Inside is a scene ripped out of a horror movie, causing you to scream.
You stand still in shock with a touch of fear creeping up your back as you take in the scene before you.
A hulking animatronic, taller than Sun and Moon, is ripping the Auto Assist's arms to pieces while a second set of hands (second set?!) rip out the hanging, black wires and causing sparks to fly every which way.
You find Rivera and Vanessa by the computer module, having ignored your scream, with Tina whirling around to greet you, pure relief on her face at the sight of you. She quickly steps up to your side. You notice her fingers can't sit still and her voice is shaky.
"I'm so glad you're here! We need you to calm him down."
You give her an incredulous look that screams 'huh!?'. "Me? Why me? Who even is that!" Every word tumbles pass your lips before you can stop them, pointing at the animatronic in question.
"That-uh-" Tina shifts in place, "That's Eclipse. A very old security protocol program; the merged form of Sun and Moon. I've only ever read about him but... He's unfinished and extremely unpredictable."
Your eyes dart back and forth between the chamber and the two humans at the module. The animatronic in question snarls and pounds on the glass, having finished his massacre of the Auto Assist.
You hesitantly walk up to them. "He can't break the glass, right?" you ask warily, eyeing all four of his fists smack it.
"I fuckin' hope not," Rivera replies. Vanessa huffs and shoves the man aside, seeing as his tinkering on the computer isn't doing anything to help.
"Move!" The blonde types a couple of things in before hitting the enter key.
Another controlled shock violates your ears and eyes. The room glows and flashes as Eclipse seizes. You watch in horror. This animatronic...another side of Sun...of Moon. A million different questions barrel through your mind. Why didn't they tell you about this? (Management or Sun or Moon) Why is Eclipse suddenly active? What happened to cause him to emerge? Are the celestial Daycare Attendants okay?
The light show finally stops and everything goes quiet. You tentatively step up to the glass and peer inside. You expect to see an incapacitated animatronic, and you do, but only for a moment. The curled up form of the new A.I suddenly lunges up at you, lashing out.
"YOU HURT! YOU HURT US!"
You jump back with a shriek. Rivera almost laughs in complete shock, rubbing his forehead. Vanessa growls in contempt, "How much can this damn thing take?" She curls her lip and goes to press the button again.
Black eyes stare back at you; though you can see just the smallest pinprick of golden light within. All of Eclipse' bashing against the glass stops as you two make eye contact. The rays, you notice a small extra set only just barely poking out from between the face plate, twitch as he tilts his head to the side.
You copy him, wondering just who you're looking at. Tina said they're merged? So it's just both of them, right? You can work with that. Their wires must be fried with the confused look he's giving you, though.
You open your mouth to speak, to try to get through to the obviously panicking animatronic, when you hear Vanessa as she goes to hurt your friend again.
In a split second decision, you jolt forward and grab hold of the blonde's wrist, snatching it away in the nick of time. "Wait! Stop! You're hurting him!"
The two give you incredulous looks, Rivera scoffing. "It's out of control! Look what it did! and that's just inside the damn chamber!" You glance over at his gesturing, wincing at the many scratches, marks, and debris.
You gesture back. "He's calm now, isn't he?" Noticing you talking about him, Eclipse moves closer, face plate spinning curiously. A claw tipped hand rises up and, with his pointer finer, gently scratches up and down the glass.
Tina finally approaches, feeling like it's safe enough to do so, but keeps an eye on the bot. "I think the shocks finally made him docile," she smiles at the other two.
You frown, subtly shaking your head to yourself. "He's scared. Those shocks hurt. How many did you give him?" you ask, breathless with anxiety. The thought of your friends being fried from the inside out terrifies you. You can't imagine how that would feel.
~
Laughing, finally thinking you're safe.
They can't get you in here. You're safe inside.
But it's wet and the roof, it's old, so old; rain droplets drip from it. A puddle was already formed under your feet.
But you still laugh. You chortle in victory. It's cold, no heater in a broken down building to warm the surrounding area, causing your breath to come out hot and heavy. It hits the front of the suit, the jaw.
The rain is still falling. It hits your shoulder and runs down your back.
What was it that made these so dangerous again?
Moisture.
*SNAP*
~
Your name being called startles you out of your sudden trance. Memory? Ugh. You put a hand over your pounding forehead. You stand confused for a split second before an intense pain in your ribs causes you to double over.
"Ah-!" you whine, wrapping your arms around your midsection, panting.
Eclipse panics once you leave his sight. The strange human that feels familiar, the one who caused such great relief at first sight. The one who prevented the security guard from shocking-hurting- them again.
Where did she go!? She can't leave him now! Nononononono!
He lifts all four hands and hits the glass. He stands at full height and is able to see over enough to see the human. Okay, you're still here, that's good.
But what are you doing? Why are you groaning? Your ribs? You're saying something about your ribs.
Black sclerae briefly glow while he scans where you're clutching.
~No Fractures Detected: No Swelling seen.
~Bruised Ribs-Minor Possibility: Blood Vessel Rupture, no puncture wound detected however.
~Costochondritis High Possibility: Cartilage ribs seemingly at normal levels however. Investigate further.
~Complex Regional Pain Syndrome likely culprit (76%): Also Known as Phantom Limb Pain. Possibly Missing Rib or Piece of Rib causing unknown pain.
Multiple different warnings and solutions pour into Eclipse' HUD after just a short scan. You're in pain! Immense pain! Something is wrong!
The two humans who hurt him crowd around you. No! They'll just hurt you like they did them! The General Manager places a hand on your shoulder. Her lips move but Eclipse doesn't bother to listen to or read them.
"DON'T TOUCH!" His voice booms, shocking the three into flinching and looking up. You groan and place a hand on to the chamber wall, lifting your head as well. Eclipse' amber pupils stare into yours.
The agonizing feeling of something hard clamping down on your sides and crushing your ribs begins to lessen as you focus on your breathing. "I'm-'m fine..." you breathe. Vanessa eyes you warily but then turns to skepticism as soon as you tell the two, "Open the chamber."
"Are you crazy?" Rivera shouts, gesturing to the celestial being, "That thing is unpredictable. We only just got it to calm down! Now it's looking at us like we stole its sandwich and you wanna open the door?!"
The rays on Eclipse' head turn slowly, his neck titling to the side. He growls in acknowledgement to what the man said but makes no move to look away from you. You stand back up and take a deep breath. As you walk to the module, you notice his large, abyss-like eyes follow your every move.
"I'll talk to him. I know Sun and Moon, they wouldn't hurt me." Tina speaks up, her acrylic fingernails tapping on her phone case rhythmically, visibly nerved.
"Actually. Eclipse is completely separate. Sun and Moon have very little influence on him, if any."
Oh. Yeah that makes this a bit harder. Even so, you can't stand by while someone is confused and in pain. "Open it," you tell Rivera with a hardened glance.
The mechanic does so with a shrug, mumbling something under his breath. Tina and Vanessa step back, the former with a look of admiration and anxiety while the latter has one of scrutiny hidden behind indifference and boredom.
This could be a good thing. If you can 'tame' the third side of the Sun and Moon, He could have an easier time in the long run once you're under him.
With a hiss, the glass door opens and Rivera quickly scampers off next to the other two. Eclipse immediately ducks his head and exits the chamber. You flinch once he resumes his full stature. Like Sun and Moon, he's tall. But unlike them, because of his extra set of arms, his torso is extended which makes him a little more so compared to his counterparts.
HIs voice is deep like Moons once he's calmed. He blinks. "Helped." You give him a shaky smile. His lights flicker to your chest and back. "Pain!" he exclaims like he just remembered. His large upper hands carefully grab you under your arms and lifts you up.
You squeak in surprise as he sets you down inside the chamber and on the chair. His lower set goes about gently pressing on your sides. Surprisingly, the only thing you feel from it is ticklish. He gives you a weirded out look.
"I'm okay!" You push his hands away and he lets you. "I'm more worried about you!" Eclipse frowns, lowering his arms. You're worried about him? Why? He understands the feeling he got from your entrance from before; Sun and Moon hold you in high regards and those spilled over to him...but...you don't know him.
"Worried...for me?" he asks lowly, pointing at himself with a clawed finger. You nod your head and hop off the chair. "But...Scan said..." He gestures to his eyes and then your ribs.
You frown. "Yeah. You've had a hard morning, haven't you?" You ask, changing the subject. He nods in agreement, not taking his eyes off you. Yours suddenly catch a splash of blue. Looking down, you find Moon's nightcap on the ground. You bend down and pick it up with a small smile. You really hope the boys are okay.
With a gentle pat, you dust the article off and hand it up to him. "I'm sorry this is how our first meeting went but..." Once he hesitantly takes the hat from your hand, (you die a little inside at the timid look he gave you when doing so), you keep your now empty hand up in greeting. You introduce yourself by name, "I'm the newest technician and mechanic for all of you animatronics."
Confused, Eclipse stares at your hand as he raises a set of his and places the night cap back on its rightful place. You notice the right side of his rays retract so it can fit snugly. Now that you're not in pain or panicking over his well being, you finally take in the sight before you.
He definitely is a merged form of the two boys like Tina said. But you can see so much of his own design, building off what the two already had and making it more. The yellows from Sun are now orange in shade and the blues from Moon are now a deep violet in tone. And what was usually a tan-ish white on Sun or silver on Moon, is now black, making the towering animatronic much more darker than both of the others combined.
His rays, like you noticed before, were different than Sun's. They're sharper and dark orange with little black ones poking out ever so slightly in-between the larger ones. Moon's hat is exactly the same, though, oddly enough. His claws are longer than Moon's, thicker too and his finger tips are the same black as his eyes and rays; deep and dark, like a never ending abyss.
Eclipse stares back at you.
You're so small! Your glasses are lopsided and your hair is frazzled but a smile rests upon your face. Eclipse lifts a hand and, with two fingers, fixes your glasses. You give him a grin, laughing and pushing them up after they slide down your nose a little.
Paying the other three no mind, you ask, "So what happened? Why are you out?"
That must have been the wrong thing to ask because the large bot recoils as if you burned him, assuming a crouched stance you've often seen Moon do. He's ready to bolt.
"No...put Eclipse...away!"
Your heart breaks. He doesn't want to be put away. He thinks you're going to deactivate him?
You lower your hands in a placating manner. "No! No, no- of course not! I'm not going to put you away, sweetie." You inwardly cringe at the pet name. You're not sure where it came from- it just came out. Eclipse is a highly advanced, intelligent A.I that doesn't need to be babied.
Said bot scrutinizes you, reading every detail; your facial expression, your tone of voice, the inflection of it. He relaxes his posture, seeing no signs of deceit. "Then...what does human want?"
You smile. "Well, I definitely want to make sure Sun and Moon are in working order-"
"Why?" You blink at the interruption.
"They're my friends of course," you answer easily.
"Friend...?" He tilts his head to the side. Eclipse knows that word, of course he does, but...he doesn't know how it feels to have one. "Me?" He points to himself.
Your heart breaks even more. "I'd love to be your friend, Eclipse." He's just as much a part of the other two and he deserves to have a friend just like Sun and Moon. "I can check you over, too!" You teeter on the balls of your feet, grinning up at him. "Make sure you're all okay after... all that." You grimace, gesturing at the chamber.
Eclipse follows your gaze warily before directing it towards the other three humans in the room. "It's okay! We can do it up in the daycare if it makes you more comfortable," you redirect his gaze back to you. You look over to find everyone cringing at the plan. So you walk over. "It's fine. I've done these checks with the boys there before."
Tina shifts on her feet. "It's not that...We just don't want him out for longer than we need. He's too...unstable." You don't like the way Vanessa is staring at him.
"He's just confused. It sounds like he hasn't gotten enough social time. His speech is underdeveloped for example. If he's so unfinished and we're unable to complete his code, he can learn by just being out."
"Learn?" Rivera scoffs.
"Yes," you stress. "All of these guys have adaptive and learning A.Is so I can't imagine Eclipse doesn't have one, too. Which means he can learn just like everyone else even with his unfinished code." You make sure to keep your voice leveled and wording practical. They don't need to know you believe these beings as sentient and their own person.
Tina struggles with the decision before Vanessa leans close and whispers in her ear. Whatever she said was good because the General Manager relents and nods. "Okay. He can stay out while you look him and the other two over. Let me know how it goes." She points to your watch, meets your eyes, and then turns to leave.
Rivera immediately follows but Vanessa gives you one last glance and tiny smirk before going with them. You try to ignore the shiver that runs down your back and return to Eclipse' side. You gesture your head and ask, "Ready to go back?"
He nods eagerly.
~~
"Everything...so different," the bot comments, taking in everything as the two of you enter the daycare. You hum distractedly, tapping your watch
"Okay!" You finish what you were doing and reach out to him. He curiously gives you his lower hand. You guide him over to the security desk and try to take a seat but stop when he stops following, planting his feet on the ground just behind the threshold of the ground that goes from cushioned padding to tile.
You remember Sun and Moon's code that doesn't allow them to go behind the desk. Does Eclipse have that, too? You'd be surprised if he did. They said he was security did they not?
"What's wrong?" you finally ask, seeing that he's arguing with himself.
His rays twitch. "Conflicting...codes."
"What's conflicting?"
"Sun, Moon not allowed."
"But you are, right?"
"Eclipse...not sure."
You nod. That's extremely interesting. Sun and Moon's codes are like the backbone of Eclipse'. They help him function where he can't due. Like a guide.
You wave him over with your other hand not in his grasp. "Come on then, try."
The tall bot hesitates but eventually lifts a foot. It crosses the line and he successfully enter the restricted area. Your eyes light up in glee as he actually passes through the invisible wall you know Sun and Moon have.
"I knew you could do it!" Eclipse looks down into your twinkling eyes. Oh. That feeling is coming back. The one that makes his wires heat up. Gives him the feeling of familiarity. Of joy. Makes him want to trust you.
You had looked back down towards the desk, digging through the drawers as he stared at you. When you looked back, his eyes lost their pupils. You touch his forearm. "Hey, you okay? What happened to your eyes, buddy?"
At that, he blinks once, twice and the golden pupils are back.
He smiles, his static grin feeling all the more wider. "Eclipse okay!"
You nod and reach over to grab the cord you pulled out. "Alright, well I'm going to look you over now. And while I'd rather have all of my equipment to do this, I'll have to make do with my watch for now."
You stand up and wiggle the cord at him. The bot just tilts his head and scans it.
You giggle. "I gotta plug this into you so I can check you out on my watch." You lift your wrist to show him. He has to bend down to see it.
Still a bit wary, Eclipse doesn't make any move to crouch down for you. He knows the other two trust you, he feels it, but he just isn't sure he wants someone this close to him after what happened.
Noticing his hesitation, you give him a pained smile. "Hey, if it helps, you can watch everything I do." Again, you gesture with your wrist to emphasize what you mean. "You can ask me anything, too."
You're offering to be so...open! Like Henry Emily was! Before...whenever he was out, no one would let him talk, no one would let him do anything! They wouldn't talk to him, either. Henry Emily would chat his audial receptors off for hours! So when no one talked to him since waking up here, he would say something but would be immediately shut down.
Realizing you were waiting for him, he nods and sits down on the floor for you to be able to reach. You happily step around him to plug the cord in before returning to sit on the computer chair. You take your watch and flip open a small black rubber piece, revealing an outlet for the cord. You plug it in then turn yourself so Eclipse can see your watch's screen.
You eagerly explain every little thing you do and take great joy in it. No one ever listens so intently to you once you fall into 'coder mode'. Eclipse is the perfect listener, even asking simple questions to which you happily answer.
You check over his systems, relieved to see everything is working as it should and then dig a little deeper. In the deep corner of his processes, you find an idle but still working Sun and Moon. They looked to have overloaded and shut down to protect themselves from frying.
Something serious must have happened for both of them to shut down like that. You frown, worrying for your friends but unable to do anything about it until they decide to wake up themselves. You could force a restart through Eclipse and force one of the other two to front but...
You see Eclipse' eager face, eyes darting around in wonder and you just refuse to do something so invasive to him. Even if you were really itching to see them. For now, Eclipse is okay, no lasting effects from the...Controlled Shocks and nothing wrong with Sun and Moon.
"You're all good, Eclipse!" You tell him just that. "Sun and Moon will come back when they're ready."
You unplug the cord and let him stand back up to full height. He looks around aimlessly, looking a little lost at what to do now. You're not directing him somewhere, there wasn't any security risks, so what should he do now?
You suddenly yawn loudly, quickly lifting a hand to cup over your wide open mouth. Tears prick your eyes and you blink them away to find Eclipse' tilted head close to you. You back up a step, laughing awkwardly. "What's up?" you ask, wondering why he's suddenly in your space.
"Tired?" the bot asks. You nod, rubbing a hand through your hair but regretting it immediately after when your fingers get caught on knots. You got up so fast you didn't have a chance to do anything but throw clothes on, let alone brush your hair.
"Yea, it's like...four in the morning probably," you yawn again.
"Time is five fifteen." You choke on your saliva.
"What!? Oh man," you rub your forehead, already feeling that familiar headache rear its ugly head. "I should probably get back home, try to get a few more hours of sleep in..." You look away and begin to mumble to yourself.
Eclipse bends down, arms hanging loosely as one lifts to tap your shoulder. You cease and acknowledge him. "New friend...leave?" You should really stop being surprised by these beings but...Eclipse sounded so disheartened.
You frown and rub you bicep, trying not to make eye contact with his beautiful eyes. You idly wonder if Sunny's used to look like them before fading. Feeling guilty, your fingers absentmindedly begin tugging at your frazzled hair again.
"Yeah..I got uh...doctor's appointment." You're not sure Eclipse would know what that means and he proves just that as he goes still and his eyes blip out. You've seen Sun and Moon do this so you know he's checking within his head.
He only takes a second before he's suddenly touching you everywhere, his hands gently patting you down, searching. You flinch when his pointed fingers graze your sides. He freezes and eyes you. "Injured? Said...you weren't."
Your eyebrows furrow in confusion before it hits you. "Oh! No- haha!" You grip his wrists and push them down. "I'm not injured! You just tickled my sides, that's all."
Eclipse retracts his arms and pulls them close then tilts his head. "Why...doctor?"
His concern is adorable. "I'm just getting checked up, it's not anything to worry about!" You wave him off, not wanting to delve into your issues and burden him. He's got enough on his plate. Though before you leave, you have to ask, "Hey...so besides security risks, how do you come out?"
The animatonic's eyes blink a few times. "Eclipse...don't know. Last resort." He slouches and you can only imagine he would be donning a pout right now if he could. Oh hell, you're going to design a new look for him now, too, aren't you?
Both pair of hands wring and he shifts on his feat, awaiting for you to say something. You put a finger to your chin, glancing to the floor as you think and tap your foot. "Do you have your manual?"
"No...classified." Your nose scrunches in your distaste. You could create a new condition that could bring him out but... You'll have to talk to the boys before even thinking about doing that. This affects them just as much.
With another yawn, you decide it's late enough and you really have to get home. You can think all about these things later. The tri-colored bot scans you and notes your fatigue. He likes this human, he wants you stay with him but...Moon would have his head if he didn't make sure you got sleep.
No matter how badly he wants to stay out and experience all these new emotions. So, with a regretful sigh spluttering from his voice box, a large hand comes down atop your head, giving it a pat. That's what humans do to show affection, right?
It must have worked since you let out a giggle at the action.
"I promise I'll see you soon, okay? You're really cool, Eclipse and I want to be your friend." You smile at the frozen look he gives you. He doesn't move and you picture a rotating circle as it tries to compute a command. With a laugh, you head over to the wooden doors. "Tell Sun and Moon I said hi!"
The doors shut behind you can Eclipse finally resumes. Friend. You want to be his friend? But...he's unfinished. He can't be a very good friend while being incomplete can he? He needs to find Henry Emily. Maybe you can help him?
Before one of the boys wake up, Eclipse needs to program a way for them to talk to each other within the headspace. He's been asleep for so long that this might be the last chance in a long while before he could attempt again.
He can figure this out. He will. He wants to be out from now on. You promised.
