Virgil pressed the off button on the tv remote, then putting it down with a sigh. There wasn't anything interesting on and his son surely didn't care since he was already occupied, had been ever since Virgil got home from work an hour ago.

His son, Patton, was sat on the couch with his phone, tapping away. He was wearing his beloved cat hoodie that Logan had given him years ago. Patton wore it constantly, almost as much as Virgil himself wore his favorite hoodie.

Patton grinned, ducking his head to hide it before beginning to type a response. If Virgil was not mistaken his son was flustered too.

"Hey, Pat, who are you texting with?" He asked, too curious not to ask. Patton looked up with the expression of someone who had forgotten he was not alone in the room and, yeah, he was definitely blushing.

"Oh, um. Just this guy in some of my classes. We have theatre together too." Patton said, avoiding looking right at him. Virgil raised a brow at his son. Patton was very friendly, he had easily made a lot of friends in his classes, but the way he was acting right now made Virgil feel like this person was not just one of his friends.

"Just this guy?" He asked, very interested in hearing all about this guy that had his son smiling so much, but not wanting to be that annoying and intrusive parent who made his kid feel like they weren't entitled to privacy. Luckily for him Patton had never been very shy to share what he was thinking or feeling.

"His name is Roman. He's really cool and funny and we started talking a while ago because of a project we had to do together for history class, and he's really nice." Patton rambled, smile widening. Whoever this kid was Virgil was glad to see that he was making his son seem so happy.

"Do you have a crush on this guy?" Virgil dared ask, not sure what answer he hoped for. On one hand, he was excited that Patton might have his first crush, but on the other hand… oh god what if some douche broke his son's heart, he would have to deck that kid.

"No," Patton said with a scoff, then looking down at his phone again, not saying anything for a few seconds before continuing, "...maybe."

Then Patton was quiet for a while again and Virgil got the feeling that his son wanted to say something and he shouldn't say anything until Patton did.

"How do you know if you like someone?" Patton asked, voice having gone a little more quiet and Virgil figured that it was something Patton had been thinking about. Oh no, Virgil had to think of something wise to say real quick. He was never really prepared for these moments where he should be explaining or teaching his son something. Logan was usually the best choice, but maybe not when it came to this topic.

Damn, why did being a parent mean he had to have answers?

"Oh, well… it depends I suppose. I knew I liked your dad when spending time with him was what I looked forward to the most, even if it was just sitting together doing homework. And it always made me so flustered when he would smile at me, the first time he held my hand I almost started to laugh just because I was so nervous. Glad I'm not that awkward any longer. Also I even found everything he said interesting and you know everything he rambles about really isn't interesting." Virgil said with a grin.

"Hey! I will have you know I am very interesting, at all times." Came Logan's voice from the other room and both Virgil and Patton laughed at that.

"Of course you are, love." Virgil called back before turning his attention back to Patton.

"It can be hard to know if you have feelings for someone. It took me, like, years before I realized I was in love with your father. But to make it a bit easier, just take some time to think about how he makes you feel. Would you want to go out with him, or kiss him? Do you like the thought of doing all those mushy relationship things with him? It was when I realized I wanted those things with Logan I couldn't deny I was in love with him any longer, so that might help." Virgil rambled, wondering if what he was saying was helpful at all.

He might have been married to Logan for almost fifteen years, but he still did not know how to give advice about romance.

"That is helpful actually. He did call me cute today, after theatre practice, and I didn't dislike that." Patton said with the look of someone who was trying not to outwardly show exactly how happy that made him, but failing.

"Hey, why do you never call me cute?" Virgil called out to Logan who was walking past the doorway again. He paused and looked at Virgil, lowering the cup of coffee that he had just been about to take a sip from.

"What?"

"Nothing." Virgil said and waved Logan off. His husband gave him a confused look and continued on his way.

"Pat, it's alright if you're not sure what you feel, alright? Try not to stress about it, you'll figure it out eventually." Virgil said and his son nodded. Then returning his focus to his phone when he got a new notification.

"Oh, he wants to skype!" Patton exclaimed and jumped up from his seat. He looked back at Virgil as if to make sure it was okay that he left and Virgil nodded.

"Oh, um, it's fine if you talk to dad about this. I'm sure he's heard it all through the wall anyway." Patton said and continued towards his room hastily and Virgil thought thank god, because he really needed to freak out a little to someone about how his tiny baby was growing up so fast and already having crushes.

"Yes, I did hear all that." Logan said, walking into the room with his cup of coffee still in his hand and the newspaper under his arm. He pulled Patton in and kissed him on the head before allowing him to leave, and then when they heard Patton running up the stairs Virgil held his hands out for his husband to help him up from the couch.

"He's growing up so fast! Whyyy..." Virgil said with a pout, watching how Logan put down his stuff on the coffee table before pulling him up. His husband smiled, squeezing his hands reassuringly.

"I know, it is absolutely terrifying. But you did a good job talking to him. And this Roman guy, well, he seems like a nice boy." Logan said and Virgil scoffed.

“Yeah, he better be.” He said, so seriously that Logan let out a small chuckle. He kissed Virgil's forehead, letting go of his hands and picking his cup of coffee up again.

"Would you like to help me make dinner?" He then said and Virgil frowned, putting his arms around his husband's neck, leaning in to quickly but softly kiss him.

"Or, we cuddle and then have ice cream for dinner." He suggested, smiling and wiggling his eyebrows to try and convince him. Logan looked unimpressed with his attempt.

"Absolutely not, we are responsible adults with a teenage son to set a good example for." He said and Virgil resisted the temptation to roll his eyes.

Responsible adults, ha ha ha.

"You're no fun." He said with a whiny tone, for sure showing off how adult he was.

"We can cuddle after dinner though." Logan added and Virgil thought it over for a moment.

"Acceptable." He said, allowing Logan to lead him into the kitchen. Cooking was not something Virgil enjoyed too much, he always felt like he did things wrong and he didn’t always know the correct way to use spices. It was all very anxiety inducing. But with Logan it could be a little fun sometimes, he supposed.

"Do you think Patton will be bringing his, uh, friend over some day?" Virgil couldn't help but to ask, actually wondering more what he was supposed to do, how do parents do these things? How were parents supposed to react when their kid started showing interest in dating and such? Virgil had no idea.

"No idea but, most likely, yes. Could you help me by getting these ingredients from the fridge?" Logan handed Virgil his phone which had a recipe pulled up and he did as he was told.

He really wished this kid that Patton seemed to like so much was nice. If not he's kick his ass, he didn't care who it was, no one will ever hurt his son and get away with it.
