Demonophobia: Act I

Author: daedra_does_things

Genre: Mystery/thriller

What I liked about this book:

Tynit's inner monologue is amusing, and I can't tell if this book is intended to be taken seriously, or is a somewhat clever poe. It was easy to read through, mainly because of Tyrin's regular interruptions to tell the reader stuff.

What I did NOT like about this book:

A novel that is clever still needs to have an engaging plot, and this book doesn't have one.

The prologue would have made me stop reading if I weren't doing so for a review, and for the most part the plot is dry and lifeless. I also don't fully understand how the pieces fit together, and a lot of it is poorly explained...like what exactly Tyrin even is, for example.

The locations are messy, I have trouble sorting out in my head where I am, and I get that there's an assassin guild killing Central employees or whatever, but it's so poorly laid out that I don't actually care why. Tyrin's clever interludes simply weren't enough to redeem the piece, and I won't be reading any more.

The author probably reads/watches too much bad anime.

Also it blatantly states in the summary that it needs a mature tag but the author 'doesn't feel like it'. Mature tags are there for a reason (though so far nothing in this book requires one).

Overall:

It was almost entertaining, which frustrates me more than if it had outright sucked.

Rating:

4/10, but no better.
