My Brother, His Keeper
Author: tkjpage
Genre: Fanfiction
What I liked about this book:
There is a small glimmer of an interesting story underneath everything, what with the girl whose brother disappeared only to pop up later as part of a famous band.
What I did NOT like about this book:
I actually DNF'd this, which you guys know doesn't happen very often, because it was so confusingly written. There were large chunks of paragraph with incorrect spacing/paragraph breaks which only added to the confusion. Formatting is important. Not having good formatting shows me that you are lazy. But past that, just from the two chapters I read:
-I have no idea who MC is
-I have no idea where she lives even though like 16000 different locations are mentioned
-How does her best friend know her from high school if she recently moved?
-Her brother only disappeared six years ago, but MC is old enough to have a 13 year old niece she is in charge of. Wouldn't MC's friend have met the brother? Wouldn't niece have mentioned her father???
-Why would a Christian rock band guy abandon his daughter to join a band?
-He's famous and part of MC's favorite band? Wouldn't she have recognized that one of the leads looks just like her brother?
-Why did she move and why is she using a different name now?
-What makes her think, if her brother put so much effort into disappearing, that he'd ever want to meet with her?
The dialogue is stilted, and mentions full locations several times with city, state. This doesn't make sense, real people don't talk like that. The prose jumps around from idea to idea so there is no real clear path between them all. First we have horses, then a storm, then her brother disappears, then a band, then her brother's IN the band (????). It's all just generally a confusing mess.
Overall:
I wouldn't finish this.
Rating:
1/10. This story doesn't make enough sense for a further review.
