Genre: Fantasy I guess? Honestly I don't even know

What I liked about this book:

Seldom do I come across a book so patently ridiculous that it excuses all the plot holes therein. I'm reading a book about a talking boot being worn by a wizard and his grandma. It can't possibly take it too seriously. All the weird problems with the magic system (like people only being able to move in one direction and the world suddenly being a cube) are therefore excused immediately. 

I wound up asking an awkward number of ridiculous questions like 'but why can't four people just sit on a wheelchair and go somewhere at the same time? How many cardinal directions are there? Is it like, super specific and people can only move in a verrrry specific fashion? Where the hell did the bathtub come from? Is there seriously a fucking stork wearing a goddamn bathrobe?' 

But all of this is treated as a joke. I want to know what substances the author consumed before they wrote this.

What I did NOT like about this book:

The punctuation can use some work. The pacing is a little weird but it works here. Honestly, this genre of story is just not for me. I liked hitchhiker's guide a lot, and I liked flatland, but both had overarching things to say about society, whereas this really doesn't. It's super fun, and lovely, an I'm sure some people will really, really love it, but it's just not for me, and this is through no fault of its own.

If you like absurdist humor you will probably like this. I only really like it when it has a point. But the writing here is solid. I would have preferred more if it were in third limited instead of third omniscient, but I think it would be hard to tell this story in third omniscient.

I think this book would also work better as a graphic novel/children's book.

Overall:

Not my thing, but it's probably someone else's.

Gonna be generous and give it a 7/10 because I honestly don't think there's anything wrong with it, I just don't like the genre.
