Chapter 12

 Kye's POV:

"Watch where you're running brats!" Castian growled under his breath, obviously pissed at the group of teenagers who carelessly dashed across the road without looking out for traffic. Thankfully he had stepped on the break on time else a new article will be on the newspaper already or maybe on social media first. "Tch. Don't they know the proper road safety rules?"

"Calm down Castian, at least no one was hurt. They were up to no good after all so I doubt they even bothered about road safety." I mean you don't go dashing across the street with monkey face masks stuck to the side of your head, even worse, those monkeys were horribly disfigured. I swear my eyes died for a moment.

Despite my words, strings of grumbles still left Castian's lips. Oh wells. I'll let him let off some steam until we reach the company. Bending down slightly, I retrieved my folders which had flew down the seat and onto the car's floor before continuing studying the progresses of the various teams.

Let's see, the shopping mall under Desmond is almost complete with just a few more finishing touches which should be completed by the end of the month, status of past site visits are on task without problem. Great. The idea on the large scale amusement park under Tasha is soon to be finalized, hopefully she had arranged for her team to meet with the client. I'll remember to ask her later.

For the resort under Xander...half-way in progress and the final site inspection will be next month. I'll have to arrange tickets for them to travel down to... Hawaii. For the museum under Celine- "Young Master, your phone is vibrating." Castian informed, looking away from the road briefly before turning his eyes back onto the road.

"Ah yes. Thanks." Placing the folders down onto the leather seat beside me, I dug into my briefcase to find Xander's name on the screen. I wonder what's wrong... "Hello?"

"Oh morning Boss. I'll have to take an emergency leave today, sorry about that." He shot quickly, making me wonder what had happened.

"What's the matter?"

"The nanny fell sick yesterday and took today off. But Matthew caught the bug from her so he's running a fever so I won't be back until tomorrow." He said hurriedly in a frantic tone. Ah... I see...

"Oh... take care then."

"Thanks. Have a good day boss, bye." Wasting no time at all, he ended the call almost instantly.

"What's the matter, Young Master?" Castian asked curiously once the call ended.

"Xander's son caught a cold so he won't be able to come to work." I sighed slightly. Wait. Why did I even sigh for? Must be from the lack of sleep last night.

"You don't look so happy about that huh." He casually commented as I stared at my reflection in the window. Unhappy? I look more like a bulldog.

"I'm just tired, didn't get much sleep last night." I waved him off with my casual reply but he doesn't seem to buy it when he gave me the bored look.

"You sure that's all, Young Master?"

"Maybe a little worried..." I answered honestly. As if satisfied with my answer, he nodded quietly before focusing on the road. I wonder if it's weird that i'm worried about Xander...no right? After all, we're friends...right? Wait... is it only me that thinks of him as a close friend? What if the whole time he only thinks of me as his boss? Urghhh this is so complicated.

"Young Master, we've reached. I'll come by later as usual." He announced upon reaching the office's main doors. Sigh... I wish I was Santa Claus, that way I'll only have to work once a year...

As all office workers feel upon stepping through the office doors... welcome to hell. Let the long boring day begin.

~ Time Skip ~

Finally done. Capping my pen back and putting it back to its original place with a loud sigh, I stretched my limbs out, groaning slightly when my bones made cracking sounds, stiff from being in the same position for 8 whole hours. Just nice, 6pm. Castian should be arriving soon. Pressing on the intercom, the secretary came in almost immediately as I handed him the documents which I've looked through and signed. "Please help me give them out tomorrow."

"Yes, Mr Morrison. Thank you for your hardwork." He bowed slightly before leaving promptly. Packing my place up neatly, I left for the lobby after bidding goodbye to those in the marketing department to see Castian waiting for me. As timely as always.

"How was work, Young Master?" Castian asked with a mocking grin on his face. How I wish to wipe that grin off his face.

"As fun as always of course." I put on the sweetest and sickest smile I can master for him before rolling my eyes and getting into the car. "Wake me up once we reach home." I informed before dozing off against the window. Man, I'm exhausted.

Third Person's POV:

"W-Why are we here?" Kye yelled in alarm when he found himself standing in front of Xander's door. Castian had apparently carried the sleeping Kye all the way to Xander's doorstep in hope to give him a surprise. He had texted Xander beforehand for his address.

"House visiting, Young Master. Can't you see?" Castian said in a straightforward manner making Kye sweat-drop at that obvious answer.

"But w-why?" Kye asked in disbelief as bosses don't visit their employees just because they took leave.

"But why not?" Rolling his eyes at Kye's panicky attitude, Castian pressed repeatedly on Xander's doorbell, the door opening to reveal a haggard looking Xander and a crying child in his arms.

"Oh hey, Kye and... Castian, right?" He greeted in a slightly surprised manner before locking the door for them to enter.

"Yup. We've come to check if you needed help. Young Master was worried sick the whole day that he can't even eat or function properly. The whole time his mind was only wondering if you're alright. I swear he almost tried to go MIA for work if it wasn't for the number of important meetings he had just now." Castian exaggerated dramatically, earning a worried look from Xander and an unreserved glare from Kye and the wtf-is-wrong-with-you look.

"I wasn't-" Kye argued back but stopped immediately, deciding not to make a scene in Xander's house. "How's Matthew?"

"Cranky and feverish." Xander sighed, almost at his wits end. Matthew had been crying non-stop the whole day despite Xander trying to console him in all ways possible.

"Has he been fed?" Castian asked calmly as Xander nodded, saying that Matthew has been fed less than 15 minutes ago. "I'll bring him to sleep then if you don't mind. I have a thing with kids, especially since I've been taking care of Young Master since he was young." Castian voiced up, volunteering his secret techniques.

A grateful look dawned on Xander's face as he thanked Castian for his help. After leading Castian to his room, Xander lay Matthew down in his crib before leaving his room quietly and back to the living room where Kye sat before sitting down beside him exhaustedly.

"Tired?" Kye asked softly as he watched Xander struggling to keep his eyes open. It was then he wondered if he had even taken his meals today if he was fully occupied.

"Quite." Xander answered truthfully before letting out a long yawn as if on cue. Gently, Kye placed one of the cushions on his lap before making Xander lie his head on his lap much to Xander's surprise. "W-What-"

"Rest." Kye ordered in a firm manner, placing his hand on Xander's head to prevent him from escaping. Feeling his resolve, Xander finally gave in and relaxed under Kye's hand. A smile formed on Kye's face as Xander's eyelids finally fluttered close from exhaustion, his whole body going limp within seconds.

Kye took his time to savour the moment as he watched Xander's sleeping face while looked vulnerable and childlike. Xander's breaths were even and calming, the expression on his face no longer stressed but relaxed. His eyelids fluttered, but he seemed too out of it to notice. This made Kye chuckle at the mini scene before him as he tenderly stroked Xander's soft hair, unknowingly enjoying the touch.

"He's asleep?" Castian asked as he came out of the room, successful in putting Matthew to sleep. Receiving a nod and a soft smile from Kye, Castian grabbed the bag of groceries which he had brought up to Xander's house before borrowing the kitchen to fix dinner for the three of them.

The savory smell of fried chicken and egg soon filled the air, waking Xander up from his nap as Castian set the food. "You cooked?" Xander asked in a daze as he was still half-asleep.

"Sorry for using your kitchen." Castian apologized as he scooped the rice into the bowls.

"No worries. As long as you don't blow my house up, all's good. What did you make? Smells good." Xander joked lightheartedly, earning a chuckle from Castian.

"Chicken cutlet and egg bowl with miso soup. Let's eat." Castian announced, setting Xander's and Kye's bowl side by side before placing his opposite of Kye's. Xander wasted no time at all in standing up, couldn't wait to dig in while Kye on the other hand remained seated on the sofa unmovingly.

"What's wrong?" Xander asked as Kye's face turned beet red from his question. Scrutinizing him from top to toe, he eventually realized that Kye's legs were numb was whenever he tried moving them, he instantly freezes before relaxing after a few seconds. A chuckle left his lips at Kye's adorableness before picking him up bridal style and bringing him to the dining table despite Kye's fussing of wanting to be put down much to his own embarrassment of being treated like a princess.

"It's good." Xander gasped in shock at the burst of flavour from the simple rice dish as he stared at Castian amazed. He never knew that home-cooked food could taste that good. The fried chicken cutlet is perfectly fried to it optimum tenderness, it's meat remaining juicy and fresh despite it appearance. The rice was neither over nor under-cooked, instead fluffy and just of the nice softness. He wanted to know how Castain did it.

"Thanks. Do you cook? I saw quite a lot of ingredients in the fridge." Castian casually commented as an embarrassed look formed on Xander's face as he scratched the back of his head awkwardly.

"Oh about that... you can say that I'm learning? I can't raise Matthew on takeaways after all but my cooking skills still sucks." Xander chuckled hesitantly but his eyes widened in glee when Castian offered to teach him the basics.

"By the way, where's your wife? I don't see her around." Castian asked as nonchalantly as possible, causing Kye's spoon to drop from his hand and into his bowl with a loud 'clank', much to his surprise at how direct Castian was being.

"Castian!" He hissed with slight panic, couldn't believe how insensitive his butler was behaving.

"It's fine, Kye." Xander reassured as he place a firm hand on Kye's shoulder, as if asking him to calm down. "I'm not married."

"Then your son?"

"Ah I picked Matthew up when he was only a few days old. It was a rainy night, an extremely heavy one to be exact. At first I wanted to walk home straight but my mind asked me to take a detour and that I did. It was when I passed by the park, Matthew cries notified me of his presence. At first I thought I was hearing things but the cries just got louder and louder so I followed it and it led me to the dumpster.

There I found him turning blue from the cold and lack of air. It was horrible. He was trapped in a grocery bag with a dead-knot and thrown haphazardly near where the dump-truck usually parks. So if no one noticed and the dumptruck does its daily patrol, Matthew would have been driven over and squashed. So I hurriedly carried him to the nearest hospital where the nurses quickly attended to him after hearing the story.

According to them, he couldn't be more than a week old. At first they insisted for him to be taken care in the hospital for a month to stabilize his condition or in case his parents came for him but no one came so I adopted him and yea... thus the sudden long leave." A tear rolled down Xander's face as he recalled the traumatizing scene. Wiping his tear away, he put on a genuine bright smile as he faced a teary Kye and dumbstruck Castian.

"I'm done... thanks for the food." Kye announced softly, picking his bowls and bringing it to the kitchen sink to wash. There he stood with his back facing the other two as tears fell from his face like an endless stream, unable to hold his tears back any longer. He was so glad that Matthew was so lucky enough to be rescued by someone like Xander. Not only Xander took care of Matthew like his own son but also showered him with endless love and care.

Hearing his sobs, Castian sighed softly as Xander stared at him with confuse and worry, wondering if he had done something wrong to upset Kye. "Don't worry. Young Master is just emotional and touched. Do you know, he's adopted too?"

This made Xander's eyes shoot wide open in shock, not believing his ears but soon calmed down when he thought back on how Kye looked nothing like his father. "Young Master was adopted by Master when he was 4. Master and Mistress were on a vacation in Korea where Young Master ran into them on the streets.

According to them, he was dressed in rags and malnourished so they did a background check and found that his parents had been killed in a mass shooting. When they brought him back, he didn't know how to talk or even read and write. He avoided everyone, even Master and Mistress. It took him a full 3 years to finally open up to us and to become a troublemaker but nonetheless, a joy to the family.

And now, he's here. I've taken pretty good care of him I must say, counting all the times I stood up for him when he caused trouble." Castian self-praised himself jokingly, earning a smack to the shoulder as Kye walked towards him, shaking his head of being exposed off his embarrassing secrets. Kye didn't mind if others knew he was adopted as he know that he'll always be treated as part of the family no matter what.

"That's why I'm very glad and relieved that Matthew was lucky enough to get adopted by you, knowing that you'll take good care of him and be his family." Kye explained as Xander watched him silently with understanding in his eyes. "Thank you, Xander." Kye thanked him sincerely from the bottom of his heart, earning a soft smile from the older male.

Seeing the tension ease, Castian sighed in relief as he watched the two love birds smiling at each other in their little world. It was then he finally asked the burning question on his mind "Okay so when's the wedding?"
