Chapter Five
If there was anything Jennie Ruby Jane really excelled at, it was being above average at everything.
It's not easy being normal when you're Jennie Ruby Jane.
But regardless of how magical she looked while running the mile, or how perfect her dumpling cheeks puffed as she huffed for air, Taehyung couldn't possibly wrap his mind around the idea of becoming friends with her.
He just thought she wasn't someone he'd just be friends with.
"Look Taehyung, we all get how much you have the hots for the new girl, but could you stop being creepy watching her run?" Kai folded his script book in a roll, whacking him on the forehead with it.
Goofily smiling, Jimin snickered, trying to take a peek from the windows in search of -said girl.
Pushing Jimin off of him, Taehyung smirked. "Yeah, like you weren't all over her during first period."
"Ooooooh. Burn." Jimin instigated, covering his mouth as he emphasized the gravity of the situation. "Is she even hot? Where is she? Which one is she?" He frantically moved his head around for a better look.
"Look. Let's just practice our lines and call it a day. Taehyung has to pick her up after class." Kai clenched his jaw, adjusting his collar and without diverting his attention from Taehyung and Jimin watching Jennie on the track and field.
"Oh what? You're already friends?" Jimin's face brightened up, brown eyes sparkling. "Can you introduce me?"
Taking the rolled up script book, whacking Taehyung for the second time, Jimin afterwards.
"Ow!" Rubbing his dyed, orange-red hair, Jimin scrunched his face into a frown. "Kai, you've already won the girl, why can't you let Taehyung win this girl this time?" Jimin pointed at Jennie through the window, his finger against the glass.
"Shut it." Taehyung snapped, grabbing his backpack off the ground. "Just leave Jennie out of it, she's definitely not like ..."
"Yeah, yeah.. yeah, Taehyung's right. But where are you going?" Kai tapped Taehyung's shoulder as he walked past, causing him to walk backwards toward the doorway.
"I've got a date." Taehyung flashed a smile, waving his fingers towards the Jimin-Kai duo.
With his departure, Jimin began to pack his things away as Kai leaned onto a desk beside the window, glancing over Jennie quietly.
"I don't get the competition between you two." Jimin piped up, shaking his head as he put his things neatly in his backpack.
"You got the girl, you got captain of the varsity basketball team, and you even got the lead role of the spring play."
"I know," he says quietly. "But if it's one thing we agree on?" Kai watches Jennie's silhouette as she walks for the locker rooms. "Is that she is different."
