Chapter 25: Moment Ruined
Chapter 25: Moment Ruined
*Jade’s POV*
Considering I’ve just been slammed behind my back, I kinda lost my appetite. I mean, can they honestly think those things about me? No, no, Leiton. Now not the time to feel sorry for yourself. Now’s the time to plan. After maybe an hour of pacing, trying to expel their words from my mind, and focus, I gave in. I’ve let it all out. I asked Jarvis to make my room sound proof and I let loose. I’ve screamed, torn stuff apart, broken things. I released the hell inside of me and completely destroyed my room. I started out pulling my hair, then when I started worrying that I’d actually pull it out, I bumped into the table, and it a vase broke. At the sound, I sadly found ease.
After that, broke every picture, every glass thing in the room. Except the TV. I made sure to steer clear of that. Oh, and I won’t even tell you how much bad luck I’ve required by breaking mirrors, but at this rate I never really had “good luck.” When everything that I could break by throwing it against the wall or floor, I picked up one of the glass shards and ripped into the chairs and couch in my room. Then when my right hand started bleeding, I switched to my left and ripped apart the comforter and curtains. So, all in all, you could say I was pissed and that their comment may or may not have brought up some bad memories. I just couldn’t keep all of this anger in me anymore. This took me about 3 hours. Now I’m sitting on my slightly blood stained bed using some of the shredded sheets the wrap my bleeding hands and willing myself to simply breathe and not cry. I’ve done plenty of that today. When I finish wrapping my left hand, I take one last deep breath to fully calm down.
Now, I just need to think… Well, Banner said I reminded him of a teenager… And they all agreed I had my head up my ass… then there’s Rogers… He thinks I’m some arrogant birch that can’t get her shit together… I’m not gonna lie, I do have my moments, but everyone does. They just think they’re perfect because they’ve saved people and were deemed “super heroes.” Well if they think I’m some arrogant teenage bitch who can’t pull her head out of her ass and get shit done, then fine. I’ll show them just that. Now I didn’t have the most normal teenage girl life, you know the shopping and fangirling, yeah, no, it was more like assassinating, but hey, I’m sure I can figure it out. The plan begins to form in my head and I go over supplies I’ll need. Most of it is at my apartment, so first things first, how do I get out of here without being noticed?
“Might I suggest your rocket boots, Miss?” Jarvis says. Damn… I completely forgot about him… And I thought out loud again. Now I actually don’t mind it, yeah it’s annoying, but when I start thinking my plans out loud, that’s where I draw the line. But we’ll get to that later.
“Uh, Jarvis, how much did you hear?” I ask the air.
“Only that you wish to leave undetected… And to be quite frank, I don’t blame you. Especially after that episode you had.”
“What? And for the record, they caused said episode.”
“Mr. Stark and the rest of the Avengers were in no place to say those things about you, Ms. Leiton-”
“Jade.” I correct.
“My apologies, Jade. What they said was below even Mr. Stark’s occasional comment. So if you wish to leave, I suggest you use the rocket boots that are currently on your feet. I will also neglect to tell the Avengers and Mr. Parker that you have left.”
“Just the Avengers. If Peter asks where I am, just tell him I went to my apartment to get some things.”
“Of course Miss.” Jarvis agrees without a second thought.
“Oh, and J?” I say walking to a window, using my nickname.
“Yes, Jade?”
“Is there any way you could get my mask. I don’t need Jay Jonah Jamerson getting my face.”
“I was hoping you’d remember.” Then suddenly a panel on the wall next to me opens up and out pops my black mask. I smile as I take it off its pedestal and put it on. As the panel closes again, the widow I’m in front of me opens. The window is practically as tall as the room, so wind rushes in and blows around some of the debris I caused. I grab the window frame to balance myself.
“Safe flight Miss.” Jarvis says.
“Aw, Jarvis, you sound like you’ll never see me again. Don’t worry I’ll be back soon.” I say as I glance back at the clock on the back wall. 10:27. Okay, I should shoot for being back around 11. Without another thought to stop me, I turn and fall out of the building. At first I nose dive with the air rushing around me, and then I turn and I activate my boots. I fly straight up for a moment and then I turn around “Stark Tower.” I smirk as I look back to the giant A plastered to the side of the building, rather than the previous “Stark.” Minutes later, I’m on the roof of my building. After kicking in the roof’s entrance, I take off my mask in case I run into anyone *cough* Collin *cough* and jump down the stairs to my floor. When I straighten, I quick my head to the side at the sight of a solid oak door back on its hinges. I approach my door warily, because, well it wasn’t like that when I left. Did Iron Buns actually fix it? Cause I didn’t exactly “come quietly.” After examining the door I place my palm on the door. I don’t know what I was expecting, maybe an electric shock, but not… well nothing. After a few more palm slaps, I try the knob. For some reason my mind thought it would be open, but as anyone with common sense (not me apparently) would have guessed it’s locked. I jerk it a couple times just to make sure before turning away and letting out an aggravated sigh, which blows a few strands of hair out of my face. I consider kicking it in, but, I don’t want to. I mean how would I explain it to the land lord? How am I going to explain what happened to the land lord? God, I can’t believe I’ve had 20 gunman on me before and I’m having more anxiety about getting kicked out. Alright, just think… I could pick it. I did do it like 2 weeks ago anyway… But that was when I had my actual lock pick with me. I run a hand through my hair as I as I think of a way to get into my apartment. That’s when it hits me. Bobby pins. I search my hair for a moment and when I come up empty, I move to my pockets. Again nothing. I put my hands on my hips and pace as I think of something else. Wait, my bra!! I pull on the collar of my tank top and look down. There on the left cup are several bobby pins. Sometimes I really love being a girl. I take one, yank off the rubber ends and walk back to my door. I shove it into the lock and wiggle it around. I end up squatting so I can at least try and see what I’m doing. I feel like the door unlock, but rather than hear a click of some sort, I hear a ding. I quirk my head again and peer quizzically at the door knob until I hear elevator doors open and what sounds like sucking, maybe licking? I turn around still squatting and low and behold, it’s Collin with some skank, practically eating each other’s faces, in the elevator. Of course they’d fix it as soon as I’m leaving. I stand and turn back to the door preparing for the usual routine of me trying to ignore them and Collin drunk out of his mind and trying to get me to have a threesome, but the realize I was trying to avoid him.
I open the door, but right as I’m about to step inside, Collin shouts, “Jade!” He leaves his, uh, date? And rushes over to me. I quickly throw my mask inside and turn to him. Surprisingly, he smells like pine needles and mint rather than booze, like he normally does during these encounters.
“He, look Collin, I’m kinda in a rush and-” I start but before I can finish he pulls me into a hug. I don’t know how to react until he starts talking.
“Oh God, Jade. Please tell me you’re okay.” He says, with genuine concern in his voice.
“What?” Is all I manage to say as I meekly wrap my arms around Collin.
“I heard you playing earlier and then it all stopped I figured had just stopped playing, but 15 minutes later, I saw Thor flying outside. I waited maybe 30 minutes before checking what was going on. I opened my door and saw you’re kicked in and your kitchen was a mess!” Collin says holding me tighter.
“The bastards.” I quietly mumble, referring to Rogers and Barton saying nothing too bad was done.
“What?”
“Oh, nothing, just thank you. What did you do after that?” I ask while pulling away and looking up at Collin.
“Called the cops. I thought something was wrong.”
“You call the cops?!” Oh, crap, this isn’t good, I’m done. I thought I was before, but now I am utterly and thoroughly finis-
“Of course I did, Jade! I thought you were dead!” Collin interrupted my train of thought. “This organization SHIELD showed up. They said they’d take care of everything and that I should go out and try to forget about all of this.”
“Did they fix my door?” I ask. If it was SHIELD then that means they probably took care of everything else. I mean they cleaned up Manhattan in one day. I’d hope they could clean my apartment in one hour.
“Oh okay, well, thanks, Collin.” I say, although I feel like that was a minuscule response. After a couple seconds his… friend? clears her throat.
“Yeah, hold on…” Collin trails at the girl’s name.
“Sharkisha.” The girl says in a really nasally Jersey voice. Sharkisha? Really, the name of some white chick.
“I know right.” Collin says. Damn, I must’ve said that out loud.
“You wanna go bitch?” Sharkisha says to me while removing her hoop earrings so big, I could fist them. I look her up and down and although she towers over me in her 6 inch heels I simply smirk and say, “Right.” as I know I could easily take her without coming close to breaking a sweat. I look back to Collin who still stands in front of me and looks down with curious eyes.
“Are you okay?” He finally speaks up.
“Define okay.” I say with a sigh.
“Jade, really.” Collin says grabbing my shoulders. I put my hands over Collins and say, “I’m fine, I promise. I just have some stuff to work out, but it’s nothing I can’t handle.” He still looks unconvinced. “You really were worried?” I ask. He moves his arms to his sides and looks down at his feet before giving a small nod. I step closer to him and try to look at his face. When I meet his eyes, I smile and give him a hug. I always secretly enjoyed my banter with Collin. Even when he’d come out in just his underwear to get the paper gave me a chuckle in the morning. Now that I’ve seen this side of him, I can appreciate his friendship even more. As he wraps his arms around me, Sharkisha pipes up.
“I swear bitch if you don’t get off my man, I will cut you.” Not even giving her a glance, I pull away from Collin I say, “Sure you will.” Partly to thank Collin and partly to piss off Sharkisha more, I stand on my tip toes and pull Collin down slightly, remember I’m 5’ 3” and he’s like 6’ 1”, and give him a quick kiss on the cheek. His scruff felt weird enough on top of my head the scratchiness against my lips is even stranger. I mean, what can I say? I like a clean shave.
“Oh, now you’re asking for it.” Sharkisha squeaks while throwing her earrings on the floor. She’s about to pounce on me, but Collin steps in front of her.
“Night Jade.” Collin says while pushing Sharkisha back.
“You’re lucky he’s here bitch. Or else you woulda been dead.” Sharkisha says over Collins shoulder.
“Yeah, yeah, I’ve heard it hundreds of times before, honey.” I say while turning back to my slightly a gaped door. And that’s probably accurate, cause let’s face it, that’s not the first times someone’s wanted me dead. As I push my door open I hear Sharkisha giggle and a low discomforted grunt from Collin. I look back expecting him to be back to face munching, but he actually looks like he’s pushing the fake bitch away. I lean in the doorway and watch the two with an amused look myself. Collin meets my eyes and I raise my eyebrows mouthing ‘What are you doing? You could totally hit that.’ He rolls his eyes and then grabs Sharkisha, I feel like I drop an IQ point every time I simply think they name, by her shoulder sand firmly pulls her back.
“Look, maybe some other time.” Collin says while turning her towards the elevator and giving her a pat on the back that suggested a “Well you tried, champ” mood.
She scoffs and says, “Whatever.” In that stupid accent of hers as she clacks to the elevator. She pushes the button and as she waits, fixes her hair, lipstick and boobs in the reflection of the doors. When she enters the elevator and turns Sharkisha gives an eye roll to Collin as if saying ‘Your loss’ and she’s gone. Thank the lord Collin gives an exasperated sigh and turns towards his door.
“You didn’t want her anyway.” I say before he closes the door.
“What?” He says turning back towards me.
“I’m sure you could’ve handled that,” I start gesturing to the elevator, “But she was a B cup at most. You would have been disappointed when she took off that mega push-up bra.” I say lifting my hands up on the ‘push-up’ part, using my own breasts as an example.
Collin smirks and points to my chest while saying, “And those aren’t pushed up?”
“Moment ruined. You ruined it.” I say with a smile of my own while closing my door. I hear Collin laughing and then the small bang of his door closing. When I see my mask lying on the floor I remember why I’m actually here and begin collecting things I’ll need. I grab my black backpack and begin tossing things inside.

Okay, I think that’s it. I put on my black leather jacket and mask while I walk out to my fire escape. I look back to make sure my door is locked, close the window and them take off. I fly back with my backpack, to the same window I left from. It’s still open which probably means no one knows I left. I land in my room and try to be quiet. Hopefully no one, including Peter, comes to check on me for the rest of the night. I look to the clock and see it’s 11:24 p.m. Oh, well, I tried to be quick.
“I see you’ve returned, Jade.” Jarvis says.
“I told you I would.” I say as I dump my backpack onto the bed. I also turn on the light and see the mess I mad earlier has been cleaned. I assume Jarvis did rather than worry about it too much.
“Did anyone check on me?” I ask as I take off my jacket and mask.
“I’m happy to say no one did.”
“Sweet.” I say as I pour the contents of my bag out onto the sheets. I decide to set the few regular clothes I packed in the closet, along with the several pairs sneakers I have as well. As for what I’m wearing tomorrow, I put in the bathroom. I suppose I should get some rest, so I change into a pair of sweats and kick off my shoes before falling on the bed.
***
Beep… Beeeep… Beeeeeeeep… “Okay fine!” I shout while I spring out of bed and attempt to slap my alarm clock off. When my hand smacks against the side table I remember I’m not at home. Beeeeeeppp… Beeeeeeepppp… “Okay Jarvis! I’m up!” I scream again.
The beeping ceases as Jarvis replies, “Good morning Jade. I trust you slept well.”
“Sleeping was fine, it was the wakeup call that sucked.” I drone as I push the covers off myself and trudge to the bathroom.
“You said you wanted to be woken up early. I hope 5:30 a.m. suffices.”
“Is anyone else up yet?” I ask as I begin to strip.
“Not that I can see.”
“Perfect. Would you mind telling me when everyone is awake and on the 83rd floor?”
“Of course not.” Jarvis replies. After a few minutes of silence, and me changing, Jarvis speaks up again. “If you don’t mind me asking, Jade, what exactly are you doing?” He asks with a slightly sarcastic tone. I think I’m starting to like this a.i. “And I you.” Jarvis says.
“I guess that came out of my cakehole, huh?” I ask Jarvis.
“Indeed, it did come out of your ‘cakehole’. Now plans for the day Miss?”
“Well, you heard ‘em. They think I’m some birchy teenage screw up. I’ll show them exactly that.” I say looking at myself in the mirror now that I’m dressed.
“Oh, good. I was hoping you didn’t usually dress like that.” Jarvis says. I give a small chuckle as I adjust my shirt.
“No, J. Some old tights and a band t-shirt go a long way though, don’t they?”
“You’ve displayed that quite obviously.” Jarvis says as I unzip my toiletries bag out in the sink.
“If you don’t mind me prying. How does an outfit exactly seek revenge?”
“Well,” I start, picking out most of the black makeup I brought, “that’s one of the benefits of being a master assassin. You see, half the time it’s just acting or being under cover. So the look is, well, just for shits and giggles, it’s how I act and what I say is what will surprise them.” I finish as I pin my bangs back.
“Well then I can’t wait for the show.” Jarvis says. After that comment, I remain in silence for the rest of the morning as I get ready. Once I’m done putting on my dark, black, punk, emo, goth, whatever you want to call it makeup, I brush my hair and give it kind of a messy look. When I feel done with my appearance I walk out of the bathroom and across the room to the closet. I set out another outfit because there’s no chance in hell I’m staying like this the rest of the day. That’s when I notice the full mirror. I walk in front of it and burst out laughing. This is so not a look for me, but those who can make it work, are worthy of my envy. As I clear my throat to stop my laughter I really take a good look at myself. I’m wearing my boots, old fishnet tights with several large rips in them a Fall Out Boy t-shirt from when I first came to America, so it’s a tad small for me, and I have dark black eye makeup on. Oh and let’s not forget the black highlights I have now. Really the only color I have are my blue eyes and the “Fall Out Boy” in another shade of blue on the shirt. I’ve seen several kids at the book store like this, so that’s where the look was inspired from, but as to how I act… I’ll just wing it.
A/N: Heeeeyyyy guyyysssss... Okay so, I want to apologize that I didn't update in a few days *cough* 11 *cough* Sorry had a little something in my throat... Uh, yeah well here's the sitch, soooo I went snowboarding the other day for the first time... And well it turns out the people I went with decided to start me on a medium trail and yeah, I kinda fell... a lot... and also ran into a fence... So that's a thing. Yeah, turns out when you do all that a week after getting out of a brace, you agrivate all the nerves in the wrist you fractured and have to wear the brace again... *Clears throat awkwardly* BUT I PROMISE THIS WON'T BE AN ISSUE FOR LONG I essentially just need to take it easy for a while and all will be square again
Okay, well now that I'm done shamefully explaining myself, I would like to talk about the chapter!! I know most of you were hoping for the big reveal of what Jade is gonna do to the Avengers after they completly butchered her, but that'll just have to wait!! I hope you guys don't mind a scene with Collin, but I like the character and will most likely find a part for him in the story. He's kinda been the person who kept Jade grounded when Peter didn't. Plus I feel like he's given some comedic relief and I hope you guys get that he really is like a Tony Stark, or Johnny Storm or one of those playboys and that Jade can and does get along with guys like that. So, we'll see what the future holds with that...
Oh and I decided to add Collin to the cast. Hence the picture. Yes, the one, the only Theo James!! Okay, it's not that big of an announcment, calm down, Maddie. I hope everyone's okay with that, I mean if you're not, then you need your eyes checked...
Okay, well I'll talk to you all next time! And I promise I should have my brace back off in no more than a week or so. Which means the next update will most likely be in a week which is normal for me anyway. Love you all!!!!
