Chapter 2 Impossible

"Ugh, the task is impossible."  Marinette blurt out.  She looked in the goblin's direction as if he held the answers.

"Do not look at me, deary." The goblin answered.

Marinette groaned.  "I don't even know how to use a spinning wheel in the first place.  It is ridiculous to expect me to make straw into gold and precious jewels."

"Does the king already have enough of those items in his palace?"

The goblin growled at her once more.

"You think you have problems, girl?"

"Let me tell you, I was not always this bad looking."

Marinette smiled, "You do  not look bad to me."

"You are too kind, girl.    I wasn't born a  goblin.  I was kidnapped, brought here, and turned into this hideous thing because I refused to help the prince find a proper suitor for him."

      "Oh, that is dreadful."

Marinette's expression turned to pity for her roommate.   Now she knew his background; she felt it only fair to share hers.

She mentioned she was an orphan recently adopted by a farmer and his wife.

"Okay, we both have our fair share of problems, but I still can't help you."

Marinette went over to the spinning wheel and sat in the seat where she tried to spin some straw into gold, but all that happened was it turned into some silky thread.

The thread was not gold at all; it was like a silver color.

      Marinette sobbed.

"Hey, Miss, I am here to help you."

Marinette looked up to see who it was and gasped.

A fairy, but how will this help?

   "I am your fairy godmother."

"I can make your deepest dreams come true."

"What is it you desire, Marinette?"

Marinette could not believe it.   Wow, it was like something out of a fairy tale.

"I can not make gold out of straw."

"Gold out of straw, why would you want to do so?"

   "The king ordered it."

"Hmm, I see. It sounds like he is a wicked king. I would not do as he says."

"What will become of me if I do not please him?"

"The reward for this is his son's hand in marriage."

"Girl, you do not need a man that comes with such baggage."

"I tell you what I will make you irresistible to every man who enters that door over there.  In time, you will find your true love."

"I will let you return to the farm life if all else fails."

Marinette looks at her roommate. She discovers he is sleeping.

"I suppose it would not hurt, but  I would remain a prisoner here."

She shakes her head. The idea sounds crazy.

"What kind of fairy godmother are you?"

"Making me think you care and you plan to let me remain trapped here?"

   The fairy leaves. Marinette scoffs.

She knows the task is impossible.  Great, now she is stuck here for life.
