What I liked about this book:

The gem in the skin idea has been done before but has the potential to be interesting. The different social classes dictated by the kinds of gems and their placement is a pretty unique idea as well. This has a lot of potential as a concept, particularly with MC's black gem and the powers it imbues.

What I did NOT like about this book:

Usually I read entire novels, but I didn't get far into this one because the formatting is so bad it's nigh unreadable. Speaking should go in quotes, not just with -, and should indicate who is talking. I had no idea what was going on or who was talking for long stretches, and quit around chapter 6 despite several attempts to finish in which I had to start from scratch because I was lost.

There was nothing interesting in the prose either. MC is bland. Side characters are bland. Text just tells me a bunch of things and doesn't inspire any kind of emotional response. 

Overall:

I don't have a lot to say about it because there wasn't a lot there, but not enjoyable.

Rating: 

2/10. Formatting needs to be corrected. Text itself wasn't very good.
