Fifty One
Because you all wanted to know:
-Mia-
"What?" I asked, snapping back to reality. Vincenzo pulled out a tissue and started wiping my knee. I looked down, noticing that the doctor's coffee had spilled on my jeans.
"I'm sorry, I spilled some of my coffee on you," the doctor said as Vincenzo patted my lip with the tissue and placed it in the bed.
"Sorry? Weren't you saying sorry?" I asked, a little confused. "Yes. .for the coffee. ." The doctor slowly said.
My eyes widened, "wait, so you weren't saying sorry for anything else?" Vincenzo gave me a weird and confused look and the doctor slowly nodded. "Yes. .miss, are you alright?"
I nodded, straightening up my posture. "Yes, I am, thanks. I just want to know how my baby is?"
"Ah, yes," he said, glancing at his clipboard as Valentina sneezed. "Bless you," we all murmured as the doctor cleared his throat.
"Francisco Rossi, is it?" I nodded, feeling nervous as I prayed for good news in my head.
"We suspect there's been an infection which has lead to the foam and the temperature. We're not sure of the cause yet but I can tell you good news; Francisco is getting better and is now in a much better condition. The medications have been working and he's doing fine."
Tears of happiness came into my eyes as I sniffed, smiling. "He's better?" The doctor nodded, a smile growing on his face. "Much better."
"That's great," Maria said, giving me a warm smile. "Is he awake?" Dante asked but the doctor shook his head. "I'm afraid not, but he'll probably wake up tomorrow. .or in two days. .we're still not sure. His condition is rare."
I nodded. "Christmas is in two days," Liliana pointed out and I nodded again, wiping my eyes. "I hope he wakes up soon."
"He will," Vincenzo told me, squeezing my hand gently as I sniffed. "I know he will."
Two days passed on and I was sleeping on someone. They shook me awake and I saw that I was laying on Vincenzo's legs. "Mia." I yawned, sitting up and looking at him. He had a smile on his face as April was sat beside him, her head looking down at her iPad as she played some games.
He knew I hated her playing games early in the morning. It was bad for her eyes.
April looked at me and grinned, "Merry Christ - Christmas, mama!"
I smiled, realising that it was indeed Christmas. The day that Christ was born. I reached over and took her hand, squeezing it gently. "Merry Christmas, honey. Are you alright?" She nodded as Vincenzo went to pass her a lolly but I took it out his hand. "No sweets in the morning." They both groaned and I chuckled, shaking my head and stretching a little.
"Your Christmas present - well part of it is here."
It didn't feel like Christmas to me and I wasn't in the mood to have presents. I just wanted my baby.
"My present?" I asked, a little confused as he gave me a playful smile. "Come on."
I sighed, "where are you taking me?" We stopped in front of a hospital door. I looked at him and he looked back, grinning.
He then pushed the door open, revealing a hard plastic crib with a baby in it, kicking his legs and laughing as he played with the toys.
I gasped, tears coming in my eyes. I quickly walked to him. There he was, laying down with a wide smile on his face as he played with his toys. I smiled widely and he noticed me, his smile growing. "Oh, my baby!" I cried, wrapping my hands around his small body and picking him up, cuddling him to my chest.
"Francisco! You scared mama, I'm so glad you're alright!" I told him, kissing his cheek as he smiled, his warm body on me. I hugged him, stroking his back and holding him close.
Vincenzo was leaning against the doorway, smiling with his arms folded as his large biceps showing off.
I kissed Francisco's forehead as he babbled a little and I chuckled, tightly but gently holding him. "Don't ever scare me like that again, baby," I told him, kissing his cheek lovingly as I rocked him a little.
I glanced at Vincenzo, "thank you." He raised an eyebrow, coming over. "For what?" He asked and I smiled softly at him. "For giving me hope. This is the best present anyone has given me."
He shrugged a little with a grin, "you don't have to thank me."
"But I do," I said, as I adjusted Francisco in my arms. "I love you."
"I love you too," he said, and I passed him Francisco. Vince blew a raspberry on his cheek and Francisco laughed, his sweet voice filling the air. His small hands went to his father's face, holding his cheeks as his father blew another raspberry on his neck.
Francisco laughed and I smiled, enjoying this. He was happy and healthy, I was glad and grateful.
Vincenzo laughed, kissing his son's cheek and lifting him up, gently and carefully throwing him in the air and catching him, making his son laugh.
I grinned before saying, "don't toss him too much or he'll-"
It was too late. Our baby threw up on his face.
I groaned, covering my mouth as Vincenzo slowly processed what just happened but Francisco continued laughing, clapping his small hands.
I bursted out laughing and Vincenzo groaned, passing our baby to me. I held him, wiping his mouth with his bib while Vincenzo walked over to the sink, cleaning himself.
I laughed, shaking my head while Francisco buried his head in my neck, relaxing.
"Told ya."
"Dance?" I asked as he held his hand out to me. "Yes," he told me, rolling his eyes. "Come on." I shook my head as Francisco laid his head on my chest.
He rolled his eyes again as I said, "I'm just going to sit and play with this little cutie." I kissed Francisco's cheek, holding his hands.
Vince sighed, "Mia, come on. Give him to Lili." Her head shot up from her phone at the sound of her name. "Sorry?" I shook my head, "no, leave her. She looks like she's having a very interesting conversation with someone." Liliana had been texting someone for the last hour and she kept smiling and giggling quietly whenever she read the texts. I planned to ask her about it later.
We were at home. The music was playing and food was being passed around as everyone either danced, drank or chatted. It was Christmas after all and we were all having fun.
I had held Francisco for hours and didn't let him go. I wanted to make sure he was alright. I didn't want to leave him. What if something happened to him again?
"Yes," Vincenzo replied, glancing at his sister who started laughing. "And that interesting person better not be male."
Lili looked up from her phone and rolled her eyes. Vincenzo gave her a look. "Don't show me attitude." She huffed and he gave her another look. "Who is it?" Vince asked and she sighed, "no one, jeez, dad."
He reached for her phone and snatched it off her. "Hey!" Liliana gasped, trying to get her phone back as Vincenzo held it away from her and started scrolling through her phone.
"Vince!" I exclaimed, "you can't do that!"
"Yeah!" Liliana added, trying to get her phone. "Privacy, Vincenzo! Give it back!"
"Ay, you still act like children. Vincenzo give your sister her phone!" Alba said as she came in with a plate of food.
"'You are so beautiful' - this made you laugh? What the fùck are you guys talking about?"
"Vincenzo! Language!" Alba snapped, coming over and slapping the back of his head as he groaned. Alba walked over to Leonardo, starting a conversation.
"Vincenzo, give me my phone!" Liliana snapped, getting irritated.
"Oh my God," Vincenzo laughed, continuing to scroll. "Vince, give it," I scolded but he didn't listen.
"'I think I'm falling in love with you' . Lili, who is this guy? What, 'love heart, love heart'? Who is this? Your teenage crush. 'Lili, I think you're amazing and funny and attractive, I really want to'-"
"Vincenzo!" Liliana snapped loudly, trying to grab her phone. I sighed, standing up with Francisco in my arms. "V, give her the phone. Don't be child."
"'Lili, can we talk? We can't deny what's going on between us any more. .' Aw, Lili, you got a crush?"
"Vince!" I snapped but he laughed, scrolling some more.
"No, no, wait listen, 'Lili, are we meeting at our spot?' Spot? What to have sex?"
"Vincenzo!" She screamed, finally grabbed the phone off him. He laughed but she looked down at her phone, closing it. She wasn't impressed and neither was I.
"Vincenzo, that was out of order," Val said, coming over.
Lili frowned, folding her arms as Vincenzo laughed, "Come on, Lili. It was a joke." He went to touch her but she moved away.
She looked at him with teary eyes and his face softened. "Lili. ."
"Don't talk to me," she muttered, storming out the room.
I sighed and he ran a hand through his hair. "Well done," I told him. "All you were supposed to do was persuade me to dance with you, then you ruin Christmas for her."
He sighed, "I didn't me-"
"You did," I interrupted. "She's nineteen! I don't know what's happened to her but I know that I wouldn't be happy if my older brother - if I had one - read my private messages with someone I loved. How do you think she felt? You teased her about it and made her feel stupid. You can't just do that."
Great. Our first argument since he was clean.
He bit his bottom lip. "I'll go talk to her." I shook my head, passing Francisco to him. "I will. I don't think she wants to see you."
I rubbed my hands, giving him one last glance before leaving the room and going to Lili's room.
She was sat on her bed with her head in her hands. "Lili? Can I come in?"
She nodded, lifting her head and sighing.
I sat beside her, "what's up?"
"I like this guy . . and he likes me too but I just. .I'm scared. ."
"Scared of what?" I asked softly as she sniffed, "of men. I'm s-scared he's going to hurt me. ."
"Why?" I pressed on and she sniffed again, tears in her eyes. "The joke that Vincenzo made - about sex, I don't know. It just snapped something in me. I-It reminded me of something that happened when I was younger. .I was - I was r-r. ."
"You don't have to say it," I told her genuinely and she nodded, wiping her eyes. I looked at her sympathetically. "Lili, if he's someone you like a lot, and feel comfortable with, go for it. Don't let something in your past hold you back. You can't always hold back. Maybe he's the way of moving on."
She nodded, her hands together. She licked her lips and smiled, "thanks. .am I. .am I moving on too quick?" I shook my head, giving her a warm smile. "You remind me a little of my friend Cat - downstairs with the light pink highlights in her hair." She nodded, remembering her.
"She's went through something similar to you and asked me the same question. You're not moving on too fast. You're doing well." She smiled, pulling a strand of her hair behind her ear. "Thanks, Mia. I appreciate it."
I smiled and the door bursted open. There entered Blaze, Ariana and the whole other trio of Rossi children with toys in their hands as they ran in.
"Kids, come on," I said, chuckling. "Go play somewhere else." They laughed, running out but April came to me and gave me a kiss on the cheek before running off.
I smiled, shaking my head. "They're adorable," Liliana told me, "I just wish I didn't miss so much of their lives." I nodded, kindly looking at her. "Don't worry, you're here now and they love you."
"Now, come on," I told her, standing up as did she. "It's Christmas."
We were soon sat in the living room, exchanging presents.
Lili and Vincenzo had spoken and were soon on good terms again. Vince apologised for his behaviour and Lili forgave him.
Dante had gotten Vincenzo a large pack of condoms, and me some birth control. Apparently because we couldn't keep our hands off each other although he couldn't talk because he did the same with Val.
Val had gotten me a signed copy of a book that I loved and wanted for ages. I couldn't stop thanking her.
Now, I could run through the whole list of presents that I got but we would be reading this for a long time. Let's just say, some presents were thoughtful and kind, although some (some meaning Dante's) were ridiculous yet funny at the same time.
The kids had already started playing with their presents and running around the house happily, Vincenzo asked me if I wanted him to try on the condoms as a joke. I honestly didn't know what to say back, Dante and Valentina were kissing again, Lili was on her phone, Alba was cooking up a storm, Cat and River were cuddled against the couch watching a Christmas movie, and Maria and Leonardo were talking. Francisco, the twins, Bambi and Lyric were asleep.
Vincenzo and I were sat on the floor, our backs on the couch and my back on his chest.
I sat up immediately, turning to far him.
"Where's my present, mia amore?"
I gasped, "holy crap! I completely forgot. I'm so sorry! It's just that with all the baby-"
He interrupted me by kissing me lovingly, pulling me close and chuckling against my lips as he pulled away.
"Calm down, its alright. I-"
The doorbell rang. "I'll get it!" Someone yelled.
Not long later, the door opened and entered Cristiano wearing an expensive suit with Rose's arm linked with his. Her hair was on her shoulder, curled and shiny. Her lips were matte red and she had dark makeup on. She had a maxi crimson dress on that hugged her curves and black heels. She looked gorgeous.
"Hey, family!" Cristiano casually said as Maria scoffed, sipping her drink. He looked at her and winked, "hey, baby, you miss me?"
"I can't believe you gave him the mafia," Dante muttered, glaring at his brother. "I can't believe you got married. To this sexy lady too, you could do so much better, baby. Come to papa."
I coughed, choking on my saliva as Liliana bursted out laughing, unable to contain her laughter.
Cris looked at me, "ah, mademoiselle sexy. You still want me?"
Rose rolled her eyes and slapped his arm lightly. "Cris, leave them alone."
"What are you doing here?" Vince asked, a little irritated. He wrapped his arms around me, pulling me closer.
"It's Christmas and I'm a part of this family whether you like it or not."
Leonardo rolled his eyes, "sadly."
"Come on, Leo! You know you love me, bro."
"Do you ever shut up?" Valentina asked, irritated too. He slowly licked his lips as he looked at her from head to toe. Valentina looked at him in disgust and raised an eyebrow. "Stop eye-ràping me."
"I'm sorry, but who are you?" Cat asked and Cristiano started eye-ráping her too. "Hey, pal. She's taken - like all the women in this room," River told Cris, wrapping his arm around Cat and kissing her cheek.
Cat flashed her engagement ring at him and Cristiano covered his hand over his heart. "Ouch! You gettin' married. Damn, baby."
I rolled my eyes as Rose said, "Cris, stop. It's fùcking annoying."
"Language!" Alba yelled from the kitchen. "Hey ma!" Cristiano yelled back.
"You back, traitor?" Alba yelled back and Vincenzo snorted, sniggering a little.
"Yep, and better than ever!"
"Well, if you're back," Alba said, coming in. "You need to eat." She passed him some food and he took it, taking a bite. "Mmh, some good stuff."
"Ay," Val said, rubbing her forehead. "This is going to be a long Christmas night."
"Indeed it is," Cristiano said with a full mouth. "So do you ladies want a nightcap?"
"I swear, if you don't shut up. ." Maria muttered, lifting her hands and he raised his own in surrender. "Mmh, feisty. .I like it."
"Give me strength, Lord," Vince muttered.
"I think we all need it if we're going to survive tonight," I replied.
"Start praying, baby," Cristiano interrupted with a smirk.
