4- Broken beyond repair
I watch as the arrow flies into one of the crates and explodes on impact. Explosive arrows?! I think, astonished by what I've just seen. I look at Icebreaker and he shoots me a grin.
I turn my attention towards the bad guys, and I watch them try to take cover from the flames and oncoming sparks flying out of the box.
The Super Villain teleports out of the warehouse, and I watch as a man scans the warehouse to find the culprit, and he stops on us. "Shit," I hear Icebreaker say behind me, "Hey kid, you wanna be a hero? Take them down and destroy the serum. Good luck." After saying 'luck', Icebreaker flies out of the warehouse and leaves me to fight the men.
I look around the area for a rope and end up finding a thin black cord. I tie it to the end of an arrow and draw my bow back. I aim the arrow towards the ground, but now where I can hit the men. I release the arrow and it wedges itself into the wall. I put my bow on the newly-made zip-line and slide down it.
I land on the cold, hard ground, and I feel the concrete shake underneath my feet. The trio of men look at me and fire their guns, and with my super speed I manage to dodge all of the bullets. I throw myself at one of the men and punch him. He flies across the room, and I then move on to the next one. Before I can punch him, a loud Bang! goes off. I whip around and, before I can react, a spray of bullets fly through my body.
I hunch over from the pain and feel tons of heat leaving my body. My vision fills with flames, and I can hear the men screaming in agony. It takes me a minute to see what happened to them, and when I finally regain my sight I wish I had it taken away. The ground was charred, and their corpses were black and gray.
I stare at the carnage around me, and before I can react I hear the sound of police cars. "Crap," I say weakly, "I need to get to a hospital."
I slowly hobble out of the warehouse, the shadows as my shield. I limp to where my stolen-bike is, but to no avail it isn't there. Must've been stolen, I think my mind feeling like it's going to explode.
Next thing I know, a bolt of electricity is shot down towards my feet. "Robin Hood," Shockwave says, "What the hell are you doing? You killed three innocent men for no reason!"
"No..." I manage to say weakly, "I...it's hard to explain." Before I can get another word out, I collapse to the ground.
"I'm going to have to tell the police," Shockwave says calmly.
"Shockwave," I manage to say weakly, "I'm not a bad guy, I just need a chance to prove myself."
"Being a hero isn't trying to do great things, it's about owning up to the things you do." Shockwave yells, shooting a bolt of lightning at me.
With the last of my strength, I pull myself up and run towards the hotel. Before I can get five steps, I hear Shockwave yell, "Aaron don't you run away!" I stop dead in my tracks, and I the realize that he knows who I am.
It wasn't a very fast run though, and I don't even think you could have called it a run. Every five seconds I was leaning up against a wall, hoping not to throw up my intestines.
After about three hours, I end up at the hotel. I slowly open up the hotel door, and saw Tim drunk as ever. I push the elevator button, and thankfully it was ready in under a second. I push the button to go to the 25th floor, and once the door shuts I decompress. I feel the blood oozing out of my body, and I see that my hood is dark-red, and how it's also accompanied by bullet holes.
The elevator dings! and I immediately hop off. I hobble towards our door, but fatigue washes over me. I fall into the wall, and I hear a shriek come from inside the hotel room.
I lean on the wall and maneuver towards the door, and once I reach it I forcefully break it down. I hear Bella shriek again, and I hear her cock back a gun her parents gave her.
"It's...it's me. I'm finally back," I say, shutting the door. Before I can comprehend anything else, I fall onto the ground and my vision darkens.
----------------------------------
When I finally wake up, I see that Bella is hovering over me with a worried look on her face. "You're up!" She says, hugging me.
I scream in agony, and Bella immediately lets go. She composes herself, and says, "Right, you're obviously hurt. Somehow you're alive, even though you've taken 34 bullets to the region of you're stomach, including arms, legs, and pelvic region. The bullets went straight through, so there's nothing that I have to pull out."
I immediately blush at that, and I say, "Can you fix me up then? I can't risk going to a hospital." I watch as she applies anesthetic and puts it onto a cotton ball.
She dabs the cotton ball on my chest, and I barely feel a thing. I grab the bottle of anesthetic and dump it over my body, and I feel my body scream in agony.
"What the hell are you doing Aaron?" Bella says, taking the bottle of anesthetic away from me. She throws it at a wall and it shatters.
I watch as Bella takes a bandage and wraps it around the wounds, and I watch as the white turns into a deep shade of red. "Bella..." I manage to say weakly, "Do you know what you're doing?"
"Yes Arron, I do," Bella snaps at me, "Did you know what you were doing when you got shot? No, I didn't think so. So shut up!" She wraps the bandages quicker, and I wince as it compresses the wounds.
Bella goes on treating my wounds, and in that time we don't speak a word. One repeating thought that keeps going through my mind is the fact that she now knows-along with Shockwave.
How does he even know anyway? Did Icebreaker tell him, or did he just guess from the meeting in the alleyway?
"Okay," Bella says exhausted, "you're all patched up, but it's still going to hurt like a bitch. Try and stay in bed, and don't get up unless need be." She takes the blood-stained materials and washes them off in the bathroom, and then she walks back into the room.
"So Aaron, can we talk about this whole 'superhero' thing?" She says, sitting on the bed. I watch as her blonde hair falls to her face, and then she tucks it behind her ear.
"Yeah, shoot away," I say, falling for her charm. I try and sit myself up, but when I do a sharp pain shoots through my lower stomach.
Bella immediately jumps to my rescue and says, "Aaron it's okay, just lie down. How about I talk for now? I'll try and tell you something to keep your interest."
"Sure," I say, nuzzling myself into my comfy pillow.
"I actually need to tell you something," Bella says, her expression turning darker. "So remember how Mom and Dad attended that meeting over in Los Angeles?"
"Yeah," I say, sitting up. I wince through the pain and try and keep my attention focused on Bella. As I watch her eyes dart away from mine, I'm filled with a huge amount of dread. "What happened?"
"It's...Its awful," Bella says, sobbing, her mascara running down her cheeks.
"Bella, what happened?" I say in a softer and kinder voice, hoping that being nice will get her to open up.
"Supers," she says, "They've kidnapped our parents and nobody knows where they went. They also captured tons of other important politicians and business leaders, but they don't want word to get out because people will immediately assume terrorism and go to war against one another."
"Oh..." I say, trying to think of something to say to tell her that I'm sorry. "Wait, how do you know this?"
"That's another thing I wanted to tell you. But I think it's better if I show you." She stands up and maneuvers her body behind the bed and pushes me into her room.
"Your room? What's so special about it?" I asked confused, wondering what her big secret is.
"Just wait," Bella says with a smirk on her face. She pushes a button on her drawer, and it feels like everything folds together.
In place of a solid-pink teenage-girly room is a solid gray room with computers lined up against the wall, monitors on top of it that watch each room of the apartment, and an office chair to quickly maneuver around in. On the back wall is a punching bag, a weight set, and a small archery range, which was completely stocked with different brands of arrows, as well as strong bows for impaling people.
On the right wall is a large, metallic tube with a mannequin in the middle. Before I can question it, a familiar voice says, "It's where you put your costume Aaron."
I whip around my head and say, "Tom?!" I immediately feel a sharp pain in my neck and wince.
"Hey, how are you feeling?" He says, motioning for me to sit down on an office char next to him. Until that moment, I hadn't even realized that I was standing.
"Eh, it hurts like taking 34 bullets to the stomach." I smile at the joke I made, but in the back of my mind I realize that this is no joking matter.
Now three people know who I am, and one of them is a Super obsessed with trying to tell the press the truth.
What have I gotten myself into?
