Something's Shifty
Sans appeared outside Alphys's house.
'I guess I just teleported. It felt weird. I'm gonna have to get used to it,' he said to himself. He went up to the door and knocked. Alphys answered.
'Sans! Where have you been for the past few weeks? You've missed quite a few training sessions and cooking lessons,' she said.
'It's a, uh, long story. But, I, the Magnificent Sans, have come to tell you I am ready to become an official member of the Royal Guard!' Sans replied.
'Wait, did you capture a human?' Alphys asked, full of hope.
'No... The reason I'm ready is because I am now the most powerful monster in the Underground!' he told her.
'What do you mean?' Alphys was confused.
'Check my stats! Go on,' Sans said. Alphys did so and froze when she read it.
'I...wha...uh...er...um...'she stuttered out.
'There you are! So, you did come to talk to Alphys. I'm guessing by her face she just read your stats,' Papyrus said, walking up to the two of them after having just teleported there.
'Yeah. So,' Sans turned to Alphys, 'can I join the Royal Guard now?'
'Well...' She didn't know what to say. Sure, he may have been extremely powerful, but he was still the precious cinnamon roll who was too innocent, too pure for this world. His power would be very useful in battle when Toriel received the seventh human soul and broke the barrier and restarted the war but he still wouldn't want to actually hurt anyone. He'd be ripped into little smiling shreds before he even thought about attacking. But how was she supposed to tell him without bringing his hopes and dreams crashing to the ground?
Luckily, Alphys didn't have to as Papyrus came to the rescue.
'Bro, I don't think you should join just yet,' he said.
'Why not?' Sans asked, sounding disappointed.
'Well, as you just got your powers you probably don't have them under control yet. I remember it took me a while. I think we should practice a bit so you get used to it,' Papyrus said.
'Oh, okay,' Sans said.
'I just need to know...how?' Alphys asked.
'Undyne injected me with DETERMINATION after I fell down. It prevented me from dying and made me really powerful,' Sans explained.
'Wait, you fell down?!' Alphys yelled.
'Yeah...' Sans said.
'But Undyne saved you?' Alphys asked.
'Well, I'm not dead so...yeah,' Sans confirmed.
'She is pretty great. I'm not surprised she was able to save you with how smart she is,' Alphys smiled.
'Just tell her you like her, already,' Papyrus said.
'What?! I-I don't like her!' Alphys growled.
'You're blushing. That's a sure sign something fishy is going on,' Papyrus said.
'SHUT UP!' Alphys yelled, slamming her house's door behind her as she stomped inside, blushing as red as a tomato.
'PAPYRUS! Did you make a pun, just then?' Sans said, noticeably annoyed.
'Yes, I did. Anyway, bro, we'd better go back to the lab. We'll have a talk with Undyne then hopefully we can go home,' Papyrus said, going to take Sans's hand.
'Can I try teleporting back myself, to practice? Please, Paps?' Sans asked.
'I guess, but be careful,' Papyrus said.
'Yes! MWEH HEH HEH!' Sans yelled. Papyrus teleported back to lab.
Sans was just about do the same when he noticed something. Alphys's house had changed. And not only that, Alphys wasn't even in the house. Toriel was there. She was wearing purple trousers and a purple vest instead of her royal clothes. But she wasn't the only person there. Asriel, a kid who lived in Snowdin and idolized Alphys, was also there, only he was wearing navy blue trousers and shirt and a bandana like Sans's only with a rainbow stripe pattern. The third and final person there made Sans's eye sockets widen. It was a human. They had rosy cheeks, shoulder length brown hair and were wearing a green hoodie, the hood pulled up. Sans felt as if he recognised the human's face from somewhere, but couldn't quite remember where from.
He shook the thought from his mind, however. He knew what he had to do. He had to capture that human. He fixed his bandana and gloves and mentally prepared himself to take the human back to Snowdin and throw every puzzle he had at them until they gave up.
When he looked up however, the human was gone.
So were Toriel and Asriel. The house was back to normal and Alphys was back, playing her piano.
It had just been another vision.
Sans sighed, disappointed, before teleporting away. However, his accuracy was off as he was preoccupied with what he'd just seen.
Back at the lab, Papyrus looked around. He couldn't see Sans anywhere.
'Bro? Sans?' Papyrus called. 'Where are you?'
Undyne came in from the True Lab.
'Oh, h-hi Papyrus,' she said. 'Did you f-find Sans?'
'Yeah but...he wanted to teleport back here himself but, apparently, he's not here,' Papyrus explained.
Suddenly a muffled thud sounded from the wall, followed by a muffled voice.
'Ow, ow, ow! That really hurt. Where am I? Brother! Papyrus!' Sans's voice yelled from inside the wall.
'Bro?' Papyrus said, going up to the wall.
'Brother! Where am I?' Sans asked.
'You're inside the wall of the lab,' Undyne said.
'I'll try teleporting out!' Sans told them.
'No, Sans, I'll get you-' Papyrus wasn't able to finish before Sans appeared in the room. Well, most of him. Half of arm was stuck in the wall. Papyrus placed a hand on his brother's shoulder and teleported back a few feet. Sans was now fully in the room.
'I really need to practice,' he said, rubbing his arm.
'Well we should head home, if it's alright with you, Undyne,' Papyrus said.
'Oh, it's fine. I was going to go now and see Toriel, anyway,' she replied.
'Okay, see ya,' Papyrus said.
'Goodbye, thanks for everything!' Sans smiled. His brother teleported them both home.
That night, Papyrus couldn't sleep. He was too worried. If Sans now had DETERMINATION that meant that, from now on, he would be able to remember resets. He would have to go through the unbearableness of reliving the same thing over and over and over. Papyrus did not want his brother to enter the empty black void of depression he, himself, had been dragged into.
And, mostly, he hoped the kid didn't do another Genocide Run.
There was no way Sans would be able to handle that.
