Death

Sophia eyed Maja, who held her crying newborn son; so many thoughts trailed her mind, but her son's safety was her primary concern. "Wh-What are you going to do with my son?"

"I will not kill him since he is important. Ragnar will live through this, but you must die for the prophecy to come true."

Estrid stood by her best friend, trying to process what was happening, and noticed the five Vikings slowly approaching the cave. "W-Wait a minute. You said there would be three Kings; who is the third?"

"It will be from Ragnar's bloodline. There is also another prophecy that I have dreamt of: he will have many sons. However, seeing Sophia, she will never be able to give him the many sons that he needs."

"I-I don't care what happens to me. I want my son, and I want the people to walk out of here alive."

Estrid's eyes widened with horror. "Sophia, I will not leave you here to die!" She looked at the older woman with anger and hurt. "You are insane, Maja! You-"

Maja began to walk out with the crying infant. "I have no time to argue with you." She looked at the Vikings and nodded to them. "Kill them, and make certain that there is no one comes out alive."

The men were about to enter the cave, but everyone heard someone scream at them. "SOPHIA!"

The young woman stilled as she recognized who called out to her. "ARNE! PLEASE HELP US! MAJA IS THE TRAITOR!"

Maja turned and saw Arne running toward the cave with the weapon. She pointed at him. "Kill him!"

Two Vikings went toward Arne. Arne saw them approaching him, and he stopped running as he got his weapon and shield ready. The first Viking attacked, and his weapon landed on the shield. Arne blocked the attack and moved his shield upward, making the first Viking lose his balance. Arne took the opportunity and stabbed him in the stomach, making the Viking groan in pain and fall to the ground. The second Viking used the chance to run to Arne's side and then threw an axe that he hid behind his back.

Arne was surprised but blocked the axe, but barely; the tip almost struck him in the face. As he was about to put the shield down, he was kicked down to the ground, and the second Viking got his sword and was about to stab him. Sophia and Estrid saw this but could do nothing since other armed men were blocking their way. "ARNE!" cried Sophia as Estrid held onto her.

Suddenly, everyone was quiet as the second Viking did not strike. Instead, his eyes widened as he looked down at his chest. There was an arrow that hit him in the chest. He and everyone were confused about where the arrow came from. Maja's eyes widened when she saw a figure slowly walking toward her and the others. "It can't be! How did you-!?"

"Brynhild sent me a message and insisted I come here and fight. At first, I did not want to, but it would be a good opportunity to kill Itzvar."

Sophia looked relieved and surprised. "Lagertha, I am so happy that you are here!"

Lagertha got another arrow and put it on the bow, pointing it toward another Viking. "I will allow you to leave if you want to live. You can go home to your families and avoid Itzvar's control. That woman over there does not care whether you live or die." Suddenly, more people came out from trees with bows and arrows pointing at the enemy. The remaining Vikings knew they were outnumbered and couldn't defeat everyone. They put their weapons down and then ran away from the cave, and the battle was happening afar.

However, the infant's cries echoed, and all eyes were on Maja with the child. Sophia walked out of the cave and toward the older woman. She felt her blood trail down from her entrance, staining her dress. "Give me, my son, Maja! He will not play a part in some ridiculous prophecy!"

Maja noticed that everyone was slowly closing in on her and knew that she would not be able to escape, and the infant cried more and louder. She was so close and knew that the prophecy would come true. Maja noticed Sophia coming closer to her. "Please, give him back to me. My son does not need to die here. If I am to die, then you can kill me here and now."

Arne slowly stood up. "Sophia, do not speak such nonsense!"

He was ignored, and Sophia stood before the older woman and motioned out her arms as her blood-stained dress flowed with the air. "Do what you must, but I ask that my son come out of this unharmed."

Maja was quiet as she noticed everyone walking toward her. She closed her eyes and walked to Sophia, motioning her son back. The young woman slowly got her hands under her son, and he was given back in her arms. The infant boy eventually stopped crying and looked at his mother, who slowly had small tears in her eyes. Sophia looked at Maja and turned around to walk toward Estrid and the other group. While walking, Sophia did not know that Maja had a knife that she hid under her dress and on her right leg. Estrid's eyes widened, and she tried to run toward her friend. "SOPHIA, WATCH OUT!"

Lagertha and the rest were also shocked. Lagertha then pointed her arrow toward the older woman and shot it, hoping it would hit her target. Maja, however, ran forward, making the arrow missed its target. Sophia turned and saw Maja getting closer to her with the knife in hand. The young woman crouched down as she shielded her infant son from the attack. Maja threw the knife, but it didn't strike Sophia; it hit another target.

Maja's eyes widened when she saw who she struck, but she didn't have time to respond when one of Lagertha's shieldmaidens threw an arrow at her neck. Blood splurted from the strike, making her have trouble breathing. Maja felt her life slipping away, and she knelt on her knees, looking at the sky; she smiled and fell to the ground.

Maja was dead.

Sophia slowly looked up and saw who stood before her with the knife in his chest. "A-ARNE!"

Arne fell to the ground, and everyone ran toward him. Sophia gave her infant son to Estrid while she tended to Arne. The knife struck the top parts of Arne's heart, and he was slowly bleeding out. "I-I need cloth! Anyone, please give me cloth!" Some women ran inside the cave to see what she asked for. Arne coughed out blood while looking at Sophia, who put pressure on his wound. "D-Don't cl-close your eyes, Arne! You will be alright. I can help you!" Blood still trailed down from his wound and hands.

Arne looked at Sophia, who cried tears for him. He hated that he couldn't do more for her and didn't fight more for her. "I-I am happy that I get to see you for one last time, Sophia. I-I hope that we will see one another in Valhalla."

The young woman shook her head. "N-No, don't say such things! You will live!" Lagertha and the others surrounded the two, looking at the sight. Lagertha looked at Arne and knew what would happen; she closed her eyes and shook her head. A woman brought Sophia some cloth, and Sophia put it over the wound to stop the blood.

Arne looked at the sky where raindrops hit his face; he looked at Sophia. "I love you." His eyes then became motionless. Sophia noticed this and began to move him, begging him to wake up. Sophia hit him and tried to motivate him to move but got nothing. The young woman wailed as thunder was heard in the cloudy skies.

Arne was dead.
