02.
JACKSON had woken his sister and called her down to the breakfast car. She showered and changed into something different before exiting her room and entering the dining cart. Issac was looking warily at Jackson as he spread jam on his toast with a knife.
Lilith sat next to the boy and followed her brother. The two siblings spread their jam in sync and bit into it. Elsa who had just walked in stared at them.
"What?" They asked.
"Nothing, it's just... never mind," Elsa said, "So what are your strengths?"
"I can throw quite far and I'm good with a knife," Issac replied. His father was a butcher and he had often helped around.
"What about you Lilith?" Elsa asked.
"Knife throwing. Hand-to-hand combat," Lilith shrugged stabbing a piece of fruit with her fork.
"Ok then," Elsa gulped.
The train went into a tunnel, came out and the Capitol was shown in all of its glory. Lilith stared at it.
They went into another tunnel before coming out onto a platform. People were screaming their names and Lilith, while she enjoyed the attention, felt sick.
The train slowed to a stop and the tributes were escorted to a room. Looking around Lilith could see the other tributes from different districts. Lilith was ushered into a room and two women immediately came up to her and started getting her ready for the tribute parade.
They waxed and groomed her like a dog.
"The district 5 tribute is quite beautiful this year don't you think Roxie?" One said.
"I know right. Banz must be having a field day with the boy." Roxie replied.
"Do you think she'll win?" The first one asked combing through Lilith's dark hair.
"I don't know Iggy. I'm not a fortune teller," Roxie snapped.
"Sorry, but I wanted to know your opinion on her," Iggy said bashfully.
"Can you stop talking about me like I'm not here?" Lilith snapped.
"Sorry. I'm Roxie and that's Iggy." Roxie said.
"Lilith Viper."
"Oh, your Jackson's sister. He's quite handsome," Iggy giggled. Lilith stayed quiet as they injected her with two different liquids.
"What are those?" She questioned.
"They're to stop hair growth and periods," Roxie informed.
"Oh."
The two women finished and turned Lilith's chair around to face the mirror. She blinked rapidly as the two giggled, "Leto's coming now. We'll see you soon." Iggy said.
She waited for a few minutes as the door opened and a woman with bright red hair walked in. She wasn't as extravagant as the other people from the Capitol only wearing a simple purple dress with purple eyeliner.
"Hi, Lilith. I'm Leto, your designer." She smiled warmly and Lilith felt herself warm up to the woman.
"Hi." Lilith smiled lightly.
"So you're from district 5 so I decided not to be like the other designers and do something simple but extravagant and bold."
"Ok, what do you have in mind."
"I have the designs and stuff down and the outfit already made. It's just to make sure it fits and do any alterations. Do you like red?" Leto explained as she brought in a rack with a bag on it. Lilith nodded at her question, "Go try it on," she handed the bag to Lilith.
"How does it feel? How do you feel? Is it too tight? I thought it might be too tight," Leto rambled as Lilith stepped out of the dressing room. She was wearing a blood-red jacket and pants and the jacket had a low cut.
"Leto it's fine. I love it. And I feel powerful, strong." Lilith said putting on black studded heels. Leto had called Iggy and Roxie back in and they applied rhinestones onto the outfit and under her eyes.
"Good that's what I was going for. We're late come on," Leto said ushering her out and into a large courtyard, "When the lights go down don't panic." Leto said before rushing off leaving Lilith confused. In front of her black horses stood tall with black chariots hooked to their harness. Tributes stood around talking waiting for the parade to start.
"You look amazing, little sister," Jackson said.
"I know, Jacky," she said hugging him.
"You know I hate that nickname," Jackson grumbled.
"Too bad."
"You should go near the horses until we start. I'll see you later," Jackson kissed her forehead and Lilith started walking to the district 5 chariot. She laid her hand softly on one of the horses and petted it gently.
"They do like the attention don't they," A voice said startling her slightly, she turned around to be met with a golden-haired boy.
"Sorry I didn't mean to startle you. Finnick Odair," Finnick held his hand out to her.
"Lilith Viper," she replied shaking it. She remembered him. He had one the games a few years ago at the young age of 14.
An announcement went off and the tributes loaded into the chariots. "I'll see you soon Lilith Viper," Finnick said sauntering off to the chariot at the front. Issac and Lilith boarded as the district chariots at the front started. As her chariot pulled off Lilith wondered what Leto meant earlier.
The chariot pulled into the arena, "District 5," was announced and screams echoed off the walls. The lights went down and people gasped. Lilith looked down at herself to see her and Issac's matching outfits were glowing red.
The crowd gasped once again and focused on them. They circled around to President Snow and he looked at Lilith with something she couldn't decipher. The president of Panem began his speech and Lilith tuned him out looking around and examining the other tributes.
The chariots took off again and pulled back into the courtyard. Lilith stepped out and her brother hugged her tightly. She chatted with Leto, Jackson and Issac until Jackson interrupted.
"Looks like you have an admirer, little sister," He said nodding in another direction. Lilith turned to see Finnick staring at her. She smiled lightly at him and he returned it before walking off.
"What's up with you and fish-boy," Jackson smirked. Issac and Leto had walked off already.
"Nothing. I met him earlier. He was sweet. Now can we go I'm hungry and tired?" Jackson threw an arm around his sister's shoulders and entered the elevator to take them up to their floor.
Pressing the 5 Jackson looked at his sister, "Tomorrow's the first day of training. After that just before you go into the games we're gonna get your teeth sharpened like mine, maybe it'll give you a fighting chance."
"Will it hurt?"
"Like hell," Jackson affirmed stalking out the elevator and into their apartment. Lilith shook her head at him and went to find a room.
