TWENTY-SEVEN

"Wow, you look stunning, Hinata." Neji grinned once she stepped out the front door and joined Neji on the sidewalk, "imagine what Naruto could say if he saw you now."

"Please don't say his name..." Hinata said suddenly.

"Oh... Sorry." Neji looked at her sadly, but gave her a slight smile, "come on."

He grabbed her arm and pulled her down the sidewalk until they got to the fence and Neji stopped. Hinata looked around, confused, "uh, where are we going?"

"Our prom." Neji smirked.

Hinata rose a brow, "It's the backyard."

"I know that. I dropped out of high school, that doesn't mean I don't kno--"

"Neji, what are you doing?"

"Well..." Neji chuckled, "we put a little something together for you."

Hinata rose a brow, "'we'?"

"Of course." Neji shrugged as he led her through the gate leading into their backyard. Hinata gasped when there were lights strung from the branches overhead. She saw a table covered in a white tablecloth set for two.

"This is the most romantic setting I've ever seen..." Hinata beamed.

"You like it?" Neji grinned, "I decorated it myself."

"Yeah right." Hinata rolled her eyes.

"Okay, I had some help." Neji chuckled, "but this was all his idea."

"Whose?"

"Mine."

Hinata's eyes filled with tears as the love of her life walked out, wearing a suit, "oh my gosh... How did... I thought... You're in Germany! You left!"

"And leave you? Of course not."

She ran into Naruto's arms and hugged him tight. She turned around and faced Neji, tears running down her face, "thank you so much..."

"Hey, it wasn't me. You should thank Sasuke's brother."

"Itachi..." Hinata shut her eyes, "but... How..."

"Before he was arrested, he gave an envelope to Sasuke. In it was a million dollars. The same money Hidan had gotten from the dealers for Hinata. He really didn't pay his way out of jail. He escaped. Sasuke brought the money to Sakura, who told him to put something together for her, even though he was about to splurge it all on her." Neji chuckled, "they got a hold of Naruto and here he is."

Hinata turned back to Naruto, who only laughed, "hey, why are you crying? We're finally together again."

She wiped her eyes and shook her head, "these are tears of happiness. I just can't believe you're standing right here."

"Well, are you guys gonna eat, or is the catering we paid for gonna be all mine?" Neji started walking off.

"He's right." Naruto gestured over to the table, where he led her and they quickly sat down.

"So what actually happened? How did you get here? You still never told me why you did what you did..."

"Slow down." Naruto chuckled, "well, I wanted to get arrested so that I could look into Hidan more and somehow find evidence against him. I found that in his private cell. That slip of paper I gave Sasuke was enough evidence to get me out."

"What about Itachi?"

"He was released too. But he decided to stay in Germany and make a living there. He didn't want Sasuke to pay for his plane ticket home, he's earning that money himself. He let Sasuke keep the money." Naruto chuckled, "so here I am."

Hinata smiled as she reached across the table and held his hand. It was still as warm as it always was, and it still had that comforting feeling he always gave her, "I can't believe how much Itachi and Obito have done for us. To go so far to betray Hidan like that."

"Not a lot of people in the world like him, it's not surprising. Some guys in juvy had a lot against him, too." Naruto smirked, "he sure knows how to leave a bad impression."

"Oh yeah." Hinata giggled. They sat and listened to the music that suddenly came up. It was calm, until it got more upbeat, "where's this music come from? Should I tell Neji to turn it off?"

"No way! This is my favorite!" Naruto laughed, "come on, Hinata."

She started to panic, "wh-what? No, no, I'm not a good--"

"It's okay, I can't dance either." Naruto laughed as he grabbed her hands and pulled her out into the open grassy area of the backyard. She laughed at how happy he looked, dancing with her. Not even just waltzing, but freestyle too.

She kicked her shoes off and grabbed Naruto's arm, "you should at least try some real dancing."

"Oh?" Naruto smirked, "where'd this sudden confidence come from?"

"Here." Hinata lifted her arm and placed his left hand on her waist, then she rested her arm on his shoulder, "you ever tried ballroom dancing?"

"Never."

"Me neither." She smiled, making them both laugh as they tripped over each other's feet to the upbeat acoustic music.

Naruto tried to dip her, but he overestimated the strength of his arms as she pulled him to down with her. The two laid in the grass and stared up at the clear night sky, never realizing how dark it had gotten.

"You know..." Naruto started, "this is much better than prom at school, don't you think?"

"Uh-huh." She smiled happily, then let out a loud yawn.

"Haha, you tired?"

"I'm sorry, I really haven't been getting a lot of sleep in..." Hinata sighed, "ever since your lockup."

"Yeah..." Naruto sighed, "When I was in Germany..." he continued, "I would look out the small windows at the sky, thinking to myself... That even though we're miles apart... We're still under the same sky, and you can still see the same stars and constellations." He paused and laughed at himself, "I really am crazy, aren't I? To be thinking about you all the time?"

"I do too." Hinata smiled as she turned to face him, "I think about how far we've come together. How I got to where I am now, and what I've been doing with my life. I've made so many stupid mistakes that left permanent scars..." She rose her arm in the air and stared at the bar code permanently tattooed to her wrist, "but I know that I can keep moving on in life knowing that you'll be right here with me. Forever."

Naruto turned to look at her, "that's the nicest thing I've ever heard you say, Hinata. Remember how you used to hate me at one point?"

"That was all Hidan's tricks, I swear." Hinata's eyebrow wrinkled with concern.

"I'm just messing with you." Naruto laughed as he shifted closer to her so he was holding her in his arms, "you know you're adorably fun to mess with."

"I don't know if that should make me honored or annoyed..." Hinata smirked.

"Twist it however you want, you're still mine." Naruto leaned his head on her shoulder.

The two laid in silence, letting the calm music and the clear midnight sky envelope them. They had nothing to worry about. Hinata still remembered the incident with Mr. Hatake and Sasori and them, but it didn't matter. Naruto was back with her, and he's here to stay. She couldn't ask for anything else. She thought that for once, maybe, just once, even her story could have a happy ending. She didn't have to die as the star of a sex tape, forever rejected and harassed because of it. She didn't have to live in the shadows and take anti-depressants. She could finally live happily and start a family as a normal girl with the love of her life. Now that's more than she could ever want.
