Nicolas took us to the window, and he pointed towards one of the numerous trees. At first I didn't see what I was supposed to see. But than it dawned on me, and a shiver went down my spine.
Behind the huge trunk of a tree was a man dressed in all black, a sniper rifle resting on his shoulder. The point of the gun was aimed at our door, waiting for one of us to come out. The figure of the man was hard to make out, he was well hidden behind the brown of the tree, but it was already scare enough.
« What the hell... »
I knew they'd be coming for us soon enough, that someone would try and off us, but this was scary because it was there, in front of my eyes. The sniper gun was so perfectly lodged on the man's shoulder, and so well aiming at the door, making it impossible for us to leave on that side of the house.
I turned towards Nicolas and tried taking a deep, comforting breath. No use. I could almost feel the sniper on the door still. He didn't seem the slighted bit happy. I could almost seen tension. He glared at me, as if he were waiting for me to embarrass myself in excuses.
« Did you see anyone in the backyard? Do we still have a chance to leave?
— Brynn's looking right now. She's scared, Av'. I mean I don't blame her... This is all because...
— I'm sorry. I didn't think they'd come so.... So soon. I was counting on a bit of time... »
Nicolas had a cold, stoic expression. I felt like he closed himself up to me and it hurt, because we'd known each other for such a long time. He looked away from me, as if I repulsed him. What was going on in his head?
His face was deformed by a rage I couldn't remember ever facing from him. His hands were balled into fists. He was mad. Mad at me.
« You put us in this hell. YOU! Maybe the others are happy to follow you and freaking go down with you, but I'm not. I would've freaking been able to have a long life! I long happy life!
— Don't put this on her Nick, she didn't do any of this. » Ted interrupted, his voice suddenly menacing « she does what she can to be there for all of us and you're being a douchebag.
— I'M THE DOUCHEBAG? SHE HAS A KILL ORDER ON HER AND SHE DECIDED IT WAS A GOOD IDEA TO TELL US AND TAKE HER DOWN WITH HER!
— Calm down. We're all on edge. This isn't the time to go crazy.
— STOP TELLING ME WHAT TO FREAKING DO!
— Nicolas... » I started, my voice trembling
It was too much. The crazy mad guy that was my friend lunged onto me, throwing me against the wall behind me. My back collided into it and intense pain took over. He threw back his arm and then threw his fist into my stomach, and I gasped in pain.
What the hell was happening to him? He really wanted to let go of his fears and stress on me?
The violence on me stopped abruptly when Ted grabbed Nick by the arms, pulling him back.
« That's enough Nick, calm down. »
Ted was restraining the mad bulldog by the arms, patiently waiting for him to calm back down. Nicolas' blood injected eyes stayed fixated on me, and I felt my heart break. If my friends started hating me, I was nothing.
I'd done all of this thinking somehow it was for the better, maybe it wasn't. It probably wasn't. Nick was right. I put them all in a bad place without thinking of the outcome and now we had to deal with it.
« She's the worst thing that happened to us, Teddy. You'll realize that soon enough » Nicolas spat, his bloodshot eyes barely wanting to look at me anymore
I'd never seen such loathing aimed towards me, especially not from my middle school best friend. I wanted to scream at him that it wasn't my fault, that I loved him and that his hate only hurt my feelings, but I wasn't a baby anymore.
Drama wasn't the same anymore.
I hate my life.
