Family Love
Mat's P.O.V.
I stared at him as he anxiously gripped the steering wheel. Afraid yet eager at the same time to see a friend he hasn't seen in a long time.
I watched him. Somewhat amused as he used all of his focus to drive. Tuning out all the sounds once in a while.
Losing interest quickly in Preston I shifted my body. Directing myself towards the window I stared through it.
The world zipped by us as we rushed past. Preston seemed to speed up the closer we got to the hospital.
I took a peek at Preston. My heart sinking as I saw him trying to hold back tears in his eyes.
"Preston?" I wondered. Not expecting me to talk he tried hiding his face but just gave up halfway through. Knowing he was caught red handed.
"I'm just nervous." Preston croaked out. Preston's voice was raspy. As if he was sore from crying. Or out of breath.
Preston paled as we turned. Following his gaze I felt butterflies stir in my stomach as the hospital loomed intimidatingly in front of us.
My eyes grew to the size of dinner plates as I looked at the huge hospital.
Just to think....Vikk is in there...Waiting....On the edge....Not even a clue of what's going on.
Asleep while we worry about him. And nobody has seen him yet until the accident.
Silence keeping us company in the car Preston drove into the parking lot. The cement synced into one big blur as we drove by.
Seeming to blend into one the farther we went. A sigh escaping my lips I cupped my face in my hands.
Dread and longing mixed around my mind. Nausea swarmed over me as I thought of the idea of going into the Hospital.
I felt my whole body jolt as soon as the car came to a stop. There was no hope of going back now.
Locking eye contact with Preston we stared at each other for a few moments. Both of us trying our hardest to hold back tears.
Once the courage was built we abandoned the silence and comfort of the car and opened the doors.
Whipping around I lashed the door closed.
Slamming the door a lot harder than I should have. Preston walked over to my side. His whole body shook in fear as we walked into the Hospital.
The doors now in arms reached we pushed them open. My feet dragging me to the reception desk. Preston followed me like a lost puppy.
I would do the same if I were in his shoes. But I needed to stay strong for him right now.
I couldn't afford to seem afraid in front of an unstable Pearston. Asking her what room Vikk was in she gave us the directions and we were off.
Preston's P.O.V.
Mat questioned the lady where Vikk's room was while I lingered in back of him. To be honest, I was terrified.
Mat shuffled his feet as we walked. Swaying his arms at his side. I could tell he was nervous. I could also tell he was trying to hide it.
Yet I didn't say anything. My hands shook as soon as we reached the elevator.
My eyes widened as soon as the doors slowly opened threateningly. The metal contraption caused my heart beat to pick up.
Mat walked into the elevator without hesitation. A whimper on the tip of my tongue I bolted after Mat just as the doors started to close.
Smacking into Mat's chest I flinched. Trying to back away I felt his arms wrap around my waist and pull me back.
"It's okay Preston, I'm afraid too." Mat cooed. My eyes widening at what he said I felt my vision blur.
Mat swayed me side to side as the elevator escalated. Bringing us higher and higher above the main floor I just stood there.
Our arms wrapped around each other. Feeling safe in each other's embrace. This wasn't like what I had with Rob.
It was something, nice, like a hug you get from your Mother. Or a sibling. One where you instantly know that you have each other's back through thick and thin.
It was love. Yet it was a different type of love. The love of family. Something a lot of people misunderstood or abused.
The doors of the terrifying elevator slammed open. The elevator stopped humming as we were escorted to the floor Vikk was on.
Mat and I's eyes locking we grasped each other's hands. Nodding in agreement we seperated from the hug.
My body turned cold as soon as we parted. The longing of hugging Mat again was really tempting yet I held it in.
The silence stirred uncomfortably in the hall. Not like the silence in the car when we were driving. Tension swirled in the quiet air. Powered with fear.
Walking with Mat's fingers intertwined with mine he led me to the room. Barely any nurses or doctors were on the floor.
Mat shot me a look as soon as we jolted to a stop. My hands stopped shaking. Mat turned away from me to open the door.
"Ready Preston?" Mat wondered. Excitement and adrenaline with a mix of fear in his voice. Nodding my head I replied.
"Ready as I'll ever be." I answered. A smile radiated around Mat as he grasped onto the door knob.
Mat's hand shaking he pulled the door his direction. Slowly creaking open Mat popped his head inside once it was wide enough.
Mat stared for a few moments. Mat's breath caught in his throat as he made this gasping sound.
Puling his head out of the door he left the door in the position it was. Turning to face me I jumped a little as I saw how pale and worried Mat looked.
"Mat? What's wrong?" I wondered. Mat stared at me. Chewing at his bottom lip he looked me in the eyes. A sad, worried look to them.
"They're here."
