What I liked about this book:

I really like mythology, and I really like the setting the author laid out in her prologue. It would have made for a fascinating story.

What I did NOT like about this book:

The entire book has a pace so slow I scarcely made it through chapter five. Nothing happens, and instead I get large amounts of infodumping on every single creature present in this world, the various types of guards, and what their functions are. Ariel tries to wander off a few times, but there really isn't any rhyme or reason behind anything she does.

It's also told in multiple first person POVs, which like many of the books I have failed to complete, makes a confusing narrative even more confusing.

Overall:

Bumbling, slow, and makes no sense.

3/10. There might be something here with a lot of editing.
