CHAPTER TWO

It was now, dinner time. Both families sat around a long table, it was black with gold lining. It was luxurious.

And there were blue and white roses in a vase, which sat atop the table.

All four parents chatted away as they spoke of the wedding. Meanwhile Victor gawked at Alice as she poked at her steak.

"The food is rather.. peckish.. don't you agree?.." Alice mumbled absentmindedly.

Victor nodded. "I agree.. it is rather good." He smiled awkwardly.

"It's better than yesterdays, anyhow.." She sighed as she poked at a small pea, while plunking it into her mouth.

Victor sighed as he worried, he wasn't sure if he and Alice could connect. She was beautiful.. but rather.. strange.

"Victor." Alice called quietly. "..Yes?" He asked, hesitating.

"Victor, have you any idea why a raven is like a writing desk?" Alice whispered to the boy who looked generally confused.

"..No?" He whispered back, confused beyond all. But the curiosity was written on his face.

"... Sometimes... I feel like I've gone mad.. completely bonkers. But I'll tell you a secret.. all the best people are."

"And sometimes.. when I confess I've gone mad, I wish someone would just tell me that, all the best people are."

Alice mumbled absentmindedly as she chewed on a piece of steak.

Victor stared at her, completely unaware of just how much he admired her. But he knew one thing.. he admired her honesty.

"I.. don't quite understand.. but I admire all of your thoughts, what else do you think about?" Victor asked curiously.

".. Sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast." Alice says with an owlish gaze his way.

And.. there is a smile on her face. All of her suitors have been in love with how she looks and the idea of her, but once she talks.. they no longer wish to marry her.

Girls shouldn't talk so much, they'd say..

Victor looked at her in wonder, a smile written on his face. "Six impossible things before breakfast? Like what?" He asked curiously.

"..Like.. A cat having the wings of a butterfly, or a bird with a cats tail, or a lions hair instead being a cloud, where a deer isn't in headlights, like a rabbit with two tails, and a fox with a levitation." Alice mumbled.

"I thought of that before dinner." She hummed.
"..I admire your creativity." Victor admits with a boyish smile.

"And I admire how you listen to me, instead of shutting me out.."

Victor frowned at her reply, he wished more people listened to her. She had many fascinating thoughts to share.

Soon dinner was over as both families went to the church, for the rehearsal so that the two could practice their vows before their wedding.

Victor looked anxious as he fiddled with his hands.
