Thirty Nine
-Mia-
I woke up with a small pain in my back, the sun shining through the open window and onto me. The bed was cold and empty and I was laying in the middle by myself.
It took me some time before I remembered what the night before. I sat up automatically before covering my mouth and running to the bathroom, vomiting into the toilet roughly.
I cleaned the toilet, brushed my teeth and showered. During that whole time, I pondered a lot on what happened. I was scared to see him again yet confident to as well. I needed to tell him what had to be heard.
I cautiously walked downstairs and heard the sound of laughter coming from the kitchen - his laugh to be exact.
Biting my lip, I pushed the door open to see Vincenzo leaning against the counter by the stove whilst laughing. April was sat by the island with a huge smile on her face as she ate her toast.
He stopped, noticing me and his smile faded. "Hai mama!" April cheerfully said, I forced myself to stop looking at her father and smiled at her, ruffling her hair. "Good morning, darling, are you alright?" She nodded, munching on her food, finishing it.
I grabbed a wipe from the pack, letting her drink some of her juice before I wiped her mouth. "Why don't you go upstairs and play for a little bit then I'll get your coat and shoes on for school, okay, honey?" She nodded, saying goodbye before leaving the room.
I was alone with him.
I bit my lip, rubbing my arm as I looked at him but he didn't meet my eye. "We need to talk," I told him quietly but he didn't reply instead, took April's plate and cup and began washing it in the sink. I stood there watching him.
He finished and dried his hands before grabbing a clean plate and putting two slices of bread on it and beginning to make a healthy sandwich. He cut it in half before turning and facing me. He placed it on the counter and poured some orange juice in a glass and placed it beside the plate before looking at me.
Silent treatment, huh?
I couldn't decipher what was going on in his eyes. His face expression seemed neutral, emotionless and hard at the same time.
I looked down at the plate, realising it was for me. It was healthy for me and the baby. I bit my lip again, slowly taking a seat in front of the plate. "Thank you," I told him genuinely as I looked at him in concern. "Can you talk to me?" I asked quietly as my hands felt warm and I placed them on the table, taking a bite out of the sandwich.
He glanced over at me, unfolding his arms before leaving the room silently. I sighed, dropping the sandwich and placing my head in my hands. What was I supposed to do?
I hung up on the phone with Cat before leaving my phone on the counter and moving to go downstairs. I was midway down when suddenly April came running down and there wasn't enough space.
She had an aeroplane in her hand and zoomed past me, knocking me off balance so I tripped, falling down the stairs while screaming.
I quickly gripped the handle, sliding down, my stomach scratching a little against the wall as I fell at the bottom on my butt. I gasped, my hand going to my stomach instinctively.
I panicked even though I was lucky not to fall on my stomach. April seemed to realise what she had done wrong and tears came into her eyes. "Mama!"
"April, it's alright, just go and get daddy." I didn't want to move. My back was on the wall. I was scared even though I knew the baby wasn't harmed. I had to be sure.
She quickly ran away to find him and not long after, Vincenzo came, a worried look on his face. "Are you alright? What happened?" He asked, finally talking to me. He crouched down, his eyes filled with concern as he put his hand on my stomach.
"I think I'm fine. I scratched my stomach a little but I don't know how to know if the baby's okay."
He called the doctor who came over and checked me and the baby. He was alright and had moved his position in me a little without me even realising it. I was safe and the baby was okay. I was being a little dramatic but the doctor said that it was normal to worry like that and he left after checking me.
I pulled a few strands of my hair away from my face as Vincenzo helped me up, his face going back to neutral. "V-" he turned and left. I sighed, irritated before placing my hand on my stomach and following him.
He went into the gym and I followed him straight in there. "Can you talk to me?" I asked, slightly annoyed as he walked over to the punching bag, his boxing gloves on.
"I should be the one angry at you - not the other way around," I said with a sigh as he started roughly punching the boxing bag.
"I'm sorry that I tried to leave like that. It was in the night and I understand why you're upset about that but you have to understand why I did it. Can you look at me at least?" He punched the bag even harder, grunting a little.
I walked closer, folding my arms and glaring at him. "Don't ignore me. Talk to me!" He continued punching and punching and punching. "Talk to me!"
He let out a loud groan as he punched the boxing bag hard so it fell off its chains on to the floor, he then looked at me with an angry expression and I took a step back as he came closer, taking off his boxing gloves and fisting his hands. He clenched his jaw, his eyes narrowing at me.
"You want me to fùcking talk?" He yelled, causing me to flinch a little in fear. "Don't yell," I practically whispered as tears came into my eyes.
He threw a punch at the boxing bag angrily with a loud grunt. "How am I supposed to feel when my girlfriend, who's carrying my baby, tries to take off in the middle of the night with my daughter?"
"She's mine too," I said quietly yet fiercely. "Not biologically!" He snapped back which felt like a slap.
"Don't!" I snapped back, "I've forgiven you and took care of April like my own biological child - most people wouldn't!"
He clapped slowly, a sarcastic look on his face. "Well, lets give Mia a round of applause!"
Tears came into my eyes, "how dare you mock me like that? Don't you realise how much I've done for you? You keep walking over me and taking advantage of my qualities and I'm sick of it!"
"You wanna fucking leave?" He shouted and I flinched, a quiet whimper escaping my mouth. "Go! leave! The door's right there - but you're not going anywhere with my kids."
I wiped my eyes, hating the fact that I looked so weak in front of him. "They're mine too and they can't stay here! It's not safe - you're not safe!"
His face hardened and he walked over and I moved back, my back on the wall as he stood intimidatingly in front of me. "I love them - I love April and she is my daughter, I'm the best mother she's going to get! And the baby I'm carrying can't be in a place filled with danger or be around a drug addict of a father."
"I am not a drug addict."
"You are!" I snapped, tears rolling down my cheeks. "You take them whenever you're stressed. What's going to happen when the baby comes? Babies take a lot of time, are you just going to sniff cocaine up your nostrils every time it gets too hard? I - we have to go! I can't trust you anymore!"
"You're not going anywhere."
I groaned loudly, "stop controlling me so much! You know what," I said fiercely. "I don't give two flying fucks about what you say anymore. I'm going with my kids and don't you dare stop me." I went to push him away but he pressed me against the wall, not letting me go.
"Don't touch me like that!"
"I'll touch you however the fuck I want!"
I shook my head, a sob escaping my mouth. I covered my mouth, staring into his now dark eyes that scared me. "You're not the man I met anymore." I sighed, uncovering my mouth and looking into his angry eyes. "I love you and always will but I can't be with you-"
"You're breaking up with me?" He asked, his tone hard and bitter.
"I-I don't know. ." I honestly said, my voice tearful. "I just know that I have children now and I can't have them here. We're leaving, Vince and won't come back. Until you sort yourself out, we'll talk but for now. . I want you to let me and the kids go and not keep in contact."
I looked down, not wanting to meet his eyes and hoping he wouldn't look at me or yell. There was a silence between us before I heard him say, "no."
I snapped my head up, looking at him in slight irritation and annoyance. "I will scream the roof off if you don't let me go right now."
"Scream all you want."
I stared at him challengingly before opening my mouth, about to scream when the door bursted out and entered Leonardo who was panting, his face sweaty.
He glanced between us questioningly before bursting out, "he's here." My eyebrows furrowed and Vincenzo took me by surprise by grabbing my wrist. I gasped as Leonardo left the room and Vincenzo took me out the gym.
"What's going on? Why are you dragging me - ow, that hurts!"
He didn't reply instead took me outside and into one of his many expensive cars. "I'm not going in until you tell me where I'm going," I frowned, snatching my arm away from him and folding my arms.
"I don't have fucking time for this, don't be so stubborn and get in the car," he irritatedly snapped, practically shoving me inside and slamming the door before Leonardo came out the house holding April.
"What's going on?" I asked even though he couldn't hear me from the outside. The door opened and April was placed into her car seat while Vincenzo sat in the drivers seat.
Panic ran through me and I didn't understand what was happening. "Vincenzo, what's going on?"
He ignored me again, putting a seatbelt on April who was playing with her Barbie and putting one on me. Leonardo stood by Vincenzo's side and said something in Italian, his eyes distant. They then did some kind of side man hug before Vincenzo rolled up the window and started waving, Leonardo being left behind as we left the land.
"Vincenzo?" I asked in a hard tone. He didn't reply instead, turned on some kids radio and keeping his eyes trained on the road. "Vincenzo!" I snapped, wanting to get his attention as April sang quietly along to the song playing.
I sighed, placing my head on my fist and my elbow on the window pane. My other hand went onto my stomach, rubbing it gently as my eyes went to look out the window only I couldn't see what was going on outside.
I was scared and nervous and started to feel tired from all that crying from earlier. I noticed that after a while of silence, the only sounds were the car moving and April singing to the radio. April stopped singing after a while and fell asleep.
I turned to Vincenzo. "Can you tell me what's going on?" I asked quietly but he gripped the steering wheel more, his knuckles turning white and his jaw clenching. "Vincenzo?"
"Stop. Just stop," he muttered harshly. "No," I said firmly, "let me out this car. I told you, I'm leaving with April."
"Now isn't the time, okay?"
"Yes, it is. Stop the car."
"Mia, stop!" He snapped, finally glancing over at me. "I-I just need you to sit down and keep quiet, please. I really mean it when I say that now isn't the time."
I bit my lip, adjusting myself in my seat and rubbing my stomach. "Okay," I whispered, my head against the window.
My eyelids starting dropping after a while and before I knew it, I was falling asleep.
I woke up by the feeling of the car slowing down. I opened my eyes, looking over to my side to see Vincenzo stopping the car. "Where are we?" I quietly asked as I yawned, stretching and arching my back a little.
He rubbed his eyes before looking back to see April still sleeping. "Come on," he said, avoiding my question and opening the car door.
I stepped out, noticing my surroundings. We were in a small area with bungalows and lots of land and views. I bit my lip, unsure as he took April out the car, holding her before walking, me following him.
We stood in front of a bungalow and he took out some keys from his pocket and I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion as he twisted the lock and opened the door revealing a small living room. He walked in and I followed him nervously and closed the door behind me.
He disappeared through a door and came back not long after without April in his arms.
I folded my arms, glancing around. It was plain. There was cream carpet and cream painted walls. A beige couch and an average television with a coffee table.
I stared at him in exhaustion. "Can you just tell me what we're doing here?"
Nodding, he moved closer, his hands in his pocket. "This is going to be our home for a while."
"What the hell are you talking about?"

Sorry for ending the chapter there, I know you probably desperately want to know what's going to happen next but. .its a nice cliffhanger!
I know you guys wanted a Vince POV but I couldn't really see how and was kind of struggling with that and felt better in Mia's POV but I will try next chapter to slip in Vince's POV but it might not be definite.
I do try and update everyday or every two days but I do it at least once a week. It's not always easy because I have other things to do so please have patience with me.
I really hope you enjoyed this chapter. Don't forget to vote and comment and share, and follow, they really do boost my feeling for writing for this book.
Comments really do help (good ones) and votes make me feel as though what I'm writing is actually entertaining people.
Sharing helps more people read this book and following is just
something nice to have - also after this book ends, I will be writing a new story so keep an eye out but for now I want to concentrate on 'Vincenzo's Lover'.
I'm considering changing the name but what do you guys think?
Anyway, I hope you enjoy!
