Part 53 - The Rules!

"Damn! Tu compa tiene pege (Your homeboy is smooth)," commented Francisco to David who had enjoyed the show from the sidelines.

"I don't see where he gets it from. If he could only use it for other things," said David in awe of his friend.

Claudia came over to see how the club was doing just as the last group of people were getting their cups.

"How's it going? Kind of slow?" said Claudia.

"We sold out!" said Joan excitedly.

"What? No way!" said Claudia in disbelief.

"How the heck did that happen?" asked Claudia.

"Your friend was awesome!" said the rest of the group as they came in to recount the tale.

Cheeto was helping out the last of the people when Claudia noticed the price.

"What the freak!? I thought we said $1?" she asked.

"Who changed it?"

"Pues aqui tus ojos (Well, your eye over here)" boasted Cheeto.

"Of course you would," said Claudia smiling.

"High five!" she said which Cheeto gladly retaliated.

"See you later Cheeto,"

"Thank you Cheeto!" said people as they walked by.

"Who are they? You know them?" asked Claudia.

"No," replied Cheeto which made everyone laugh.

"Oh my God Cheeto. You are too much," said Claudia.

"So que mas (what else)?" asked Cheeto.

"That's it. No mas," said Claudia.

"Just gotta put everything away and that is it," she continued.

"You are welcome to stay and see the rest of the fair," she suggested.

"Pus que no (Why not)?" Cheeto said to David since they rode together.

"Sure," David replied.

"So let's start picking this stuff," said Cheeto.

"No, don't worry about it. We got it. You did enough for today!" said Joan.

"Yeah man. Thank you for your help!" said Francisco.

"Cool no clean up. I hate that part," confided Cheeto to David as they left to explore.

"David, I have something for you," said Claudia as the guys were leaving.

"What's up?" David asked.

"Here. I was able to get some information for you for basketball teams and fill out an application for the Center to provide some funding. There is a league we can join and I already set up the kids. If you are ready we can start next week. The first game could be next weekend," said Claudia as she handed David a folder with all of her findings.

"You did all of this already?" asked David amazed.

"You said enough talk. So there you go. Ball's in your court," she said. No pun intended

"Don't let us down," she said smiling at him.

"Don't worry. It'll be good," reassured David.

"Good, I know. So see you around. I'll be here till it's over. Maybe around four. If you guys are around maybe we can go get something to eat. My treat," said Claudia as she hugged him to say bye.

Cheeto noticing the farewell came over to say his goodbyes.

"Que (What)? NI que se valla a morir (Not like he's dying)," said Cheeto.

"We gonna be here till the end que no?" said Cheeto to David.

David frowned at the idea of spending the whole day at the University.

"Ni tienes nada que hacer (You have nothing to do)," said Cheeto. Claudia laughed at the exchange.

"You guys. You don't have to be here all day. If you need to leave early that's fine," said Claudia.

"We'll see," said David as the guys started to leave.

"Ok," said Claudia.

"Do I get a hug? Oh estoy nomas pintado (Or am I just a painting)?" protested Cheeto as Claudia was leaving too.

"Aye, I already did," said Claudia complaining.

"Not me!" said Cheeto.

"There, there! Poor baby," said Claudia mockingly as she complied.

David and Cheeto spent a few hours at the fair. It was a big even but by two o'clock they had seen everything, twice. They had lunch, walked around the campus and saw some performances.

Around that time, David got a text from an unknown number. He looked at the text and figured it was Clyde. It read, "Can we meet?"

David replied, "Yes. What time? I'm free right now."

There was no response for a few minutes as David keep looking back at his phone.

"Que (What)? Traes novia o que (You got a girlfriend or something)?" asked Cheeto who noticed David checking his phone.

"No. Just Clyde," replied David.

"Oh about the job? What did he take it back? Ha-ha you getting fired and you haven't done nothing yet. Least I worked with him for a while," said Cheeto.

David ignored him and waited. Almost ten minutes later he received a text with read "OK. I can be at your place in an hour."

David texted back, "I'm not at home. I'm at the State University."

"What? OK, I can pick you up in about an hour," replied Clyde.

David told Cheeto he needed to leave and Clyde would pick up later.

"I can take you if you want," said Cheeto.

"NO! I mean no thank you. Clyde is on his way and we are going to talk about work I guess. He didn't really say," replied David.

"Cool. I'll wait with you," said Cheeto.

"You don't have too," said David as he tried to separate from Cheeto before Clyde arrived.

"It's no problem. I'll wait with you," insisted Cheeto.

Just then Joan, Kelly, Cynthia and Francisco spotted the guys.

"Hey guys!" said Joan.

"You two just hanging out?" she continued.

"Yeah. We just had lunch so now we are just sitting for a bit," said David.

"We were all going to LA Pizza. You guys should come! Claudia is going once she's done. I now you just ate but you could come and chill, get a drink?" she suggested.

"Yes! That would be awesome," said David to the surprise of Cheeto who was ready to talk David into going.

"Ha, my boy! That's what I'm talking about! Let's go!" said Cheeto.

They were all ready to leave when David excused himself from the group.

"Oh I forgot. I'm meeting someone shorty, so I'll have to bail on you guys. But you take Cheeto with you. I'm sure you'll have a good time," said David.

"What? That's lame bro! You don't even have to meet Clyde for another hour!" protested Cheeto along with the rest of the group.

"True but there's this package that Claudia wants me to take a look at and there are some things I want to check out before I go," said David.

"Lame!" said Cheeto.

"You guys have fun though. I'll see you later Cheeto. It was nice meeting you all," said David and went of his way.

David walked for an hour, looking over the basketball league information before Clyde came around to the campus. The two coordinated on where to meet and David headed in that direction.

"Hello David," said Clyde somewhat formally greeting David.

"Hello Clyde. Thanks for the lift," said David.

"Not a problem. Glad you were free. What are you doing all the way out here?" asked Clyde.

"Helping out a friend for a fundraiser, but it's over," said David.

"You're a regular saint," teased Clyde.

"Just drive," said David anxious to know why Clyde wanted to meet up.

"So what's up? I doubt you drove all the way out here just to know what my day at the University was like," said David not wasting time as usual.

"You do get straight to the point," said Clyde

"If we doing this whole night watch deal; we doing it my way. My equipment, my rules. This is no rock-em-sock-em type of business. You military so you know about recon, stake outs, intelligence," Clyde emphasized the last part.

"Now, I haven't made it this long by being tough or strong. I'm not the best fighter and I'm not the master, genius that is going to give you some sort of insight, or answer; something to make you a better, whatever. I've made it thing long by using my brains and being patient. It didn't take me a day to get all of this stuff together so I don't intend to have it all crash down in one night either. So all of this impatient, gotta know right now, bull shit, stops here. This isn't a team. We not working towards the little league championship or some nonsense like that. I'm Big Papa and you're little shit! You got it? And if you are not down with that, then you can step off right now," laid down the law Clyde.

"You done?" replied David with a sly smile.

"Yes I'm done. And don't get smart with me. I'll slap that boy band smile off yours back to Duran-Duran!" warned Clyde.

"You'll what?" said David laughing at the dated reference.

"You heard me. That military training of yours aint gonna do you no good. You were getting curbed stomped the last time before I got there. So don't you forget that," said Clyde.

"Ok. I got you. Let's go. But I'm not calling you Big Papa," said David agreeing with Clyde's terms.

"That's fine. I only have smart kids," teased back Clyde.

"OK! Hold on to your balls. It's gonna be a wild ride!" he continued as he pulled out of the school.
