Fight

The two women stood outside while many onlookers looked on. Ragnar and his children looked on. Arne stood next to Ragnar. "I don't know what is happening between those two, but you seemed to have caused a rift." Ragnar didn't look at Arne. "Sophia never wanted trouble, but you brought it upon her. You knew that your wife never wanted to train Sophia. If I had to guess, you hoped that Lagertha would get over her jealousy and see Sophia in a new light. How wrong you were. If you no longer desire your wife, then tell her so."

Fridleif, Hilda, and Thyra looked at their father and then at one another. "Father doesn't want Mother anymore?" asked Thyra.

"Father and mother love one another. You both know that they always have disagreements."

"But brother, surely you have seen how father and mother have grown more distant even before meeting Sophia," said Hilda.

The siblings were silent as they looked at their mother and Sophia, ready to fight. Fridleif couldn't stop thinking about what his sisters said. He did notice the distance between their parents. However, he thought it was normal. Father and mother have been stressed about the Itzvar situation. His father was captured for a while, but he didn't know what his father went through. Fridleif heard rumors that his mother was the one who planned the raid to try to kill Itzvar, but it failed, and his father got captured in the end.

Meanwhile, Lagertha and Sophia looked at one another. They held a sword by hand. Sophia was nervous but remembered Arne's lectures about holding the sword. However, this was different; she was going to fight Lagertha. Lagertha held her sword by her side, not motioning it to her opponent. "Come at me."

Sophia knew that Lagertha wanted her to attack. Sophia didn't want to give Lagertha satisfaction, but deep down. Something was telling her to do so. Sophia held her sword with her right hand and swung the sword from the right to the left side. Lagertha dodge. However, Sophia didn't slow down as she motioned her sword from a downward to an upward position. Lagertha still managed to move away, but Sophia suddenly moved to the left and twirled her body almost gracefully while swinging her sword with her. The tip of the sword cut Lagertha's right arm, surprising her.

The onlookers were shocked. Arne and Ragnar looked on; they were also shocked. Ragnar knew that his wife was a skilled shieldmaiden. However, her biggest weakness was her arrogance and pride. He warned her that those traits would be her downfall.

Lagertha looked at her arms. The cut was small but still dripped her blood. She slowly glared at Sophia. "You witch!" Without warning, Lagertha ran toward Sophia with superspeed and swung her sword at Sophia from side to side. Sophia could dodge one of the strikes, but she received a cut on her waist. That did deter her. To her surprise, Lagertha kicked dirt at her, hitting Sophia on the face and covering her view.

Lagertha used that to her advantage. She used the side's flat side and hit Sophia across the face. Sophia felt the impact, and a wave of pain was felt throughout her face. The onlookers flinched; some admired Lagertha, while others felt the opposite. Sophia refused to fall and tried to get the dirt off her face. Then, Lagertha used the bud of the sword and hit her across the stomach.

Arne bit his lower lip and wanted to intervene, but Golm looked at his son, shaking his head.

Sophia fell to the ground. She felt pain everywhere. Dirt was still on her face. Suddenly, she felt Lagertha kick her back. Sophia let out a cough. Suddenly, Sophia said that time had gone slow. Her eyes were closed, but in the darkness, she saw Lagertha was about to kick her again. Next, Sophia saw Lagertha swing her sword upward to a side position. It was strange and frightful to Sophia. Her back shivered. Without thinking, Sophia rolled to the right, and when she did, Lagertha's foot landed on the ground instead.

The young woman stood on her feet, slowly wiping the dirt away. She opened her eyes. Her eyes were almost glossy with a sense of fade. Lagertha ran to her, motioning her sword upward as Sophia saw in her vision. Sophia used her sword to block the attack before the sword could hit her. Sophia then moved to the left as Lagertha swung her sword to the right side, but Sophia stopped the attack.

Suddenly, Sophia twirled to the right with her sword and looked as if she was going to stick Lagertha on her right side. Lagertha thought so, too, and was about to use her sword to strike. However, Sophia went downward to the left side of Lagertha and cut Lagertha on the waist. The impact shocked the older woman, but Sophia then pushed Lagertha to the ground, making the older woman lose balance. Sophia used the opportunity to kick the sword from Lagertha's hand and then motioned her sword to Lagertha's neck.

All were silent.

Arne, Ragnar, and his children were shocked.

Sophia was breathing heavily, as was Lagertha. Lagertha couldn't believe that she was unarmed. Then, Sophia put down her sword and was slowly walking home. As she was, Lagertha was about to get her sword, but Ragnar stopped her. "Enough, you lost. Accept it and stop embarrassing yourself. Now go."

Lagertha glared at her husband and went back to the house they were given. Her children tried to comfort her, but they were ignored. Arne stood in silence but felt pride that Sophia was victorious. In his mind, she was lucky. Lagertha was skillful but let her anger and pride get the best of her. "Son, we must make our plan. Speak to the woman where the attacks came from. The festivities will be planned."

Arne nodded. The onlookers went on to continue their activities, speaking about the fight. Arne went and followed Sophia. Ragnar and his children stayed behind, watching everything unfold.
