Part 5

I awoke the next morning feeling oddly at peace for the first time in a long while. The girl called Kitty sat on her bed, knees pulled up to her chest, staring at me wide eyed.

In a bit of a hazed up stupor I had teleported back into the room I was sleeping in. I threw my cape onto the floor before falling straight into bed.

I sat up, stretching my arms above my head. "Good Morning." I greeted cheerfully. Glancing at the clock, I saw that it was 8:10 am. Good, that means I've slept an extra 3 and a half hours.

"You are purple..." The girl states in awe. I looked down at my hands and they were indeed a particular shade of violet. "Oops!" I curse. Realizing that I had forgotten to enchant myself before I went back to sleep. I quickly snatched the blanked from where it had curled up around my legs, and cover myself. "Let the object of objection become but a dream, as I cause the seen to become unseen." I whisper the incantation. Only after my skin returns to 'normal' do I release the blanket from my hands.

Kitty is no longer sat on her bed, instead she is standing, arms crossed, beside mine. "I see why they call you violet." She laughs, "I just thought it was your eyes and hair."

I gulp in shame, eyes downcast. "Please... D-Don't tell anyone." I stutter. "Oh honey..." She cooes sympathetically, placing a warm hand on my shoulder. "You've got nothing to worry about here. You are in the one group where skin color truly doesn't matter. We are equal opportunity employers." She laughs. "Just look at Kurt and Hank. But, I won't tell anyone if you don't want me to. I'll let you do that when you are good and ready. Breakfast is in 20, the shower is just right across the hall." Is all she says before walking through the solid wall.

I sigh, she's right, and obviously means no harm. But still my guard is up. Living the life I have for the past 2 years, if you don't look 'normal' you usually don't get a very long life span.

Hung over the foot of the bed is a set of fresh clothes, probably Kitty's. She must have left them out for me. Black jeans and a lilac blouse.  hmmm, she must be color coordinating. I bundle the clothes and shoes up into a ball and leave the room to find the shower. I locate it easily, and finish the bathing process relatively quickly, though I do admit to spending a good portion of my time simply standing under the hot running water. It has been a good while since I have had a proper long hot shower.

After a little magical manipulation to the clothes and shoes, I head to the dining area. I had to make them all a couple sizes larger, as I'm not exactly the same dress or shoe size as the small and petite 'Shadowcat'. I enter the room to find it that everyone had all ready began eating. "Sorry I am late." I apologize, folding my hands together. "Hot water was a little distracting."

"It's quite all right Violet, have a seat."

"Fräulein!" Kurt calls excitedly through a mouth full of food, motioning to the empty seat beside him. His disguise generator was turned on. I crossed the room and sat down beside him. Grabbing his hand and squeezing it under the table. His golden eyes lightning up at my contact. Jean passes me a plate piled high with gleaming golden pancakes and my mouth waters.

I bow my head to pray when suddenly I feel a 3 fingered one clashing over my own. Peeking one I open I see that Kurt has decided to join me in my silent prayer of thanks. His head lowered, eyes closed. I feel the entire room staring at at but I care not. "Amen" I whisper. "Amen" a heavily accented German voice follows seconds later. We raise our heads and smile at each other until someone clears their throat. Followed by a short snort of laughter.

"Bobby, just because you do not believe in a higher power doesn't mean you should mock those who do." The professor warns sternly. "Thank you Professor." Kurt nods respectfully, The room once again fills with the buzzing noise of conversation. I dig into my meal, savoring every bite.

I notice everyone is here except for the one called Logan. "Where is the Wolverine?" I ask Rouge, who was sitting beside me. "Logan's gone for a run in the woods, he'll be here any minute though." She replies.

I finish my meal, Unable to take another bite I push the plate away and drop my hands beside me. Kurt grabs it, giving me a devious smile. I stare at it, It looked funny, like five fingers constantly in a Vulcan salute. Cocking my head, I grab the rim of his watch and give it a twist. It whirs mechanically, revealing his true form. Now a blue, 3 fingered hand clasped mine.

"That's better." I smile up at the daemon, giving his hand another squeeze. I feel several pairs of eyes staring oddly at us. Suddenly shying, I drop his hand and reach for my cup of coffee. "That's no fair fräulein." Kurt whispers. "To unmask me, yet hide yourself."

I sigh, he's right. If I want these people to trust me enough to let me stay, I'm going to have to tell them. Better they find out now then on the battlefields. "Everyone..." I call, trying to get their attention. Yet nobody seems to here. "Excuse me..." I call out again. Still nothing. Kurt whistles loudly, that gets everyone's attention. I gulp, here goes nothing.

"I understand being on this team means being honest with each other, and I would like nothing more then to be a part of It" I declare. "To show that I really mean this... I have something I wish to show you. Something that I have hidden from the rest of the world since I could cast my first spell." I take a deep breath and stand. Closing my eyes in dread and releasing my spell. I hear several gasps. I slowly open then to find a dumbstruck audience. I gulp and slowly sit down. "This... This is what I really look like."

"I am quite proud of you for this." Starts Charles Xavier. "I can feel just how much courage it took for you to do that. That may be one of the most difficult things you've ever done." I Sigh in relief at his words.

"Vi, your beautiful in any color, especially that one." Compliments Rogue. "Manefique." Smirks Remy, giving me a thumbs up "Welcome to club." Laughs the blue beast of a man.

"With declaration of your willingness to trust us, I have no choice but to accept your offer to join us." Declares the Professor.  "Told you Hon, Equal opportunity employers." Winks Kitty, nudging me in the side.

Afterwards I help Scott and Jean to clear the dishes. I'm picking up the cutlery as the ever gruff look Iooking Logan walk in. He glances over me before doing a double take. "Purple." I hear him laugh under his breath, shaking his head. Grabbing the last plate of food, He walks passed me, stopping suddenly and sniffing the air. He walks up beside Kurt and takes a whiff, before walking to me and doing the same. He bursts out in fit of laughter. "Sly little elf."

Kurt looks up at him in confusion as I do the same. "Oh don't you two look so innocent, even though you've showered I can still smell him on you." He laughs as he walks out. I turn back to find the rest of the team, particularly the Professor, staring at the two of us suspiciously.
