48.

Sweet shimmered on your forehead as you jumped out of reach of the fists that came chasing down on you. Lucky enough these huge mountains were not armed with anything but a synthetic drug.

Their purple glowing veins seemed to pulsate with their every move. They were large and bulky but also quick on their feet.

You tried to jump back to get some distance between you but failed. Two steps of yours were compensated by one of theirs.

You felt like a rat being chased through a cage. You could feel steel bars breathing down your neck, whispering that there was no escape and you were just lying to yourself.

Originally you had planned to stack back to back with Vi but that plan had gone down the drain after mere seconds. Even though none of the seven enemies seemed like they had a sound mind they had been smart enough to drive the two of you apart.

Now Vi was on the other end of the arena, struggling against four men with her bare hands while you had the pleasure to deal with the largest three.

With your teeth clenched you managed to dug through a punch. Without hesitation you threw your hand up, claws reaching for the throat.

The metal tips sunk into the flesh like a hot knife into butter. Blood gushed out from the deep cuts that you tore into the body.

But as it splattered all over your arms it felt different than usual. It wasn't warm but cold as ice, less sticky and more like the touch of harmless acid.

Your skin started to prickle, chasing a shiver of discomfort up your spine.

Choking, the man broke down in the sand, both hands pressed to the wound to keep the blood inside his body. The strangely glowing eyes flicked and for one second the drugged monster was replaced but cold human fear.

However you had no time to feel sorry for him. Another hand reached out for you, was able to grab a fist full of that (H/C) hair of yours.

Your heart took a leap, exited your chest and was suddenly up inside your throat. You could feel it beat below your chin as you jerked your head back.

A sharp pain chased across your scalp as strands of hair were torn out. It was painful and you could have sworn bloody as well but it bought you your freedom.

Quickly, you snuck around the monster who was trapped in a moment of surprise and sliced its back open with both hands.

Shimmering purple and velvet red poured all over the sand, drenched the scraps of clothes he was dressed in and wetted the ground to your feet.

You could feel yourself sinking but before your feet were entirely trapped you jumped away. Right into the arms of another man.

Huge hands wrapped around your arm and have it such a harsh squeeze that you couldn't help but scream. Pain paralysed your body, made your legs go weak.

You tried to reach for his face but he seemed sound enough to dodge the attack. More pressure pressed the skin and flesh against your bone.

It was as if a fire burned below the surface. Your feet lifted off the ground as he pulled you up, cold anger and the urge for violence reflecting in his glowing eyes.

Tears made your vision blur as the bone started to shatter under the influence of seemingly inhumane force. No man was capable of something like this.

You had broken many bones, had taken many beatings. But this was something entirely different. Your breath hitched inside your throat, throwing your breathing for a loop as pain exploded inside your arms and chased up all the way to your shoulder.

It exploded, made half your body go numb and your legs flinch. All of a sudden the feeling inside your left hand was gone and instead it just burned.

"Argh!", you hissed through clenched teeth, forcing down a wave of pain while the feeling of blood left your arm.

A low sound escaped the man. The split lips curled up to form a smile. With that sight something inside your stomach exploded.

Anger and adrenaline mixed together, driving nausea up your throat.

"You goddamn bastard!", you snarled and lifted your right hand to plant some deep scars across his face.

The feeling of skin being shredded like paper made your entire body grow goosebumps. Screaming in pain the man dropped you into the sand.

You fell hard, gasping for air as the dull impact chased another wave of pain through the broken bone. With no time to loose you managed to get back on your feet, although quite shaky and scored another hit to his face.

Both eyes drenched in blood and shimmer he remained on the ground, screaming and curling in the sand.

The world started to sway below your feet. Your own breath echoed inside your ears. Almost as if you were miles away from your own body.

Your gaze darted through the arena while the feeling of blood wetted your naked feet. With the right hand pressed to your numb shoulder to forced yourself to go on.

Vi was still fighting for her life. One man had earned himself a well placed punch to the throat, causing him to roll through the sand, choking for air.

The other three had managed to surround her. Things looked far from good. Blood covered the white bandages around her knuckles. It was hard to tell if it was her own or the one of her enemies.

Even though your vision was affected by the pain you could tell by her breathing that she was about to meet her limit.

Her breaths were uneven and her eyes jumped from one man to the other in a hasty manner. Sweat ran down the bridge of her pointed nose.

She wouldn't be able to win this on her own unless she'd manage to separate the remaining three. Your legs flinched, wanted to rush to her aid but the pain made your feet stumble.

With an exhausted gasp you fell into the sand.

"Vi...", you managed to gasp.
