Chapter 4 Something Special
Marinette smiled as the last hopeless character left because she had enough of them.
She saw the straw had refilled itself and spun it into silver thread. In the mornings, she awakened to restocked straw. In the afternoons, she made the straw into a stylish silver thread.
Soon the dungeon was almost filled to the top with silver, shiny thread.
She had not any idea what to do with all the threads. She only knew how to make them.
The goblin shook his head. He felt it useless to tell her his feelings.
How could he? She was not like him.
"Anything the matter?"
"Why do you make the straw into a thread so much?"
Marinette shrugged her shoulders. It never dawned on she
should I have a reason for the action?
She supposed it was to keep from going bored or to keep herself so occupied she would not notice when someone came after her.
"Lady, the king does not want silver thread."
"Well, too bad because that is all I know how to make from this straw."
"I know because that is all you do daily silly stuff."
"Well, what else do you suggest I do?"
"Why did you chase all your suitors?"
"I did not desire any of them. I could see they were all selfish snobs, every last lot of them."
"Damsel, it is no wonder you can not find a mate." I spat out.
"What is that supposed to mean?"
"I mean with such pickiness how do you expect to marry?"
"Who said anything about marriage?"
His eyes widen at her words. He never considered the possibility she did not wish to marry.
"You wish to remain single."
"Yes, I suppose."
The goblin looked at her as if she had grown wings or grown mad.
He shook his head. She was tough to crack.
Here he was thinking she was something special. How could he have been so wrong? Why did he think she could possibly cure him?
Marinette went back to the wheel. She finished another batch of the blasted thread.
She tossed some up into the air. Immediately it turned into gold thread.
She did the same with the rest. The same thing happened it all became gold thread.
She had a feeling it was not what the king requested. What would become of her?
The king's message came.
"Turn the gold over to me or I shall ruin you."
Marienette blinked her eyes.
"The king's threats all have no effect on me. As for the gold, I have made lots of golden thread. The finest in the kingdom."
The messenger frowned but took it with him.
He slammed the door.
The goblin pulled her away from the door. He hid her behind a pile of unused saddles.
"Are you trying to get yourself killed or worse?"
"Straw thread is hardly gold."
"I know, but what else was I supposed to do?"
He put his hand over her mom because he heard someone coming. Marinette did not bite him though she considered it. She did not want whoever it was to see her.
Who was this person?
