Chapter 1: Awakening
Hà Nội, Socialist Republic of Vietnam
308th Division Headquarters
June 28th, 2028; 13:00 Hà Nội Time
The sky was a clear day, and the usual Hà Nội heat in the summer made the place unbearable to the point where you could boil an egg on the cement road. In the base where the famed 308th Division were stationed, an exercise was being conducted as combat readiness training. All the soldiers knew of how their neighbor up north, the People's Republic of China, was getting more aggressive on the Vietnamese coast and the Biển Đông or East Sea as tensions remained high. A few weeks ago, another Vietnamese ship got sunk by a Chinese coast guard ship, just off of Đạ Nẵng.
"Ready!" A Senior Lieutenant looked to his men under his command, while raising a red flag in the air and sweating under the heat even with a mũ cối or pith helmet on to provide some shade to his head.
The soldiers racked the bolts of their STV-380s back, quickly checking the amount of bullets in a few milliseconds. The sweat from their hands mixed with the grease from the newer rifles made their grip more loose than usual.
"Fire!" The lieutenant raised down the flag, signaling the order to unload their weapons.
Aiming down their MARS sights, with targets down a range of 400 meters, the soldiers fired their STV-380s in the method of Điểm xạ: a Vietnamese firing method that consists of two round bursts. The theory behind this being that semi-automatic fire is accurate, but slower rate of fire, while fully-automatic fire has a higher rate of fire, but at the cost of accuracy. Firing in two round bursts would give the soldier a high volume of fire as well the accuracy needed to hit enemies. And it worked.
"Cease. Firing!" Walking up to the paper targets, he inspected the bullet holes and their markings.
"Almost all perfect shots...good job" He smiled back at the soldiers, who were giving thumbs up in acknowledgement.
Near the general vicinity, the commanding officer of the 308th, Senior Colonel Trường Văn Cường, drinking his coffee and inspecting the papers he was assigned to by the Hà Nội Capital City Command.
"Another day, another workload I have to sort through..." Colonel Cường sighed as he sipped more into his coffee.
"I don't get paid enough to do this..." He thought to himself.
The Colonel was only in his late 20s, unusually young for his age to be at such a high rank. Due to his tactical prowess, he was ushered up the ranks of the 308th, reaching the rank of Senior Colonel just last year. Although he was an intelligent person, the workload that comes along with it was more enormous than when he first stepped off as a Second Lieutenant after graduating from the military academy. Since then, he remained around the outskirts of Hà Nội, only traveling elsewhere for important business. Like what he just caught under his eye.
"A drug smuggling ring near the border? This shouldn't be in my area." He looked down at the last few sentences.
"Also smuggling around Hà Nội, and the only way is to stop a deal from happening in a few hours near the border...and the results could be a disaster if it goes ahead?" Pondering on his next move, he decided to just go so that he doesn't have his superior breathe down his neck.
Walking down the steps, another person could be seen standing down the stairs. He was waiting for his superior, Colonel Cường, to give orders by the name of Captain Lương Văn Thánh. Part of the 1st Special Forces Brigade attached under the 308th, stationed in Thanh Trì district, he was in charge of a unit doing operations relating to drug smuggling, as their primary role of counterrorism was not needed at the time being.
"Dạ Đồng Chí Đại Tá. (Comrade Senior Colonel, sir.)" Captain Lương saluted quickly.
"Đồng Chí Đại Úy. (Comrade Captain.)" Colonel Cường did the same.
"Báo cáo, Đơn vị sẵn sàng cho cuộc hành. Xin phép thực hiện các lệnh trong giám sát của đồng chí Đại Tá. (Reporting, unit is ready for operation. Permission to give orders under your supervision)," Captain Lương reported.
"Được phép. Thực hiện các lệnh của Bộ Tham Mưu. Mình sẽ đi theo giám sát. (Permission granted. Carry out the orders from high command. I will come to supervise the men under your command)," The Senior Colonel replied back.
"Rõ. Báo cáo, hết. (Understood. Report, end.)" The Captain cut his salute as soon as the Colonel did.
Both stepped back to their offices to kit up. Captain Lương, in the bunks where his unit is located, sets his gear on the bed to inspect. This includes high quality gear such as the Ops Core helmet and a US plate carrier. Donning them on, he checks his standard issued STV-380, putting the bolt up to see any dirt or mud that could've gotten in, before racking it back to a firing position. By the time he was done, his unit was outside with their STVs slung over their right shoulder, magazine wrapping around their necks.
"Alright, the mission is as follows: we are to intercept a deal happening 3 hours from now, with the arrest of the drug smugglers so we can interrogate them and put an end to this drug ring. Any questions?" Lương looked for anyone who was unsure of what followed, to which he got no response back.
"No questions? Chứ ý! Nhiễm! (Stand at attention!)" He looked at the unit as they stood to attention.
"Quay lại, quay! (About face!)" The soldiers did exactly as he ordered.
"Tiến hành! (Forward!)" His order gave the signal for the soldiers to run to their GAZ Tigrs, in a rush to get near the Sino-Vietnamese border in Quảng Ninh Province, a two hour long drive.

Quảng Ninh Province
Cảnh Sát Cơ Động (Mobile Police)
15:30 Hà Nội time
Two Toyota Innovas carrying the number 14 at the front of their licenses, the number for a registered vehicle of Quảng Ninh province, approach each other in the dense forests surrounding the mountains near the Sino-Vietnamese border. One group of men opened their doors for their "Đại Ca (mafia boss)", along with a suspicious briefcase; another group, with one of their top drug lords, armed with a M92 pistol that he got from abroad, also had the same suspicious briefcase. These men were part of separate drug smuggling rings operating near the border with China in northern Vietnam, hence why there were some Chinese men in the two groups as well, with older Type 56s slung near their waist, in case any mischief among the two groups broke out.
The drug lord came out to greet the Đại Ca, with a hint of antagonism, as they were dealing with a rival drug gang that previously attacked them in the past. His lackeys were even more agitated, holding onto the sides of their pants where their pistols were hidden.
"Hàng đâu? (Where's the package?)" The Đại Ca questioned.
"Tiền đâu? (Where's the money?)" The drug lord replied back.
"Xem hàng để có tiền. (Let me check the package, then the money comes.)"
The Đại Ca motioned for one of the lackeys to bring the money to the drug lord. In exchange, he received the "package", which was heroin. Checking for authenticity, he licked part of it. As for the drug lord, when he was given the money, he "kissed" one stack of 500,000 Vietnamese Đồng bills.
"Is that what you wanted?" The Đại Ca was anxious as the police could show up at any time, even in a secluded space where no one could've possibly been found. He didn't get enough time to react though as some Cảnh Sát Cơ Động (CSCĐ) officers and Lương's special forces unit swarmed them.
"Tất cả đứng im! (Everyone, stand still!)"
"Cảnh sát đấy!" (Police!)"
A green Isuzu truck carrying more men rolled along from behind, using loudspeakers against the drug lackeys.
"Tất cả giải tấn, yêu cầu bỏ súng xuống! (Disperse, and put your weapons down!)"
The Chinese lackeys started firing their Type 56s, but instead got shot by some of Lương's men, falling down to the soft dirt with a thud, rifles still in hand. Some of the other gang members did the same with their pistols, but were also either gunned down or hit in the face with STVs without firing a shot. The most stubborn was the drug lord, immediately running, as well as picking up a fallen Chinese lackey's Type 56 and ducking behind a tree. He fired some shots off at the officers and operators, somehow scraping off the body armor of one policeman, but not injuring him. As for everyone else, they were running off in random directions, hoping to not get caught by the police.
"Chung tôi sẽ giết hại, yêu cầu bỏ súng xuống, đứng lên đầu hàng!" The truck made its stop and more policemen jumped down from the back of its cargo space to subdue more of the drug groups' members.
Eventually, the chase ended with the last gang member getting smacked in the face and kicked to the ground by an STV from a policeman, while the rest started to arrest the gang members with handcuffs. Orders of "Giơ tay lên! (Hands up!)" and "Khoanh sâu! (Hands behind your back!)" filled the forest before the members were led to the center, where the two vehicles they had got out of were. All of them were made to kneel with the orders of "Mình xuống! (Down!)" by the operators and policemen. Soon Senior Colonel Cường and Captain Lương showed up to inspect the carnage in front of them.
"Đồng chí Lương, cho bảo vệ hiện trường, lập biên bản, thu giết tăng vật. Gọi xe cấp cứu, giải quyết thương vọng. (Comrade Lương, do scene protection, kill any remaining suspects with guns if they shoot back. Call emergency vehicles to deal with the wounded.)
"Rõ. (Understood.)"
As soon as Captain Lương scanned the area, a bright blue flash was made, along with the ground rumbling, a bit small and not as noticeable as Japanese earthquakes would go. As soon as it stopped, they all began to check their phones, with the gang members being as equally confused as the policemen and operators.
"Sir! Our mobile networks seem to still be working, however it's stuttering every few seconds!" The policeman checking his phone was anxious.
"Mine has the same problem too, Comrade Senior Colonel," Lương confirmed to Cường.
The Senior Colonel was pondering what to do next in this critical moment.
"Call the President and General Secretary, make sure they know of this," Cường ordered to the anxious policeman.
"Rõ! (Understood!)"

Qua Toyne Principality
Central Calendar Year 1637, February 27th, 08:00
The 6th Wyvern Squadron was doing a daily patrol run over the skies of the Qua Toyne Principality. Riding in their signature wyverns, a creature with black wings and a sharp tail that was similar to dragons described in folklore back on Earth, they were the pride of the Qua Toynians. You could even say they were the tip of the spear.
A man wearing lightly protected armor for mobility was riding his wyvern through the majestic blue skies of the New World. His name was Maarpatima, a Dragon Knight. He was marveling at the scenery being presented in his surroundings. The vast blue seas provided for a sense of comfort over the looming threat of a potential invasion from Qua Toyne's neighbor, the Lourian Kingdom, a nation that discriminates against other non-human races. Through intelligence reports, it was concluded that this region he was patrolling was a place where the Lourians could launch a sneak attack to penetrate the Qua Toynian defenses.
As he was patrolling, a faint noise was coming from the west. He continued to ignore it and go on his way, until the noise grew louder and rattled his ears. Finally giving up on his ignorance of the sound, he decided to go investigate. What he found was a whole other beast.
"What is that?!"
The strange object flew faster than he first would've believed. The body was in a blue color, mixed with a hint of white enveloping the blue. Its wings and tails have a strange emblem marked with a yellow star, surrounded with a circle and two bars, colored red. On the edge of its left tail and the seating compartment, bore the number "9621", also in a red color. Maarpatima quickly got out his magic communication, commonly referred to as a magicom, in a frantic scramble.
"HQ, I've encountered an unidentified target! In pursuit of identification now!" He yelled over the comms.
"Understood, follow the target and report back." The control tower back in HQ was monitoring the situation as it unfolded.
Since the flying object hadn't changed its attitude, the wyvern rider was able to close the distance between the flying object and his wyvern. In this world, the wyvern was considered the best object of their military and the pride of their nation. However, even with the wyvern's maximum speed of 235 km/h, it couldn't catch up to this flying object, which itself has a maximum speed of 2,778 km/h. The smoke coming from the back, as well as the flames left him wondering what it was powered by. Just as he was spotting the one in front, another soared past him, flying in formation with the first, starling his wyvern and almost losing balance. Both objects went even faster away from him, becoming small specks of blue in the sky before Maarpatima could even begin to realize it.
"That must be the wingman...," He thought to himself.
Both objects went even faster, becoming small specks of blue in the distance before Maarpatima could even begin to realize it. He picked up his comms again.
"Another flying object similar to the first one is flying past! They're too fast for my wyvern to catch up! The objects have to be at least 500 kilometers per hour and are headed towards Maihark! Repeat, the flying objects are headed towards Maihark!"
"Understood. Break off and return to base," The control tower's operator said.
And so Maarpatima broke off and returned with his wyvern back to HQ.

The base was in full on pandemonium, especially with the communication operator who received Maarpatima's call, Katima.
"Ma'am! According to Maarpatima the flying objects are only 130 kilometers from our base! The objects are too fast to pursue and don't flap any wings! Those objects can reach Maihark faster than we can deploy our wvyerns!" A panicked operator yelled out.
"Damn it! What's the nationality of the objects?!" Kaima asked while looking at a map of Qua Toyne.
"Unknown! We can't confirm if this is a Lourian weapon or an elder dragon!"
"Continue investigating! We have to find out if they are enemies!"
The base commander decided it was a good time to enter into the chaotic base control room.
"What the hell is going on?! Have you found out what those unknown objects are?!" The base commander is also sweating from the stress.
"No, sir! We have only confirmed that the flying objects are headed towards Maihark at a speed faster than our wyverns can catch up to!" Kalina answered back.
"And it doesn't flap its wings?" He started to panic more.
"No, sir."
"Then launch all the other knights! We need to find out if those flying objects are scouts or attack wyverns! Our country is at stake!"
"Understood!"
The order for immediate deployment is given to the rest of the Dragon Knights of the 6th Wyvern Squadron. The order itself was simple: find the flying objects headed for Maihark violating Qua Toyian airspace and shoot it down. A sortie of 12 Dragon Knights were assembled on the runway as the unknown flying objects soared past them, their roars sounding louder than the wyverns they had. Mutters of shock and awe were heard from each of the Dragon Knights.
Their captain was also as anxious as the rest of the Dragon Knights, and once they were in the air, he gave them the order to fire off a large fireball to send at the flying objects' direction.
"Fire those fireballs! Now!"
The 12 Dragon Knights did exactly just that, but the fireballs fell short before the wyverns had to disengage and return to base.

Skies above Qua Toyne
Central Calendar Year 1637, February 27th, 07:30
927th "Lam Sơn" Fighter Regiment
"-The land sure looks beautiful from up here," A Vietnamese pilot said.
The unknown objects that were going to scare the Qua Toyians were Sukhoi Su-35s. Newly acquired from the Russians, they provided for more of a level playing field for the Vietnamese Air Defense-Air Force against their Chinese neighbors using the same model of Su-30 as the Vietnamese and Chengdu J-10s. Sporting the iconic blue camouflage, the Su-35s bearing the numbers 9621 and 9637 were ordered to sortie out from Kép Air Base, the home of the 927th "Lam Sơn" Fighter Regiment, stationed in Bắc Giang near the capital. These two pilots had the objective of quickly using their fighters to scan what they had gotten themselves into, as they had lost communication to Asian countries such as South Korea and Japan.
"It seems we may not be on Earth anymore..." The 9637 pilot concluded.
"Which means that the anime I watched was real!" The 9621 pilot laughed.
"You mean GATE? Well it seems like our whole country got summoned, not just a single gate."
"Well if the whole country is summoned, it's starting to sound like that one novel I read of the entire country of Japan getting isekai'd."
"Hard to say, but I can guess that you are right. Anyways, let's get the recon and get out of here."
The Su-35s sped up to cruising speed, noting any terrains they saw. So far they only found forests upon forests, much like home, along with some fertile farmland in which little specks of people were seen farming in the morning hours.
"Heh, looks to be grain farms. Typical western style." The 9637 pilot chuckled at the sight presented to him, remembering the time he went to Ukraine before the Russians invaded to sightsee and as part of an international exercise.
"They look fertile as well. I wonder how rice would grow on it. Hm..." Pondering about the prospect, the 9621 pilot wondered how they would get more food, as although Vietnam was mostly self-sufficient to begin with, they still had to import certain foodstuffs in small quantities, such as grain for making bread.
"Well that should solve some food issues. However I don't think this is our land or airspace to begin with, considering we just passed Lào Cai. We are close though, it only took us 13 minutes."
"Maybe it has something to do with being neighbors. Otherwise we wouldn't have gotten here so fast."
Something strange in the sky appeared in the sky in front of them, so they both decided to take a closer look. Upon finding out however, they were shocked even as being fans of anime isekais themselves.
"That's a damn wyvern! Which means," The 9621 pilot said, while in awe.
"Magic exists in this world. There has got to be no possible way this is a world similar to ours if they have wyverns," The 9637 pilot confirmed.
Both pilots nodded their hands, zooming past the unsuspecting wyvern and heading back to Kép before the local air force could do anything to stop them.
