Maybe It's The Way You Say My Name

"Zahra!" Phoebe yelled from across the courtyard. She was as energetic as always and was starting to sprint towards Zahra. It took longer than it should since Phoebe was 9 and the courtyard is a big place.

"Phoebe." Zahra said as a greeting when Phoebe had made it to her. It only took a second before Phoebe started ranting about her day. Zahra was listening but not as well as she could be. She was too busy admiring Phoebe, her sparkling eyes, that big smile she gets when she's interested in something, and of course her voice. Zahra loved everything about Phoebe but it was her voice that distracted her the most. She especially loved how Phoebe pronounced her name.

"Zahra?" Phoebe said once she noticed Zahra had zoned out.

"Yes, sorry. Just thinking about something. Continue." And she did. Phoebe ranted all the way to where they were meeting Leah and she continued to do so as they sat there. Zaha listened the entire time.

Maybe It's The Way You Play Your Game

"You suck at this." Phoebe said as Zahra accidently stepped on her foot again. They were doing their weekly dance lessons. Zahra sighed and let go of Phoebe's hands not noticing how Phoebe chased her fingers.

"I'm sorry." Zahra said, trying not to lose her temper. It was rare but when she was really annoyed or confused she tended to get a little short tempered, and she was very confused. She didn't know why everytime Phoebe grabbed her waist she wanted to burst into flames. "I just."

Zahra sighed and Phoebe grabbed her hand standing in front of her with a calm smile. "It's okay. You'll get there. I struggled for a few weeks too."

"Did you?" Zahra asked, not convinced but at least now with a small smile.

"Well, no." Phoebe said, pulling Zahra closer and playfully dancing with her as she continued. "But I am the daughter of Lumière after all."

They just danced around the rest of the lesson. They didn't learn anything new which Zahra was thankful for. They just enjoyed each other's company.

But It's So Good, I've Never Known Anybody Like You

Zahra watched from afar as Phoebe borated some guy. Zahra didn't feel bad whatsoever, he brought this on himself.

She had been minding her own business and had been walking to her locker with Phoebe. They had been chatting about something random, Phoebe doing most of the talking like usual.

Zahra had opened her locker when a random paper fell out. Zahra almost didn't notice it, except for the fact that it loudly announced "Street Rat" when it hit the floor.

Zahra just stood where she had been, staring at the paper. Phoebe had been quietly bubbling over in anger. She snatched the paper from the ground and stormed off determined to find out who did this.

Zahra just stayed in the same spot until Leah found her. She was able to get Zahra to come back to reality. She then led her to the courtyard where Phoebe had been yelling as loud as she could at the guy.

Zahra felt a warm feeling in her heart as she watched. No one had ever defended her that fiercely. Leah had talked her through most of the bullying but Leah was too socially anxious to defend her and that was fine.

But this was the first time Phoebe had seen it first hand. Zahra had to hold back a smile while Ben had to hold back Phoebe from making the man cry.

But It's So Good, I've Never Dreamed Of Nobody Like You

Phoebe was exhausted. It was her birthday and her father is... eccentric. Ever since 12 am it had been festivity after festivity. Zahra had been invited to and helped with all of them. Little did she know that Phoebe had requested that but Zahra didn't need to know everything.

That meant that they were both exhausted. They were at the last party of the day. The only one their friends, well Dee had planned since her father had taken up the entire day. Phoebe had been flowing around the room and lighting it up as always.

Zahra was watching from the corner with Leah like always. She expected it to be a comfortable silence like always but Leah had other plans.

"She looks at you like that too." Leah said startling Zahra from her staring.

"Hmm." Zahra hummed, giving her a quick glance before going back to Phoebe.

"I'm serious." Leah said, turning her head completely to Zahra. "You two would be cute."

"I don't know." Zahra said in the neutral tone she would say anything in, as if this whole conversation isn't making her start to turn bright red. "I'd hold her down."

"I guarantee you wouldn't. But it's not up to me." Leah said, pushing off the wall and adding one final thing before leaving. "It's up to her."

Later in the night when Zahra was sitting on her bed with Phoebe asleep on her shoulder she ran through that conversation a hundred times. She didn't end up sleeping that night.

And I've Heard Of A Love That Come Once In A Lifetime

It had been a week since the birthday party and the conversation. Zahra was good at phishing past her emotions, but when Phoebe grabbed her waist and her hand it was slightly harder. They had been at it for 20 minutes and Zahra had been improving greatly. She hadn't stepped on Phoebe once and she is very proud of herself. She was even slightly on beat for once.

When the song finished Phoebe let go of her with a huge smile. "You did amazing."

Phoebe then pulled Zahra into a tight hug. Zahra had a smile on her face as she buried her face in Phoebe's shoulder. The hug lasted longer than it should since neither of them wanted to let go. After a few more minutes they finally pulled apart.

"Is there anything you can't do?" Phoebe asked with a huge smile and that same sparkle in her eye.

"Ask you out." Zahra muttered quietly to herself. She assumed Phoebe couldn't hear her but after a second of silence Zahra looked up and saw Phoebe looking at her with a confused smile.

"Ask me out?" Phoebe asked amused. "You know we've basically been going out for 2 years."

"What?" Zahra asked. "I feel like I'd know if we were going out."

"I mean. We go out alone, just us two all the time, you're my known plus one for all events, anytime I can I fall asleep on you, and I pull you considerably closer the necessary when we hug. We just don't kiss." Phoebe explained casually with a shrug. "Wanna start doing that too?"

They didn't do much talking after that.

And I'm Pretty Sure You Are That Love Of Mine
