9 | yerba pt 2

     We were at the airport and I was a little stressed. I love traveling and seeing new places, but I don't like flying. I think it has something to do with the altitude because I always feel sick after a couple of hours, and Yerba is way more than a couple of hours away. We were waiting for the flight to board and I was shaking my leg like I always do when I'm anxious. I was scrolling through my feed on The Slap and I felt a hand on my knee. I stopped shaking my leg and looked to my right. "You're shaking." Beck said and moved his hand. I smiled, shaking my head. "You okay?"

     "No. But I will be when we land." I replied.

     "It'll be fine. Did you take your-"

     "Yes, Dad." I said sarcastically and leaned back in my chair. Beck rolled his eyes and Jade came back from getting the snacks.

     "You're back!" He said and she sat in his lap.

     "L, I got you this." She said handing me a bottle of water.

     "Thanks." I replied.

     The plane ride felt like forever. I ended up buying wifi because I was so bored. Everyone was asleep, but I can't sleep on planes. Neither can Beck. "Looks like you drew the short straw. You're stuck with Trina." He said quietly, trying not to wake up the sleeping Trina sat a seat away from me. The plane was big there were three seats on either side and four seats in the middle section. Trina and I were on the right side of the plane. I had the window seat. I closed my computer.

     "Thank god there's an empty seat between us. I might've actually killed her. Did you know that Trina sings in her sleep? Even asleep she doesn't shut up." I replied and he laughed.

     "Jade snores. Don't tell anyone she'd kill me."

     "My lips are sealed." I replied laughing. Beck stepped over Trina and sat in the empty seat.

     "Can we talk about how you and Jade went from hating each other to being best friends? I'm not complaining, I just have a feeling that it's the calm before the storm."

     "That's because it is. Be careful, Beck. We're going to someplace no one has ever heard about on the other side of the world. Perfect place for someone to mysteriously disappear and never come back."

     "Shut up." He said pushing my shoulder jokingly.

     "Don't worry, it would probably be me." I replied laughing. "Your best friend and girlfriend are getting along. Why is that a bad thing? You said it yourself: we have a lot in common. Turns out that you were right."

     "I missed you so much, I hate that I had to move here."

     "It's not your fault your dad got transferred." I replied and looked down at my hands.

     "Liv?" He asked I hummed in response, still not looking back at him. "We never talked about what happened after I left. Your parents would call me at least once a month asking if I had heard from you, or knew where you were." He paused. "Who's Kai?"

     "Beck..." I trailed.

     "Liv, I'm not going to let it go. They were really worried about you. I was really worried about you."

     "Can't we just be happy about me being here and that we're hanging out right now? What happened doesn't matter anymore." I looked up at him meeting his eyes. I could tell he was hurt that I wouldn't open up to him. But how could I? I can't even admit certain things to myself.

     "It matters to me. I've known you since we were born, and I know when something's wrong. You have a look in your eyes. I can tell that you want to tell me something but you're scared to. You shouldn't be scared to tell me anything. We're best friends, Liv. We always have been and we always will be. I know you better than I know myself. Please tell me." I shook my head and tried to hold back the tears that were trying to form in my eyes. "I hate that you put this wall up, please let me in. I love you, Liv." I looked down and bit my bottom lip lightly to stop it from quivering. I shook my head again, and he intertwined our fingers. I looked up at him and looked into his eyes. We started to slowly lean towards each other. Our foreheads were an inch away from touching. Trina moved in her sleep, we both pulled away quickly and I sat back in my seat.

     "Go back to Jade, Beck." He got up and took one last look at me before walking behind the curtain, into the other section of the plane. I sighed and opened my computer again. I was on Instagram, looking at Kai's account. I clicked on his recent photo of him with a girl on his back. I went on the tags and clicked on the girl's name, Danielle Parker. I scrolled through her account because it was public, which was a good thing but also a bad thing. She had so many beautifully aesthetic photos and, of course, she was an Instagram model with thousands of followers. She was even verified. They traveled around the world together. I decided that it was best if I stopped Instagram stalking my ex and his new perfect girlfriend. I closed the tabs and then my computer and looked out the window for the rest of the flight.

     We finally landed in Yerba, after one of the longest flights I had ever been on. I felt like I was on that tin can for a whole year. We got to the hotel— if you can even call it a hotel. I guess it wasn't too bad. It did have walls and a ceiling, for the most part. It looked really exciting on the website, but it didn't take long before I noticed that the picture of the beach is just a picture that's hanging in the front lobby. I wanted to make the most of my spring break, considering that plane ride was hell and I'd rather be in this 'hotel' than on that thing again right after I was finally free. I think Festus tricked us because it wasn't anything like Hawaii. I'd rather be staying inside of an active volcano than here. I wasn't the only one having these thoughts. Everyone's blaming Tori for ruining their vacation. Clearly, she was the one to blame for all of this but that doesn't make it any better. She's stuck staying in this place too, and it doesn't help that her friends are making it worse. She had no idea what she was getting into— getting us into. No one did. We couldn't even imagine what was waiting for us on this trip.

~~~
     We were sleeping in a crumbling building, in the middle of a warzone. We also got arrested and locked in jail. But, I never would've guessed that all of that wouldn't be the worst part of the trip.
