7.

June wasn't obviously the one in trouble-I was.

She entered, then smiled at me naturally. Then noticed my enlarged eyes, then walked to me.

"Hi," "Hello," I replied, strangled. My eyes darted to the running pack of black uniforms. "You seem-" "I know. Just-" I tried to make up a lie or an excuse. My brain was frozen in being creative now. "Jesus," I got up from my seat by the window and stuffed my phone into my pocket. The police were now on the other side of the road. Thankfully, it was a wide one, but still...

"I'm sorry," I was suddenly at the glass door. "What's wrong?" Jne asked, surprised. I pointed at the SSCs approaching. I pushed out of Starbucks, and she followed me, curious. "They are trying to arrest me," I looked down at her. She looked astonished. Oops. Wrong impression. I wasn't an outlaw. Or wasn't I? "No, I mean, I don't know why-" She suddenly looked at the SSC, narrowed her eyes, then looked back at me. "DId you do-" The guy in the front raised his eyes and saw me. "Shit. Sorry, I'll explain later-"

With that, I started to run again. I looked back to see the police start running faster and with renewed vigor like a black pack of hunting dogs, with me their fresh meat. I also saw June, puzzled and staring after the SSC and me with unbeliveing eyes.

I took down the biggest and most crowded street. I knew that Jake should be uncaptured, and if not caught, shouldn't have even tried to get out of the hotel-I had actually rounded these SSC dudes up for his sake-well, it just had ended up like that. So I pulled out my phone and texted him with flying fingers, my flying legs doing their best beneath.

Err,,eek: Im oyt and getting chasedc

                  Help!2

My figers touched some wrong buttons and I cursed. I weaved through the poeple, and they to split up here and there for me. Unfortunately, that actually worked for the more official looking SSC men.

I wondered what Jake would do to get me. I quicly sent him my location, then put my phone away. This escape needed effort...

I saw some trash can up ahead, so paused breifly on my run to tilt the whole contents out. Well, according to my ears, the guys only stepped over it-they should be very desperate and eager to capture me.

I now saw a supermarket in front of me, and the parking lot. Good-the lot had a whole army of cars with varying heights and sizes. Also, it was packed almost to full.

I jumped over a low fence surrounding the whole mart and slid into the tight space between the car ends. Yup, those burly men would need some hard time.

I raced through, not daring to look behind since the path was so narrow and bumpy becasue of car parts jutting at me from the sides, that I might just smash my face into the back of a car or something.

I finally slowed down to a jog when I heard less sounds of pursuers. Maybe they had given up. But just as that thought occurred to me, I heard someone jogging from near. I looked all around, alarmed, and pulled up my speed to racing again, though my legs were starting to get tired.

I saw the first one just a few feet from me-the only thing that kept him from getting to me was my speed and the cars parked between us. But he could still get on the same path as me if he used up a few seconds squeezing between 2 cars and racing after me...

He didn't seem likely to do that.

Instead, he raised a pistol.

Now that wasn't definiety the town police I knew of in New York.

Cold sweat breaking out, I jst ran faster than my legs had ever done in my life. But I could see the end of the lot approaching-I'd be doomed when I raced out into the empty space lined with cars. They would give me no protection, and I would have to go back through the way I'd come or just meet death. My brain, heart, and legs were already tired, out of options...

Just when I was about 15 feet from the end of the narrow path between cars, a black, shiny SUV squealed across the pavement into my view, blocking the path. Shit, I screamed in my mind.

But then the door opened, and found the driver to be June. And in thebackseat was Jake.

I had no time to show and fuss over surprises. I yelped as a loud bang emitted right from acroos. I ducked and banged my head at a stupid number plate of a Jeep. I felt somehing wet start to dribble down my forehead, but ignored it and raced to the SUV.

I practically banged into the car, but Jake recovered and reached over my body to shut the door shut.

When he pushed my up into a sitting position in the back, I saw people and buildings flying past us like when I was running. June, different from my expectations, drove rough and quick. She sometimes even ignored the red light in a few small streets.

I saw my blood stained on the leather where I had put my head on, and carefully rubbed it away.

"I saw your message-I packed all the stuff necessary we had had, and left the hotel. I was gonna call you-then I saw you dart away. I called your name, and June there noticed. She offered to drive me," We stopped a the red light, and June nearly sighed. "I'm still not sure if you're good guys-I shouldnt be helping criminals, you know," "Of course. But we're definitely not bad," Jake said defensievly. "But-" "I'll tell you later," I said quickly to assure her. Jake shot me a dirty look. I shot it back. Then I started to message my legs, now dead.

"You were right. Those assholes had been after us afterall. " Jake said, shaking his head. "Sorry I didn't get to you quick-you could have been dying out onthe field in plain sight right now if we hadn't been in time-though we were barely in time," I took his apology wih a shake of my head. "No, no. Thanks for coming. Well, June, I didn't expect you. It was dangerous back there, and-" "I just wanted to help and find out what your guys' deals were," June said, then hit the pedal as soon as the green light turned on. "Anyway, where're we going?" I asked. "To my house," June replied in a monotone. "Seriously? They might have gotten the car number as we left-and it's sure to put you in danger," I said. June didn't slow down the car, but seemed to be simulataneouly in deep thought. "That's true, but I won't care," "What? I'm sorry to be like this as an adult, but you really shoud stop helping us!" I nearly yelped. Jake looked at me like a wounded pet, surprised at how his owner's voice could get so hgh. June narrowed her eyes in the front mirror. "I'm just curious, and I want to have a different day in a while. Come on, I might leave you two to your matters later if you really want," She said. I sighed, knowing that it was no point to argue with her-she was much more tougher and stubborn thatn I had thought.

We suddenly were in a small and crappy group of stores that seemed old-fassioned and nothing of famous brands. Small dirty shops with old managers. "You live here?" I asked, my voice flat. "Yup, up. The stores are crappy, but I have published close to nothing till now. Seems as If I'll upgrade one day," I suddenly felt like her close friend going over for a sleepover for the first time-and you know what? I felt 'teen' in the outside too, not adult. I could also feel that air with June, with the barrier of not having known each other gone.

She pulled up in front of a closed store and got off. "At least her car is good," Jake muttered as the door shut close. "You have brand new car, Jacob Liasson. I have an a hand-down," I muttered. "You really like her, don't you?" Jacob gave me a look that your dad gives you when you just got a brand new car or got to taste the first beer of your life. Both of which I had never done before. "Ok, shut up. I'm not sure," With that, I got out of the car and walked to where June was waiting in front of the door to the houses. Jacob followed, chuckling-I hoped June hadn't heard our tiny chat.

She led us inside the door, and we climbed a series of steep, narrow steps to reach the 3rd floor. There was only one door on it, and luckily didn't smell strongly of beer and cigarettes from the first floor. June pulled out her keys and put it in the hole. She paused, maybe wondering if as adults, she was doing the right thng, mainly to satisfy her curiousity. I hought she'd suddenly whirl around and kick us downstairs when she turned her wrist and opened the door.

Me and Jacob stepped into a house smelling strongly of peach.

The livingroom was small, but the kitchen was big. Well, there was a big wooden table in the center of it, and it would be more specific to refer it as a desk-table, since half of it was stacked with books and papers and notes, while the other half was clean except for a cup of coffee, now cold. There was her bathroom and bedroom of course, but she shut it.

June sat comfortably in her chair at the desk side of her furniture and waved at the chairs in front. "Will you please explain?" She said, especially at me. Jake shot me an even darker look then before, blaming me for  telling her that I would tell her everything we'd gone through and having known her. I shrugged back and sat down.

"Ok, here's the precaution," I said after taking a deep breathe. "You'll be surprised. And believing it is up to you," I said, then wiped my forehead of sweat- undried bood came along with it, and I frowned. "We're not residents of San fransico and do not belong to this time," I said. Jacob didn't nod or try to help me. June stared back with afraid eyes. Shoot. "I mean, we do, but... I am 25 now-but you know what? I was 18 just 2 days ago-I was living in New York and in 2035 then-which means that you were also 18 then," I pushed he words out. My brain kind of liked it-no lies and thus no stuff to filter. "Time travel and teleporting at the same time?" June asked with narrowed eyes "Exactly," Writers had creativity-and the trait was gonna be needed here to believe our insane story.

So I just pushed on and told her all about the Shack, the Window, and finally, decided to tell her our true identity.

"I'm the Eric Hunter you know about and this is Jake Liasson-got it?" I finished the story with a twist(ok, not exactly a twist, but still, she gaped at me). "Oh gosh," She said. She just stared at us. "That's the reason you were ready to cry last afternoon with the article," She said. "Yup. I miss my dad," "Me too," That was the first and last thing Jake said during my great, lengthy explanation. "So do you belive it?" I asked her doubtfully. Her brown eyes widened. "Um, Mr. Hunter, you're the proof. How can I just dismiss it?" "Don't call me that. I was a teen just 2 days ago," I said a bit bitterly. "Sorry. Errm, Eric. You really need to go back," She looked sorry for me. "No, it's not your fault. Maybe since the SSC tried to track us down after discoering who we are, Jake can research and hack into the system or something," I said. Jake suddenly got up. "Wait-listen to that," He said and walked over to a widow in the livingroom.

Me and June also got up, and saw the cars-and their darkclothed drivers.
Those bastards had caught up already as I had feared.

They were coming again for me and Jake.

Not that we were the only ones in danger this time.
