes it from somewhere but she can't put a finger on where. Where could have she seen that style of clothing that ends with a golden ring on the middle finger, black cloth going up the sleeve.
???: You hurt me a little you know that. And I even gave you a damn kiss, maybe it was for naught.
Lorelei's eyes go wide, slowly turning her head to see who is behind her, only one person gave her a kiss recently. Under the hood of the cloak, the familiar face, the face of a goddess, golden eyes and black hair. The same one that was at that bar, who wiped out an entire room full of Guardians in mere moments.
Girl: Why are you looking at me so terrified? I am not going to hurt you.
Lorelei: You.
Girl: Yeah, me, from that fateful day at the bar. It has been long hasn't it?
Lorelei: What are you doing here?
Girl: First of all, rude way to greet someone like that. And secondly, I was looking for you dum dum.
Lorelei: W-why? Are you going to kill me?
Girl: Haha, no silly, I just wanted to see you. Am I not allowed to do that?
The girls released her grip and sits back down and takes a sip of her cocktail, Lorelei takes a deep breath, cold sweat formed on her skin but then decides to sit keep on sitting and faces the girl. She gulp down an entire keg of beer to help her calm down, but it doesn't help all that much, especially with the girl staring at her in that way. Her head suspended by her hand, leaning against the counter.
Lua: Name's Lua by the way. What is your?
Lorelei: L-Lorelei.
Lua: Well nice name, I notice you have been drinking a lot, is that because of me, do you miss me?
Lorelei: Yeah I am thinking of you, I am scared of you, since that damn day you constantly show up and it gives me the creeps.
Lua: Why do I scare you? I am not scary, I haven't done anything to deserve it.
Lorelei: You haven't done anything to deserve it? Are you serious? You took out an entire room full of Guardians without breaking a sweat. And you don't think that is scary.
Lua: Ah, so I am guessing that Guardians are some kind of warriors. Well, if they are, they are weak, I hope you are not one of them.
Lorelei: Well I am.
Lua: Oh, uh, well, I guess they aren't weak, my tongue just slipped, that is all.
Lorelei: It isn't that we aren't strong, it is that YOU are ridiculous. Tell me something, was that you when you were fighting against the strange creature in the abandoned factory?
The girl takes another sip of the cocktail and then taps her chin, as if trying to remember which only makes Lorelei hate THEM more. So careless, so nonchalant at fighting, they forget the battles as if they do it all the time.
Lua: Oh, the Void Angel you mean?
Lorelei: Void Angel? Is that the strange silver thing.
Lua: Then yea, it was me. Well me and my buddies. I saw you, I was the one that had blown you a kiss.
Lorelei: I noticed. What is that thing even? And why the hell do you not take the battles seriously, that thing was strong, we didn't stand a chance against it.
Lua: Well that was, like I said, a Void Angel, a beast of the Void, once a human but through a lot of exposure turned into that. And why would we take it seriously, I mean, those guys are easy to kill.
Lorelei's jaw drops, did she just say that those Void Angels are easy to kill. Lua genuinely looks confused as to why would Lorelei think they were difficult. The very being that killed them over and over is easy to kill. This infuriates Lorelei and grabs Lua by the necklace.
Lorelei: You piss me off so damn much, don't fuck with me alright. That thing killed a horde of Fallen and constantly kicked our asses and you dare to say that they are easy to kill. God damn you piss me the fuck off, you constantly think you are better, you just insult us, make fun of us during combat, you are monsters and nothing more. Monsters in human form and you should probably return from where you came from and bring all the shit that you brough with you back.
Lua's eyes widen and she looks hurt a little. Lorelei has so much pent up and she was about to continue but was stopped when she saw that the words she spat at Lua hurt her deeply it seems. Lua's whole body slumps, her confident posture gone and now looks guilty, looking down at the floor and not directly at Lorelei.
Lua: I am sorry.
The tone at which she said that was so meek and low, it was shaky and couldn't help but make Lorelei feel bad. She releases Lua, reflecting on what she just said. Maybe she was to harsh, maybe she is just blaming all those around her. Who knows, maybe those things would have come anyway and without Lua and her kind they wouldn't be able to fight against them. Maybe they came here to help out, maybe they have genuine thoughts.
Lua: I-I guess I should go. S-sorry.
She slowly starts to get up, Lorelei is getting eaten up by the guilt as she watches Lua walks away slumped down, clearly sad. Was that the correct way to express her emotions, Lua probably didn't mean anything by that. While the words she spoke were insults of sorts, they were also an objective truth, they are weaker than them. Lua exits the pub, Lorelei quickly pays and makes a run for her. As she exits she sees Lua walking down the street and makes a run for her.
Lorelei: Lua wait!
Lua clearly hears her and slowly turns her head only to reveal the smeared makeup, guilt now eats away at Lorelei. She stops right in front of her and looks down at the floor before looking directly into Lua's golden eyes.
Lorelei: Listen, I... I am sorry that I burst out at you. I shouldn't have done that and I am sorry for what I said.
Lua: There is nothing for you to apologize. You are right, we are monster, we did insult you, we did make fun of you. Nobody likes us, who wants to be around us, we are the devils themselves, monsters as you clearly said.
Lorelei: No, you aren't monsters. You are just, different. And being different doesn't make you a monster, it is what you do that defies what you are. You can be a human and still be a monster, a monster can be a being, but that is what they are, they can be really nice. So, I'll say it again, I am sorry, ok. What I said was wrong, I was just frustrated and had a lot of built up inside of me.
Lua: So? You aren't mad at us.
Lorelei: No, after I thought about it, Those things might have come even without you being there, and then we would have probably been fucked if it weren't for you. So, I guess I should be thanking you. Let us talk over a drink, what do you say?
Lua: Really? Let us head back then to the pub.
Lorelei: No, I've got a better place in mind. Follow me.
They walk for about half an hour until they reach a good club that she often visits, she even has a VIP lounge just for her. Upon entering she is immediately recognized and freely goes to her VIP area where she orders a lot of drinks. They talk about many things, exchange knowledge and history of their separate worlds, each faced different types of struggles. Lua explained more about the Warframe's they use for battle and Lorelei about the Light and Darkness and comparing side by side, it is clear, while the powers that the Guardian wields are astonishing, the powers that a Tenno wields are godly. Lorelei learns all about the different factions and she can draw a mental parallel to her enemies, Cabal are Grineer, Vex are sentients to some sort, Corpus are like Fallen but also not, and the most fascinating faction, the Infested. A virus that is capable of turning anything into what it needs to use, metal, biological and other things, eating them up and using them to it's will. It sounds scary, a force that is so devouring that it has no end. But as drinks keep on coming the conversations go from info to personal to dancing and flirting and the rest is blank. Lorelei wakes up in her bed with a terrible hangover, not remembering what happened last night as the morning sun shines through the window. She sits up in her bed, rubbing her head, the pain from the hangover is quite strong but she feels a weight on her right side. Something is pressing against her and as she turns to look she sees Lua, naked, nestled up to her, sleeping soundly. Both of them are naked, hickies all over their body and slowly, one by one, memory from last night come flooding in. The kissing, the action, so much passion, so much pent up emotions in their bodies, coupled with the alcohol made them go wild, walked to her apartment and went wild. The room is a mess, just how wild could have they been. Lorelei can't help but feel embarrassed, she thought she would be with a guy, not a girl. But strangely, it felt nice. Lorelei looks down at the sleeping Lua, a cute sleeping face on her makes Lorelei's heart flutter. She moves a lock of hair away from Lua's face and admires the natural beauty, even sleeping she is pretty. Well, this complicated things, is it for better or worse, they will have to see.
