Chapter 20: Round Two
Chapter 20: Round Two
*Jade’s POV*
I swing my door open prepared to yell at Collin for making noise, but end up starring at 7 people I never expected to talk to again. We all stand there completely baffled for a few seconds but then I mentally slap myself and come to my senses. I slam the door and lock it. Like that’ll do anything. I mentally criticize myself as I sprint to my room. I open my closet and get my gear. Considering they’re probably breaking down my door, I throw my mask on and slip my arm bands on as quickly as I can. In this chest, I not only have my Viper gear, but also medicines, more poison and quite a few guns as well as other various weapons. I hear a bang as I assume someone kicks the door. I grab a utility belt of sorts that has different kinds of poisons and medicines. There’s also several pouches for gun magazines and an empty pocket in the front where I spill my metal claws in. I grab 3 guns, two placed in the belts holsters and me using the other one. I slam the chest shut and kick it in the wall. Don’t need them finding that. I hear another bang and also some wood chipping. I run back out to the entry way just in time to see Black Widow kicking my door open and off the hinges.
“Oh, come on! Do you know how hard that’s gonna be to fix?!” I shout as they all step in.
“Well, sweetheart, if you come quietly, I just might fix it for you.” Iron Man says, stepping forward. As he does I take a step back and say,
“Relax, Iron Buns, I’m sure I can manage.” I look around the group and see Widow, Hawkeye, and Iron Man all prepared to attack while Spangles and Thor are tense. Peter-Spider Man steps closer to me and I’m hesitant to meet him.
“Jade, we don’t want to hurt you.” He says as he places a hand on my shoulder. I look at his mask through my own and say,
“It’s not you I don’t trust Peter.” I then look to the rest of the heroes standing in my apartment. I see Banner in the back breathing deeply. “You better not wreck my apartment, big guy.” I say looking towards him as he stands behind Thor and Iron Man. Thor steps forward and says,
“I mean you no harm, Lady Viper.”
“Aw, thanks T’Horéal, but I wasn’t talking about you. I was talking about Big Bad Bruce over there.” I say while gesturing to Banner with the hand that’s holding my gun.
“Enough Leiton, are you coming by force or not?” Spangles asks, stepping closer. I step away from Peter and slowly walk away from the group. Everyone tightens their fists, bowstrings, cocks their guns, sets their phasers and even Spidey is prepared to give me a webbing jacket. I look at them all as I reach a window and say,
“Touch and or break anything and I will inject you with so much poison your kidneys will melt.” As some give me a confused look, others keep their stern ones. I let you decide who is who. I shoot at one of the windows to weaken it and then jump out of it. My boots fire up and when I look back I see a shield coming at me. I kick it out of my path and watch it fall to the ground. Like to see him magically have that appear again. When I look back up, I see Widow standing in the window still pointing two guns at me. I do several flips in the air to dodge her bullets as I send my own towards her. When I’m upright again I see I hit my targets of her right shoulder and left thigh. I wanted to get rid of her better shooting arm, but also cause Widow to need medical help. But like I told Patches, I only kill when necessary. I’m about 7 yards away from the building and when I look back I see Cap carrying Widow away from the window. Damnit! She’s gonna get the floors all bloody! Too distracted by the bleeding Black Widow, I end up with webbing covering my right hand and gun. I flick my wrist which causes an arrow to fall into my hand and cut the sticky substance. As I free myself, Spider Man comes swinging out of my apartment and grabs me by my waist. He swings me to the side of the building where he holds me and says,
“Jade, please, don’t fight us. We want to help you, I want to help you.” I look at him and although I can’t see his face and he can’t see mine, we still know what each other are thinking and feeling. And I know that what I’m thinking about doing is making him sad, and disappointed. I put the gun in between my belt the small of my back and whisper,
“I’m so sorry.” Before he can react, I bring my fist up to come in contact with Peter’s temple. He let’s go of me in his disoriented state and I fall for a slight moment as my boots fire up again. Spidey hangs onto the wall and I put on one of my claws. I fly up to him, grab his wrist, and fly us up to the roof. As I’m doing this, Iron Man comes flying out of the window.
“Alright, kid, this is taking too long.” I hear him say as I land on the roof with Peter.
“Jade… Don’t…” Peter mumbles as I lay him down. I don’t say anything in fear that I might start crying. I can’t keep doing this with him around, so I give his arm a small cut. He hisses in pain and I lay his head down gently as he slowly becomes unconscious. I stand back up and prepare to jump off the roof, but am met with a red and gold flying figure.
“Enough playing around Leiton.” He says as he aims his palm at me. I step up onto the ledge so I’m at eye level with him.
“Who says I’m playing Metal Head?” With that, I do a jump kick with the help of my boots and send Stark back several yards. When he straightens up he shoots his phasers at me. I flip off the building to dodge the blast and free fall. He flies after me. I spin and send two arrows at him, then launch my boots on. I fly up to him and see his suit sparking and glitching, because my arrows met their marks of one caught in between his face plate and the rest of the helmet and the other arrow lodged in the glass that holds the arc reactor. Stark tries to bring his hands up to blast me but I grab his left wrist and begin pulling him.
“Just come with us Viper.” He says through static. I pull him so we’re in front of the window to the vacant room on my floor. Using my boots to propel us in a circle, I say through gritted teeth,
“Why, so you can take me back to SHIELD and lock me up again?” Feeling the momentum will be enough to launch him through the window; I grab the arrow in his face plate with my free hand and shove it in the side of his knee. This cause the suits flaps to equip and stop all repulsors. I did go over the scamatics for his suit. I let go and watch Iron Man crash through the window and tumble into a heap on the floor.
“I’m sure Pete’s already told you I don’t like confinement and although you people might not want to lock me up, doubtful, I’m sure Patches has other plans.” I continue, hovering in front of the broken window. I fly back to my broken window. I’ll have to say that “Viper” broke it in her fight with the Avengers when people ask. It’s not a lie… I peak around the brick wall and look inside. Spangles is taking are of Red in my kitchen. Really? Aw man now it’s gonna smell like blood, and I eat there! I look again and see the shrunken jolly green giant examining everything. Other than the closet panel, there’s nothing abnormal and unless he has some SHIELD or Stark crap that can look through walls, then he’s got nothing. Well, I do have some hollowed out books and stuff like that, but they’d have to go through almost all my books to find them. And that would take a looooong time. Big Birds bringing a pot of water over to Widow and Cap, I’m assuming to clean her wounds. Ugh… they went through my stuff. I look back in my apartment, someone’s missing. Spidey’s on the roof, Iron Buns is across the hall, Spangles, Red, and Big Bird are in the kitchen and Banner is wondering. 1,2,3,4,5,6…7…Where’s number 7?! Thor I believe, you know very large man, long beautiful blond hair, flowing red cape, wields a hammer known as Mjölnir, happens to be God of Thunder! Ring a bell?! And then, I hear bells. Actually it’s more like a ringing noise. And I think I’m falling. No I’m actually falling! The buildings rush around me and wind is blowing all around me. I turn so I can see the ground. I try to access power to my boots, but nothing seems to be working. Shit, shit, shit! The ground is really close now!! I cross my arms over my face like it’ll protect me, even though I know it won’t. Waiting, for the impact that never comes I feel myself flying again instead. Did my boots start working again? Why am I not a Viper pancake?! My vision is black so I’m completely in the dark as to what’s happening. I hear a low chuckle and then,
“My apologies, Lady Viper. You were not coming with us, and the Spider nor did Iron Man seem to convince you so I took matters into my own hands. With help from Doctor Banner.”
“Literally.” I mumble as my arms search the area around me. I feel Thor’s arm around me, clutching me to his body.
“And for future reference,” He continues, “I would never let such a fair maiden become a ‘Viper pancake’.” I sigh as I realize he’s referring to what I thought I said in my mind. Obviously not.
“Why can’t I see?” I ask as my feet touch something solid.
“It appears SHIELD’s knock out serum, or as the ones known as FitzSimmons call it ‘Night-Night’ isn’t having the desired affect.” Thor answers. He slowly places me on the ground, I’m assuming.
“Knock out… Wait, were you planning on knocking me out while I was flying?!” I shout to the air. I really hope I’m facing the general direction of where Thor is. He chuckles again and says,
“I assure you I would have been able to catch you.” I sigh and roll my eyes, but realize he can’t see my face. Slowly standing up, the “Night-Night” made me kind of achy, like I just trained for the first time in months, I say,
“Alright, Mr. Red Cape, when is this supposed to wear off?” I feel one hand on my left arm and another on my waist as Thor helps me stand and steady me.
“I’m unsure. It seems the affects are not working. Perhaps I did not provide the correct dosage, or-”
“No, I’m immune to many medicines or injections of sorts. The ingredients probably don’t work on me.” I say simply as I get my bearings. Thank God… or Thor… that Thor is the one who did this. If it was anyone else I’m sure they would have hit me upside the head by now to actually knock me out. I hold onto Thor’s arm as I hear something. I listen closer and it’s a man’s voice.
“Thor where’s Viper?” I think it says. Guess it’s true what they say. When you lose one sense another is enhanced. It’s been like two minutes though, how even? My thoughts are interrupted by Thor saying,
“It’s okay, I have her. We’re on the roof with Spider Man.” We stand in silence for a few seconds until he speaks again. “You said you were immune, I do not understand, I thought Earth medications applied to all Midgardians?”
“Oh they do, just not on me.” I answer him. I imagine he’s giving me a baffled look and then remembers I can’t see because he pauses before saying,
“I still do not underst-”
“You know what,” I cut him off, “I’ll explain later and seeing as I’m blind and on the roof of a 16 story building I can promise you, I won’t be escaping.” He laughs again as I hear many sets of footsteps come towards us.
“Why are you holding her? I thought she was supposed to be passed out.” Barton, I think, says.
“The serum did not affect her fully, but her vision is disabled and she is in pain.” Thor answers.
“No kidding.” I grumble as Thor helps me walk.
“It didn’t work? I knew we shouldn’t have trusted those lab monkeys. Did they give us the wrong stuff?” Widow says. I know it’s her because it was a female’s voice.
“No, I’m sure they gave you the right stuff. It just didn’t work on me.” I say. I hear someone walk past us and pick up Peter, I think. I feel bad about that, but I couldn’t bash up his teammates and fight him. I hear another male voice start,
“How-wha-”
“We’ll work everything out later. Let’s just get her back to the tower.” Stark cuts off whoever was talking. I can tell it was him because his voice was still a little staticy. I then hear metal clanking. At first I think its Iron Buns, but then recognize it as handcuffs. How could I forget the noise? But, really, again with the handcuffs?
“C’mon guys, I’m blind and can barely stand. Plus I might be harder to handle when I can’t move my arms.” I say with a tone of slight annoyance.
“Okay.” Big Bird says. The clanking stops and I’m assuming he’s put the handcuffs away. Still holding onto Thor for support, I say,
“You said tower. As in the one a couple blocks down, giant A on the side, perhaps?”
“The exact one.” Stark says with a less static filled voice.
“What no cell, I get to stay in a luxury bedroom?” I mock. Seriously, who keeps a criminal in the heroes living quarters?
“Trust us it wasn’t our idea.” Widow says.
“Patches making another execute decision?” I ask. I swear I can feel her death glare burning holes through me.
“So how am I getting to said tower?” I ask.
“We were planning on me or Spider Man taking you back, but you kinda botched that plan.” Metal Head says. I smile and say,
“See, I didn’t even know your plan.” Thor’s only got a hand on my back now seeing as I’m standing up straight. Hearing a sigh, Widow says,
“I’ve called in a helicopter. They should be here soon.” At that moment I hear and feel the wind pick up.
“My ride here?” I ask as I hear something rather large land behind us all.
“Yup.” Spangles says walking past me. I’m assuming he has Peter seeing as Thor’s holding me, Barton had his hands free to handcuff me, and Stark seems unstable right now. Or that he’ll shock anyone who touches him. I turn away from Thor and follow the sound of Rogers footsteps. I hear several feet rush towards me so I stop and say,
“I’m fine. Blind and in pain, but perfectly fine and certainly not helpless.”
“My apologies, Lady Viper.” Thor says. I hear him to my right, so I reach my hand out until I’m touching his chest. I give him a couple pats and say,
“All good, Blondie.” I skirt my leg out in front of me to make sure there’s nothing in front of me. I do this until I hit a metal bar on the ground. I straighten up and take a deep breath. How am I going to do this?
“How ‘bout I,” Rogers says jumping off the helicopter and in front of me, “do this.” He finishes while picking me up. His arm snaked around my waist and he clutched me to his body. In taking a breath quickly as my feet leave the ground, I throw my hands around his neck and pull myself closer to him. It’s not that I’m enjoying this, I just don’t trust him to hold me. Sure he has the super strength and all, but balance and stability play a whole other part in this carrying someone thing. My worries increase as I feel his body shift as he hoists us into the helicopter. I clutch him tighter in fear that he’ll just drop me, but he uses his other hand and places me gently on the floor of the helicopter. I release the breath I hadn’t known I was holding with my hands slowly moving from his neck to his shoulders. I didn’t think this simple action would make me so anxious. Man I really hate the Avengers. They’re the only people that get me like this! Spangles notices my emotions because he says,
“Are you alright?” I wish I could see his face because his voice hitches at the end and I can’t tell why. Not bothering to look up because I’ll probably end up starring at the air, I keep my head straight, which I’m sure makes it seem like I’m looking at his chest, as I say,
“Yeah, I’m just not used to being blind.”
“I’m sure Dr. Banner can help with that when we get to the tower.” He replies. After a couple seconds of silence, I say
“Mind helping me find a seat Spangles?” How much you wanna bet he rolled his eyes along with the sigh he just gave me? He slowly pushes me back until my legs bump into something. Instinctively, my hands fly back but they meet 2 different shoulders. Not caring who it is, I use the mystery shoulders to help me sit down. Once seated, I move my hands to my lap. The person to my left moves closer. He leans over me and reaches across my waist. My mind doesn’t move fast enough to stop my hands, but my right hand grasps whoever reached over me. I move his hand to my left hand and hold it between mine. The palm is course and I create a theory in my mind. My left hand travels up the arm attached to this hand while my right still holds it. My hand glazes across this person’s chest where I feel a bow string and then it goes down his other arm. I feel his right hand and confirm my theory as I feel the calluses on his fingers. “Big Bird, I-uh- thank you, but I can buckle myself.”
“Okay.” He says like he did before, emotionless. I now know Barton’s on my left, but don’t know who’s on my right. I pull the belt across me, but then reach my hands to the shoulder of the person on my right. My hands move down their chest and I realize only one person can pull off this spandex.
“Peter.” I say quietly with sigh. I move back and sit in silence for the rest of the flight.
A/N: Okay, Jade wasn't so lucky with the Avengers sneaking up on her. But just wait what's in store for her. Now, what do you all think of her being blind? What do you think of the fight? What do you think of Steve hauling her around? I hope that this fight scene is up to par for everyone!
Anyway, the picture attached is another one of Jade's tattoos. I know I don't mention it in this chapter, but Peter does when he talks to the Avengers about how to find her. It's on her left wrist too.
Oh and I finally saw Mockingjay the other day, and may I just say ASDFGHJKLAHSLKDJGOWENLKJSODIFHWNLNCJ So ya basically my mood before, during and after. I personally thought it was close to the book and I won 5 bucks in a bet with my friend as to when it was going to end, you know cause it's two parts and all. Okay enough of my life, you didn't come here for that you came here for Jade's life.
That's pretty much it, so please leave your thoughts and questions in the comments and don't forget to vote, cause I love it! Talk to you in the comments and next update!
