Chapter 9: Right Person Done Wrong
"Get up."
Jungkook gaped up at Eunha with wide eyes, his cheek still stinging from the impact of the slap.
"I said get up," Eunha repeated through gritted teeth.
Jungkook gulped as he stood up to his full height, causing Eunha to crane her neck upwards to glare at him. Harshly grabbing him by the arm, Eunha strode towards a cafe that had an outward shade so she stopped under it to be shielded from the snow for the moment. She felt like she could freeze to death. She was damp and cold from every strand of her hair to every inch of her skin. All because of Jeon Jungkook. She grimaced. Letting go of Jungkook's arm, she brushed off the snow from her clothes and hair. Jungkook, however, stood still as a statue, as if he feared Eunha would hit him again if he moved.
Eunha could see he had turned blue in the face. He was even wearing fewer clothes as compared to Eunha so it was obvious that he'd be shaking. She waited for him to jerk off the snow but he didn't move, or even glimpse at her. He just stood there with his head down like a kid who was about to get scolded by his mother. As Eunha kept staring at him, he hesitantly lifted his gaze to look at her briefly. His eyes were as big as a deer, disheveled hair, and pale and pursed lips. Eunha hated that he had such a baby face. It made her feel soft, and that was the last thing she wanted to feel for Jungkook. Exhaling a frustrated breath, she moved closer to the brunette and brushed the snow off his clothes.
"I don't even know where to start with you," Eunha began, retreating her hands once the snow was off Jungkook. Jungkook shifted from one foot to the other without saying anything. Eunha noticed that he looked ashamed and somewhat gloomy. For a moment, Eunha still couldn't believe Jungkook was standing before her. She had thought that they'd probably never cross paths again. The world was so odd.
"How could you, Jungkook?" She fumed, scowling at the boy. "I made my best friend mad to help you because you were hurt and alone, and you, you betrayed me and stole from me. I trusted you." Jungkook could hear the frustration in her voice and her glistening eyes displayed how hurt she felt because of his selfish actions. The feelings of guilt that Jungkook had been subduing earlier came flowing back over him like an immense wave.
"I'm...sorry,"
"You're sorry? You expect me to believe that? I can't explain how furious Taehyung was and how furious I am! You're such an asshole, Jungkook!" Eunha raged, slapping Jungkook's arm. He flinched back, repeating the apology.
"Taehyung's literally out for your life right now. You should be thankful you came across me and not him."
Jungkook was definitely grateful for that. He didn't even want to imagine how Taehyung would react if they ever met again.
"I'm really sorry, Eunha-"
"Shut your mouth, you're a liar!" Eunha shouted, making Jungkook take another careful step back. He was a bit surprised to see that someone so kind and nice as Eunha was capable of such anger.
"Eunha, please listen," Jungkook tried again, partly covering his face with his hand just in case Eunha decided to choose violence again. Eunha let out a long groan before nodding at Jungkook, sternly. "Fine. Go on. Tell me your petty reasons and try to manipulate me,"
"Believe me or not, Eunha, but I've been regretting what I did ever since I left the house. I am so sorry. I didn't want to steal from you guys, but I needed the money to pay off the loan I took from those thugs. Those guys were going to find me and beat me up again if I didn't pay them back. They said they were going to kill me. I was frightened and desperate. Look, I'm not trying to make you pity me or manipulate you into thinking that I'm not the bad guy. I definitely did you wrong and I apologize for that. I was just...I was just trying to survive,"
"You could have told me all of that from the beginning!" Eunha cut Jungkook's rant short, seeming even more exasperated than before. "I could have helped you,"
"Why would you have helped me? Did you expect me to believe that a person could so readily help a stranger in this cruel world? No one is that nice. Everyone pretends that they care but they don't. And your friend, he wouldn't have ever agreed to it anyway." Jungkook scoffed, looking away.
"Jungkook, Taehyung is not as bad as he seemed,"
"I don't want to know what kind of person he is, Eunha. I don't care about him. I'm only apologizing to you because you helped me. You're...kind. It's rare to find people like you nowadays," Jungkook remarked, nibbling on his lower lip. It appeared like a habit to Eunha. She had seen him chew on his lip in the same way as last night. He did it when he was anxious.
"You found one so you thought why not take advantage of her, right? You must have had a marvelous time fooling me." Eunha stated, curtly, crossing her arms over her chest.
"It's not like that, Eunha," Jungkook bit down on his lip. "I already explained myself."
"And you tried to run away AGAIN just now, what do you have to say about that?" Eunha arched a questioning eyebrow at him as she tapped her foot on the ground.
"That- I just got startled, I guess," Jungkook reasoned, rubbing the nape of his neck. Eunha noticed how pale his hands looked like all the blood had been sucked out of them. She looked down at her own hands and they looked just as pale. It was so cold. "I wasn't expecting to bump into you like that. It was so sudden that I couldn't even think of how to react."
"Fine, I'll believe you," Eunha sighed.
"Thanks-" Jungkook beamed.
"Don't get ahead of yourself just yet. I'm still mad as hell with you!" Eunha cut him off, grabbing him by the collar of his jacket. Jungkook gasped softly as he was pulled closer to Eunha while she glared daggers at him. Leaning into Eunha to match her face level, Jungkook stood at an awkwardly bent angle, wondering if she was going to hit him one more time. If that made her a little less angry, he was willing to take it.
"Give me back my things or I'll report you to the police," Eunha threatened. Although she wasn't that mad at Jungkook after hearing his justification, she still didn't want him to know that she had forgiven him so quickly. She didn't want to seem easy.
"No, don't do that," Jungkook shook his head. "I'll return everything. I'm sorry." He raised his hands in a surrendering manner and Eunha let go of him.
"Then I'll take your word for it. Let's go, I think I'll freeze if we stand here any longer." She added as she turned around and wandered off. Jungkook stood confused for a moment before following her. He couldn't understand how Eunha's emotions could shift between casual, nice, and angry at the same time. Her moods changed faster than the seasons.
"I swear I'm going to be so mad if you try to run away again," Said Eunha as she sent Jungkook a skeptical glance.
"I won't. I cross my heart and hope to die." Jungkook retorted as he traced a cross over his chest with his index finger. Eunha rolled her eyes.
"I don't trust you so I'll hold onto you until we reach home," She told Jungkook as she clutched him firmly by the arm. Jungkook didn't protest. He knew he had to right to after what he had done a few hours ago.
"We're going back to your house?" He asked, bewildered, as they walked down the street, arms in arms.
"Precisely,"
"But what about Taehyung? He'll kill me if he sees me!" Jungkook tensed up, sounding more panicked than he has intended to.
"Doesn't sound like any of my concern," Eunha smacked her lips.
"But Eunha-" Jungkook immediately tried to pull his arm away but Eunha grabbed onto it even harder, making Jungkook bump into her side as a result. Their shoulders touched and Jungkook felt his cheeks heat up.
"I'm kidding, stop panicking," Eunha grinned. He immediately turned his face the other way so that she couldn't see him blushing. He looked like such a fool.
"Taehyung won't be home, I guarantee you. In fact, he might not come home for a while," She reassured him and he seemed to relax again.
"Why won't he be at the house? Is he seriously searching for me?" Jungkook questioned, sounding uneased by the thought.
"Yes," Eunha answered. "but disappearing is one of his many bad habits so he doesn't actually need a reason to go missing on me," She shrugged.
"That's weird. Where does he stay if he doesn't come home?" Jungkook wondered. He felt relieved that he didn't have to face Taehyung.
"With his friends apparently," Eunha stated, distastefully.
"His friends?" Jungkook tilted his head. He glanced at Eunha's arm tightly wrapped around his and felt his heart skip a beat. He felt embarrassed that Eunha could casually walk so close to him while he was blushing like a teenage boy.
"Some street thugs," Eunha made a sour face. She wasn't looking at him. "Personally, I don't like Taehyung hanging out with those kinds of people but it's not like he ever listens to me." Jungkook noticed her shoulders slump.
"Oh."
He didn't know what to say since he knew neither Eunha nor Taehyung very well. He didn't know much about what kind of people they were, but to his amazement, Jungkook found himself more curious about the two strangers than he had expected himself to be.

The route to Eunha's house was rather extended and difficult for both Jungkook and Eunha as they had to go around walking in the snowfall. Eunha didn't want to wait around for the blizzard to stop. She was too cold in her damp clothes and needed to change before she got sick. It was the same case for Jungkook. Though Eunha didn't know if it was a good idea to bring Jungkook back home, she did it anyway. When they were finally at the door, she carefully entered first to check if Taehyung was home. After making sure the house was empty, she gestured for Jungkook to come in. Jungkook reluctantly followed. Eunha felt like a teenager who was sneaking her boyfriend in.
The moment their feet touched the warm floor of the house, both of them let out a loud sigh of relief in sync. Jungkook turned his head to look at Eunha as she turned hers to look at him and they locked eyes. Eunha chuckled.
"It's so nice and cozy inside," Jungkook simpered. The floor heating system was worth the bills.
"Tell me about it,"
Removing her coat and scarf, Eunha walked to the living room with Jungkook following behind her like a lost puppy. "Leave the bag on the couch," She commanded, pointing at the couch in the living room. The same couch where Eunha had fixed Jungkook up last night.
"Okay," He obeyed.
"We should both take a warm bath and change," Eunha stated the obvious, making Jungkook glance down at his wet clothes.
"Will I have to wear Taehyung's clothes?" He asked.
"I doubt mine will fit you," She clicked her tongue.
Jungkook sighed.
"I don't want to wear his clothes,"
"But your clothes are wet, Jungkook, you'll get sick if you keep these on!" Eunha argued.
"I'll be fine," Jungkook insisted.
Eunha grimaced. She felt irritated that Jungkook was being so irrational. Staying in his current clothes was surely going to make him sick, and she didn't like his display of contempt toward Taehyung. How could he even dislike Taehyung so much that he didn't want to wear his clothes when he had only met him once?
"How do you even hate Taehyung so much already? You don't even know him." Eunha voiced her thoughts, giving Jungkook a dour look.
"It's not that," Jungkook pointed out. "Taehyung will be mad if he finds out I wore his clothes."
Eunha's face became vacant. She couldn't believe he was worried about that when Taehyung wasn't even around.
"Well, would you rather have Taehyung be mad at you or get sick? And I'm warning you, if you catch a cold, I'm not going to babysit you. I'm going to kick you out because you didn't listen to me." Eunha threatened as she jabbed a finger at Jungkook. Jungkook stared at the scowling girl for a few moments before letting out a dramatically loud sigh.
"Geez, alright." Jungkook finally agreed.
"Good choice. You can shower in the bath attached to Taehyung's room and I'll go in mine. You better not be gone when I come out," Eunha told Jungkook as she made her way toward her room.
"I won't,"
"What's the guarantee?" She turned to look at Jungkook as her palm turned the doorknob of her room.
"I don't have a better place to go to in this nasty weather anyway," Jungkook said, shrugging.
"Makes sense." Eunha nodded. She knew Jungkook wasn't so dumb to go outside right now when he was already shivering from the cold. Moreover, if he had to run away again, he wouldn't have come with Eunha all the way here in the first place.
"I'll be back then," She went to her room and locked her door. Jungkook sighed again as he hesitantly made his way toward Taehyung's room. After about half an hour, Eunha returned to the living room. She had changed into a tea-pink sweater dress paired with off-white thermal leggings and her ombre hair streamed down her shoulders.
Jungkook was back on the couch, dressed in Taehyung's black turtleneck and pants. He was rubbing his hands together and Eunha noticed his hair was still wet.
"You should dry your hair too," Eunha exclaimed, grabbing Jungkook's attention.
He turned his head to look in Eunha's direction. "You're back,"
"Come here, I'll blow-dry your hair," She gestured for him to follow her into her room so he did. Making Jungkook sit down in front of her dressing table, Eunha switched on the blow dryer and began working on Jungkook's hair.
"You know I can do this myself, right?" Jungkook shifted uncomfortably, feeling his cheeks flush for the second time that day as Eunha touched his hair.
"Do you not know how to be grateful or what?" She snapped.
"...thanks."
"Oh, I almost forgot," Eunha suddenly paused and bent down to open a drawer. Jungkook watched as she brought out a heating pad and handed it to Jungkook. "Put it between the material of your shirt and warm your hands with it. Your hands look like there's no blood circulation in them."
Jungkook did as Eunha said and felt relieved when the heat pad warmed up and the warmth traveled to his freezing hands. He stole a glance at Eunha's reflection in the mirror in front of them. She wasn't looking at him, too focused on drying his hair. Though the heat pad was only warming his body, Jungkook felt a warmth spread inside him, a comfort from within. He was being taken care of after so long. He'd almost forgotten how good it felt to be looked after.
"Why are you being so nice to me?" Jungkook questioned, looking down at the heat pad wrapped in the edge of his turtleneck.
"I guess it's in my nature. I can't help but be nice even to backstabbing jerks," Eunha retorted, sarcastically.
"Eunha," Jungkook whined, pouting. "Are you going to taunt me about that forever?"
"Of course," She responded, causing Jungkook to sulk even more.
"Done!" Eunha chirped as she turned off the blow-dryer and let Jungkook fix his hair however he wanted. "Come on, let's go eat now." She spoke as she walked out of the room. Jungkook also exited the room, still holding the heat pad.
"What should we eat? Is there something you're craving right now?
"Uh, how about kimchi pancakes?" Jungkook suggested, slightly surprised that she even bothered to ask him what he wanted.
"Perfect. Let's have them with rice. I'll make some." Eunha affirmed as she sent Jungkook a smile and went to the kitchen.
Jungkook smiled back and felt a pressure build on his chest. That's when he knew he'd made a mistake he shouldn't have. He'd done the right person wrong. He was truly ashamed and promised himself that he'll apologize to Eunha over lunch again, hoping that this time she would forgive him, oblivious to the fact that she already had.
