What I liked about this book:
The plot here is sort of an interesting setup. The lead character, Jamie, is witness to a gang crime and needs to go into witness protection in exchange for her testimony. There, she starts falling for the agent in charge of her case. A little cliche, to be sure, but I like it.
What I did NOT like about this book:
Nobody in this book has any personality. The beginning was so dry and lifeless that I would not have continued if I weren't reading it for a review. I do not care about your character waking up in the morning and how tired they are. It makes ME tired. Don't start books like this.
The first thing Chris does upon meeting her is think about dating her, which is creepy and inappropriate. I am given no reason for the two to be attracted to one another other than the narrator tells me so. There is no life in their interactions.
Apart from that, what is the FBI doing in London, and what is an English woman doing as part of witness protection? Apart from that, why was she given a high-profile job in a huge city instead of a low-profile one literally anywhere else? I know she's just an assistant but her photo is going to show up somewhere.
The book gave me no reason to like the MC or anyone else. It was flat and lifeless, and honestly kind of boring. It wasn't the worst I've read but it didn't make it on to my favorites list by any means.
Overall:
Very meh book.
Rating:
5/10. With better pacing and characters that are actually compelling, this could be a fun read.
