Forest Boy
Author: byugancrystal
Genre: Teen Fiction
What I liked about this book:
The prose is really clean and copyedited well. There are very few grammar/spelling errors, which is a nice change from the last few.
What I did NOT like about this book:
The last thing I should be three paragraphs into a book is bored. It didn't even take me that long with this one, the opener is straight-up terrible. It's just Sophia and her family driving to their cabin, and a whole bunch of infodumping about what the cabin's like and how they've been going there once a year for twelve years. That's pretty much the entire chapter, actually.
In the next chapter we meet the new neighbors, who somehow no one has managed to come across in the twelve years they've visited there. For the rest of the chapter there's inane talk. Then we find out they're completely isolated from outsiders, and Rhyse starts hitting on the MC despite not having any friends or having had any social interaction in his eighteen years.
There's no plot here. It's Sophia and Rhyse, the obvious love interest, doing inane bullshit in the woods. There's not even anything to chase them or to make it interesting for me, and the writing is really wordy and super dry, which makes the pace slog.
I need there to be plot in a book like this, or at least some emotion. Otherwise I'm not gonna give a shit, and I don't here.
Overall:
This was super uninteresting to me.
Rating:
4/10. Uninspired. At least the prose was clean.
