False Hopes?

Lachlan's P.O.V.

The sound of the door opening grabbed my attention. Mat stood right in front of the door.

Awkwardness in his eyes. Slowly Mat's eyes scanned the room. Finally landing on me.

"Oh, hey Lachlan." Mat greeted. Nodding my head I squeezed Vikk's hand tighter. Mat was a clumsy person.

I didn't trust him near the Heart Monitor...Whatsoever....A shudder down my spine numbed me as I thought of what he could do accidentally.

"Hi Mat." I mumbled. Not really paying attention I tried my hardest not to zone out. Especially since Mat was in the room now.

Caution pulsed through my veins. I flinched whenever he took a step, imagining him tripping and ruining everything.

"How you holding up Lachy?" Mat pondered. Turning around I stared him in the eyes. Mat's expression told me he actually cared. For once.

"Not good. Rob is melting down. Mitch tried killing himself. Jerome isn't taking anything to kindly.

And the one I love is in a coma, and probably won't ever wake up.." I blurted out.

Tears blurring my eyes as soon as I spit it out silence answered me. The comfort of the silence calmed me down.

The tears rolled my face and luckily none came back to replace it. My throat squeezed in on me, telling me if I tried to speak. I would cry.

"I'm sorry Lachlan. This isn't fair you have to go through all of this. Especially now that it turns out...All of the Pack is still here.

If that makes you feel any better." Mat spoke up. Confusion swam in my vein as I turned. Staring him in the eyes.

"What did you just say?" I asked. Not believing what he just said Mat nodded in response.

"Preston is alive. He's in fact right-" Mat tried. The door whipped open then slammed shut.

My eyes directing to what made the sound I felt my stomach drop as I saw Preston.

Preston's hair was the exact same like it was the last time I saw him. It's almost as if nothing changed. Almost.

The expression on his face was shocked and sad. Preston's eyes didn't hide his sadness anymore.

They just let it out. Seeming to give up the act long ago. Preston's eyes were wide. Riled up as if he just saw a ghost.

"Lachlan? Oh my gosh..." Preston murmured. Tears welling up in his eyes I stood up. Preston rushed towards me.

Out spreading my arms I felt safe as soon as he ran into them. Wrapping my arms around Preston's waist I lay my head on his.

Swaying each other side to side. We savoured the moment. Glad to have each other back in our lives.

"Have you been ok?" Preston mumbled. Preston's voice muffled as he rested his head on my chest. Listening to my slow, steady heart beat.

"Have you?" I replied. A smile seemed to crawl onto his lips at my question.

"Touche. Sadly, no. I would be lying if I said yes." Preston answered truthfully.

Nodding my head I grabbed his hand and placed it in mine. Intertwining our fingers I just enjoyed as much of his company as I could.

"Same here." I agreed. Preston let out a shaky breath before completely relaxing into my arms. Trusting me as I held him gently.

"You know Rob really missed you." I spoke up. Preston scoffed almost inaudibly. Doubting what I just said.

"Yeah, right, that's why he searched for me. Went home, and forgot about me like everyone else. Right?" Preston assumed.

My eyes widened as I realized how true that actually was. That was basically what happened.

We got home. Mourned for a week. Then everybody acted like Preston never existed. And I didn't even question it....

"Preston has a point there." Mat piped in. Turning my head I stared at Mat. There was no shock in his eyes, just pure calmness.

As if he was curious on how this would end. A sigh escaping my lips I just rested my head on Preston's once more.

This wasn't cheating. Or crushing. I was just enjoying the company of an old, close friend.

A smile grew on my lips as I realized how lucky was. I had one of my old friends back, maybe we could save everyone now.

I Just Can't Get High Hopes....
