Author: AnonEMauss

Genre: Adventure

What I liked about this book:

This author has written a pretty classic YA novel, even though it's been given an adventure label. It's easy to read, thrilling, and fairly fast-paced. The setting is laid out well in the first two chapters, and the cast is fun and quirky, even though they've only known each other a couple weeks. The point of view is also consistent. I enjoyed parts of this.

The premise is also VERY interesting. All the kids are stuck in a dreamscape, which is why none can remember one another. It's something I'd love to see the buildup to.

What I did NOT like about this book:

Lots of this book is TOO fast-paced. I have no idea who the guy chasing them is. If they don't remember, why do all of them care so much? Ditto for the 'dreamscape' itself, which in places just confused me. The author needs to slow down and describe what is going on, or I am going to lose interest in the book.

Edern needs more personality. Right now he reads like an empty shell, and although the first chapter was VERY strong, it sort of lost a lot of its momentum afterwards and got sort of jumbled. I would have enjoyed it more if the book had slowed down and paced itself.

Overall:

VERY interesting premise. Poor pacing and lackluster execution. I might read it again on a second draft, and I think the author should keep working on this. It has the potential to shine even if it doesn't yet.

Rating:

5/10. I had nothing against it, but it could be better than it is right now.
