Chapter 23

And then there was this next chapter that I almost forgot to save...

The decent back to the base of the mountain that Red lived on was a full day's journey. The few days they took to gather their strength and form a strategy were nothing short of relieving. It was surprisingly calm those three days even with Mewtwo being so close by through the use of Crystal. Gold took it upon himself to make sure she didn't do anything suspicious so that (y/n) didn't have to.

"How far from here is Pallet Town?" Gold asked. They were flying there now that the threat of blizzards was no longer relevant. Red flew with his Charizard while everyone else took Reshiram. The group had left before sunrise to avoid as much attention as possible. "It's the place of your demise. Why would you want to know so badly?" Crystal spoke. Of course, it was actually Mewtwo speaking through her instead of it actually being Crystal.

"We should get there in about an hour or two. Hopefully that will be before the sun rises," (y/n) answered. She was growing tired of Mewtwo's remarks. It bothered her so much that she would much rather put up with Crystal's usual unnecessary statements than Mewtwo's detrimental words. "Mew thinks we will get there faster than an hour. Reshiram flies faster than Mew was aware of." New was the one leading them to Pallet Town even though Red knew the way there.

"I just want this all to be over. I'd give almost anything to be back home right now," Silver muttered. He was resting his head in (y/n)'s lap. She could sense his anxiety growing as they got closer to their destination. "You and me both. Johto is paradise compared to this..." (y/n) agreed.

"Foolish humans. None of you are simply going home. You've all chosen to get in the way," Crystal growled. Gold rolled his eyes at her. "Whatever you say. I don't even care anymore," he muttered. Gold had been keeping Crystal in check since finding out that she was Mewtwo's pawn. He still treated her like she was just Crystal, but (y/n) could sense that he was deeply irritated that Mewtwo had taken over Crystal.

"It's actually kind of nice to think about going back home even if there's the possibility that we'll mever be able to go back," Silver said. (Y/n) could tell that he waa trying to keep his mind off of anything dealing with Green. Thinking of their motel room back in Ecruteak was one way of doing that. "Is that so? Then what did you have in mind? You had some kind of plan before coming here, right?" Gold muttered.

"Your efforts are useless. It will only lead to-" Crystal was saying. "Shut up already. We get it. Can't you just let us have a moment. You have some sort of sympathy in you somewhere or else you wouldn't be with Green right now," Gold snapped. Crystal glared at him. "I told you we should have knocked her out before leaving. This would have been a far less worrying flight," (y/n) sighed. She kept running her hand through Silver's hair. He seemed to be enjoying it just as much as she was.

"I actually didn't have a plan. Coming here was my plan. It just...kind of backfired," Silver muttered as if Crystal hadn't inturpted the conversation. "That sounds like you. Always doing things on impulse," Gold spoke with a smirk. "Shut up. I'm not impulsive. If anything, you are," Silver shot back. (Y/n) simply kept quiet and listened to them argue. It wasn't anything serious. Nothing more than as friendly quarrel.

"Weren't you two supposed to participate in the gym challenge? I know I declined, but you two still planned on doing that at some point, right?" (y/n) reminded. Her words stopped the argument and the boys fell silent. "I'm guessing you two already thought about that then," she said when niether of them spike about it.

"Crystal and I planned on going traveling just like you used to, (y/n)" Gold said to quicjly change the subject. "You and Crystal wouldn't last very long traveling together," Silver said. He also avoided the previous topic. "What's that supposed to mean?" Gold questioned. He seemed slightly offended. Silver didn't answer him, but Gold didn't ask again.

A somewhat comfortable silence settled in as they flew. They all just looked around at the cloudy, cool colored scenery. The sun would soon be peeking over the horizon, but for now, it seemed as if nighttime would go on forever. "Do you guys regret meeting me?" Silver suddenly asked. (Y/n) stared down at him as if he'd cursed for no reason. "Why are you asking a dumb question like that?" Gold immediately spoke.

"If you really think about it...all of this happened because I left Kamto to begin with. If none of you had met me..." Silver reasoned. He stopped speaking as his thought began to take over. (Y/n) could feel his feelings of regret, and she could tell that he was losing hope despite how hard he fought not to. "If I hadn't met you, I wouldn't be who I am today," Gold quietly muttered.

Silver and (y/n) looked at him in curiousity, but he didn't care to explain his words any further. "I don't want to think about what would have happened if you hadn't run into me that day," (y/n) said. Silver was one of the best parts of her life. The two of them were practically one after all of the time they had spent simply learning about one another.

"Sometimes I think I'd be much worse off without you around," Silver agreed. "Why do you think about stuff like that anyway? You're always doing that," Gold mentioned. He seemed upset about it. "I wonder who had a part in that? If I remember correctly, he used to think I was one of the worse people in the world, didn't he, Gold," Silver pointed out. "Do I need to remind you of how you almost got me killed?" Gold growled.

"Now isn't the time to be picking fights. Come on guys. We're about to end all of this. Please try to keep things possitive," (y/n) said to diffuse the situation. Silver sat up from her lap and leaned onto her shoulder. "I'm sorry," he apologized. Gold said nothing although (y/n) could sense his held back apology.

"Mew thinks Silver is too sad too much. (Y/n) is too worried to much. Gold is too jealous too much," Mew entered the conversation without warning. "I'm not jealous of anything," Gold quickly denied. He was certainly lying. (Y/n) often sensed his underlying jealousy, but she never knew what or who it was directed towards.

"You shouldn't assume things, Mew. I'm not sad all of the time. (Y/n) is only worried for good reason, and Gold doesn't get jealous. He doesn't have a reason for that when there's no one to compete with. If anything, he's a little arrogant," Silver spoke with a slight laugh. He was of course joking, but he didn't realize just how wrong he was.

After a while of a mix between silence, idle conversation, and Crystal's comments, they neared Pallet Town. From where they were in the sky, they had an entire view of the extremely small area. "This is where Red is from too, isn't it?" Gold asked. Hearing him speak, Red nodded in confirmation from where he was with Charizard. The quiet trainer had gotten a little lonely and flew a little closer within range of them after their initial conversation.

"Yeah, this is where Green used to visit before I left for Johto," Silver said. "This is it. Our last stop before heading home. I really don't want to stay in Kantor any longer than I need to. No offense Red. Your homeland is probably nice, but it hasn't been the best for us these past couple of weeks," (y/n) stated. Red just shrugged to indicate that there were no hard feelings. Maybe he didn't like Panto either. Or perhaps he had a similarly unpleasant experience in his homeland.

Just as they got ready to land outside of Pallet Town, Crystal spoke once more. "Now then...we can finally get started," she announced with a grin. It was disturbing to say the least. Psychic energy began to flood the area, and it was obvious that Mew wasn't the cause. "Mew thinks this is a bad idea," Mew voiced a bit too late. Within seconds, (y/n)'s surroundings changed and she was no longer near Pallet Town.

Everyone was gone and in front of her stood the one person she never ever wanted to see again. "Ghetsis..." she whispered. (Y/n) knew that it was only a mind trick, but it seemed so real. Team Plasma's hideout seemed so authentic. It was almost scary. "It's been a while, (y/n). How have you been?" he spoke. There was none of the impending betrayal evident in his voice. In fact, (y/n) couldn't sense anything at all. For the first time in a while, she felt absolutely terrified.
