The Rebel Princess

Author: jamieblackmarr

Genre: Fantasy

What I liked about this book:

This is another high fantasy book that mostly has the worldbuilding going for it.

What I did NOT like about this book:

I actually cried uncle on this one too, mostly because it was 58 chapters long. I got in 16 of them which was enough to make a fair appraisal. I actually did this a couple weeks ago, but I had such a tough time with it that I moved it up my reading list and gave up for then because I wanted so badly for this book to be decent. I tried to skim through it again this week.

Unfortunately, it was just as bad as the first time.

This book is so dry I almost can't stand it. The entire first chapter, almost, is a description of every single thing Selena does, and every single breakfast item at their table. It was boring. I did not care. I lost interest immediately, and it only got worse from there. Sixteen chapters in and the war hasn't started yet, but no one can stop talking about it. Instead we get Ervyra sneaking off into the woods and her fey friend cracking jokes about her corset.

There are some other bit characters that don't have any personality either, and I cared about them about as much. But really, the problem with this book is that nothing happens in it. I was just bored. I was so bored I gave up. I give up on maybe 10% of my books. For a finished epic fantasy, this simply isn't good enough.

Overall:

I was bored.

Rating:

3/10, it could be decent if the plot came right away and the author didn't spend pages talking about peoples' clothes and the food they're eating.
