Black Hole had the chance to sit down with Jade_writesalot.  Jade is the the author of Cooking With The QB, Chasing The Stars and The Transfer.

Hi! I'm Black Hole, your interviewer from the Crazy Late Nighters Community. What name do you prefer for yourself that your readers and we should call you? It can be a nickname or your real name whatever you like. Also, what pronoun do you prefer?

Everyone calls me Jade! I've not really got any nicknames, to be honest. She/her works for pronouns.

Oh, that's great Jade. It's a nickname itself. So, how many books or drafts have you written so far yet and how many of them have you published? Also, which ones are your most favorite? Have you ever had a very awesome idea that you never wrote down on paper?

I think I've written about 10 drafts but never published them! I've got 3 existing books on Wattpad published which will hopefully grow soon. I usually have small plot ideas randomly and never write it down but I've got notes on my phone so if I get an idea, I try to write it down as soon as possible.

That's really nice that you make notes. Have you ever created a huge plot from those small notes? And from where do you think you mostly get those ideas from? Do you get them from your dreams?

The whole of Chasing the Stars was based of little notes! It was a combination of ideas that came to me. I've had lots of ideas come to me from music which I find hugely influential. There's lots of different things, it's usually a random process - which makes it a lot more exciting!

Do you like listening to music while writing? What's your favorite song? And what's the biggest difference you usually see in your writing when you're listening to music than when you're not?

I love listening to music when I'm writing! Right now, my favorite song is Hard feelings/Loveless by Lorde but it's usually anything calm whilst writing! I don't see a big difference in my writing style if I don't listen to music, but my concentration won't last as long so it helps to have it on.

What was the best review or comment you ever got on your book? Do you remember it? And what positive impact did you have on your book?

I've been lucky enough to have loads of supportive readers so I can't choose a single one specifically! I find comments that know the characters/plot well mean a lot to me as it shows they've really connected with the book, which is great to hear

Is there no comment that was so nice that you still remember it? Or any comment that might've made you change any of your stories?

I actually took a photo of this comment because it completely made my day! Wattpad can be a hectic place sometimes but there's always people like this that make it worth it. I try not to let comments affect my story as I feel like the plot should remain as authentic as possible.

That's really nice. You don't let anyone change your plot? Has anyone ever suggested you any changes in your book that you thought were so good that you used them?

Yeah, I try not as I find it can confuse ideas! It was suggested for Chasing The Stars that there should be contracts instead of just unwritten rules (which I originally had) so that got used as it was more genuine.

Oh, that's great I don't see many writers do that. Do your friends and family know about your book? And if yes then did you tell them before or after you published it? Also, what was their reaction when they saw it and what was your reaction to theirs?

My family and a few close friends know about my writing! I told them once Cooking with the QB hit 100K reads but I kept it a secret before then. They were all really shocked and I had to pull out my phone to prove that it wasn't a joke hahaha. All of them were really happy for me in the end, though!

Do they still read your books?

A few of them do! It's always strange to hear when they talk to me about it as I got so used to my books being a secret hahaha.

Haha, you must be feeling like a star now. Like an undercover star. Also, I ask this to everyone, I want you to write a review of one of your own favorite books. But not as a writer but as a reader of your own books. And I also want you to rate your favorite book from 5.

I'll review Cooking with the QB: Cute, romantic storyline which is simple but with a few twists! A swoon-worthy male lead makes everything better. There are a few grammar mistakes/ plot holes which need to be addressed but overall, it's okay! Overall, I would probably give it a 3/5.

Why 3 and not 5? What do you think is missing that it's not 5 stars yet?

Maybe I was a bit harsh hahah, maybe a four! But I just think its small things that add up like language choices and grammar that need to be improved on to make it a 5/5. I'm proud of the book regardless!

So, if you know that your book is not five but four stars right now then why haven't you done anything yet to make it 5 stars? Do you think that there was something that you could've done but didn't? Or is it just that you don't want to go overboard?

I'm focusing on writing other books right now (I'm currently writing The Transfer) so I haven't had the chance to go back and re-write any mistakes! I'll hopefully manage to one day. There wasn't anything at the time that I could've done but didn't as I tend to put everything in when I'm writing! Passing of time usually gives a different perspective. That as well as my writing style changing the more, I write.

Oh yes. I understand that's actually pretty nice that you always try to give your best. And yes, passing of time brings a lot of change into our thinking. What is your personal favorite book though? From the ones you've written yourself. Cooking with the QB?

Cooking With The QB was so much fun and the book that really got me into Wattpad so I think I would have to say that one! I'm really enjoying writing The Transfer right now so that could change! Every book has been a favorite at some stage, it differs all the time

Also, I wanted to ask whether writing makes you feel relaxed or tired? Have you ever felt relaxed after a tiring day because of writing?

Writing has always been an escape for me! I find it really relaxing, even after a tiring day.

Oh, that's really nice. I don't find many people saying that. Most people take writing as a weight. Like it's some work they don't want to do. It's so great to hear that from you. Your favorite book "Cooking With the QB", are you planning to make more parts of it? And if not, then are you going to write any trio or a duo in near future?

At the moment, there's no plans for a sequel but there's been a lot of readers commenting and asking for one so it's maybe a concept for the future!

Oh, so it is possible. That's great! If I were to become a writer then what will be the advice you will give me? Maybe something you wish you knew before? Or just something you think can be very helpful for all those people who are inspired by you and are starting to write.

I think you need to be sure on your plot. There's nothing worse than loosing inspiration and then feeling the pressure update! Similarly, I prioritise readers over everything. Connecting, responding to comments, messaging them - I think all of that is really important to help raise the book. It also creates an amazing community which, personally, I'm really thankful for my own.

And don't forget the notes lol. So, connecting to your readers is the most important thing for new writers according to you?

As a new writer, connecting with readers and having a passion for writing are definitely the most important factors, in my opinion! Writing should be expressive, not a chore.

That's a good thinking. So Jade, since we've reached the end of this interview, would you like to thank those who helped you in writing your books or without whom you might not be what you are today? And thank you for having this interview with me. It's been a great time talking to you. Have a nice day!

Thank you to everyone who has supported, helped or shared any of my books! I wouldn't be here without my family who have never doubted me, so thank you to them, as well.

Hope you have a good day, too.
