Code Red: The Arrival
Author: Aditya_mewati
Genre: Fantasy
What I liked about this book:
There was some good worldbuilding here, I suppose.
What I did NOT like about this book:
That's all there was.
This story was told in the dry, telly style of third person narration that I just can't stand. There's no insight into Rao's head other than his father was a traitor, and that he likes to play by himself because the other kids make fun of him. The rest of it is just one long infodump of information I don't care about. I don't understand why they call it the daysun, I don't have enough investment to care, and the prose flings me back and forth between settings so fast I have a hard time focusing on anything.
I made it to chapter two of this before I gave up, because the chapters were very long, and they dragged. I'd like to see some sort of hint of an inciting incident--like Rao joining the dragon squad--before it happens. It's okay to show me a character's day to day, but they have to have enough of a voice to make me care what happens to them. Rao does not have enough of that voice.
Rewrite this with a mind for the character's personality and you might have something that works. Right now it just bores me.
Overall:
This was just sort of unpleasant to read.
Rating:
3/10. I will have forgotten about it by next week.
