Höðr's Daughter - Part 3 - Björn x Reader

(Y/n) listened as the young man explained how he had come to find himself out in the winter wilderness; about how he wished to prove himself. To show that he was capable and could survive and thrive independently, even in the harshest of conditions. That he could overcome whatever challenges might come his way, showing that he was no longer a boy, but a man in his own right. Björn then going on to tell her about Kattegat and his mother and father; about Flóki and his boats, and even Athelstan, while enjoying the venison that the daughter of Höðr had offered him, now that the animal was cooked. He not sure whether it was the deer or the hare stew that was better; but either way, he had a feeling if the beautiful woman with him ever took a husband, the man would become rather large, very quickly thanks to her cooking. The son of Ragnar smiling at (Y/n) as she came to join him back at the fire.

In truth, he knew that he should leave; it hardly surviving by his own wits, when he was taking advantage of someone else's hospitality. But as much as he knew that he should make his way back to his old cabin; the warmth, light and smells of (Y/n)'s home, were keeping him in his spot next to the fire. That, and he feared that if he left, he would never see the daughter of the god of winter and darkness, again. That if he so much as moved from his place by the happily crackling fire, he would wake to find himself in the snow, freezing and starving as he had failed to catch anything to eat, once again. The huntress just a glorious delirium brought on by the cold and hunger. A part of the young Northman wondering what his father would do if he were to find himself in a similar situation. If it were Ragnar that was in the wilderness and had come upon a goddess; would he have stayed or gone.

"Are you still hungry. Do you want more..........?" Björn looking up to see the breathtaking being offering him more of the sliced, cooked meat.

"No, but thank you. You have been too kind already; I cannot take more from you........."

"You have gifted me with your company, Björn son of Ragnar. For that, it is I that should be thanking you. It is rare that I get to speak to another being, to hear their stories. Your tales of your home have made me long to see it; to be able to look out over the waters of the fjord, as the sunlight plays on its gentle waves. Perhaps when winter is gone, I will find my way there and watch as the boats built by your friend, sail away to find new lands............."

"If you do, I would be honoured to be your guide. I am sure that my father, that Flóki would like to meet you........." Björn replied. His eyes never leaving those of the daughter of the blind god. The young warrior wanting nothing more than to reach out and touch her; to find out what her lips would taste like. How a goddess might feel compared to a mortal woman.

"I should leave.......I have taken up too much of your time........" Björn quickly getting to his feet as he remembered why he had made his way into the wilds in the first place.

"You have taken no time at all, son of Ragnar. And even though I know you wish to prove yourself, perhaps you will take a little advice from someone who knows winter better than most......" Björn nodding as the goddess made her way over to where she had left his large fur coat, some hours before.

"On the east side of the hills, there is a part of the river that is still flowing. It will make for easy fishing. And if you bring your snare traps a little further down the slope, you will have a better chance of catching rabbits and hares........" She explained, as she helped the Northman on with his heavy coat.

"Though if you are still unlucky, you now know where to find me. There always a warm fire and hot meal waiting for you if you should need." Björn turning to look at her; he chuckling as she reached up and pulled the hood over his head, the two making their way to the door. (Y/n) opening the heavy wooden ingress to find that snow had piled up high around the cabin, while they had been talking. And the snow that was falling from the sky, suddenly became so thick and whipped around so fiercely that neither Björn nor (Y/n) could see any distance. A smile coming to his lips as he and the huntress pushed closed the door. A wild flurry of white, blowing its way into the cabin, before the ingress was eventually closed.

"Well.....it would appear that the allfather has other plans for you, Björn. Not even I would step foot out in such a storm. I fear that you would get lost in the blizzard, even after only a few steps outside of my home. And it is hard to prove yourself as a man, if you freeze to death first......." (Y/n) continued, as she brushed the snow from her hair, and Björn removed his hood. It appearing that as she said, Odin did indeed have other plans for him at that moment. That for some reason, the great god wished him to stay with his granddaughter. That his time to prove himself worthy as a man, could wait; for who was he to argue with the will of the gods. The Earl's son happily letting her help him remove his coat again, before following the winter goddess back to the fire.
