chapter 8.
sooyoung lousily stepped in her room, taking out her phone before tossing her purse somewhere. she moved the items on her desk and turn the lamp on.
"okay, okay. just say what you wanna say." she whispered to herself.
she pressed on the contact number that was recently added on her device. "fuck, i hate apologizing."
the girl stared at the number, biting on her nails while her leg couldn't stop bouncing.
she finally gathered enough courage to tap on the voice record button as she cleared her throat, preparing for the message she was about to say.
"i know you hate me right now, but please hear me out." she figures the boy would recognize her voice and instantly block her.
"i'm sorry." she breathes out. "i'm sorry for everything. i wanted to atleast have the decency to say it in person, but i don't think you're ever going to talk to me."
sooyoung winces, noticing how it seems like she was implying it was his fault. "and i don't blame you. i was immature and a jackass, and made you go through things you didn't deserve." she pauses as she swallowed nervously.
"and i know i'm selfish for wanting to face you after everything i did, but i just wanted you to hear it from me." running out of words to say and feeling as if it wasn't enough, she simply said what she wanted to say.
"you were the first person who genuinely cared about me. not my money or my status, just... me as a person." after pursing her lips due to the feeling of dehydration, she continued, "which must have been really hard, and i never really got to say thank you for that."
sighing deeply in disappointment, she silently groaned. "god, i'm talking about me again. great job, sooyoung."
she pressed on the button which should have stopped and deleted the recording.
to her surprise, her screen showed that she already sent the message. not believing she made a huge mistake, she pulled the device closer to her wide eyes which only confirmed that she had indeed sent it.
"shit!" she yelped, throwing her phone away from shock. "why? just why?"
the girl puffed, repeatingly letting air in her lungs to not panic. just play it cool.
obnoxiously clearing her throat as she grabbed the device, she recorded another message. "anyway, yeah. i really don't care if you accept it or not."
wanting this torture to end, she concluded, "i just wanted you to know i'm truly sorry and that, uhm," she contemplated but officially finished her sentence, "you were one of the best things that happened to me."
she successfully sent it and considered it a great achievement. "you did it, soo."
her face, then, sulked as realizes how much pride she threw away. she wanted to slap herself, but not wanting to ruin her face, she simply grabbed her hair and squirmed on her mattress.
-
sooyoung walked through the halls where the lockers were located. san and yunho were already in their classrooms and minjee had just texted her that she was going to be late.
"fresh meat." an infuriating call was heard from behind. "do you think you got off the hook?"
the girl slowly turned around, already annoyed as it is. it was joonsoo with a couple other guys and another girl who looked like she smashed a cake on her face.
she wanted to ignore and walk away from them, but she only got pushed back when she tried.
"you still owe me." joonsoo taunted. "you broke my pen, remember?"
sooyoung rolled her eyes. "i'm gonna be late."
the cake-faced girl shoved the new student's shoulder, making sooyoung want to pounce on her. "watch your tone, bitch."
the transferee glared at the hand, thinking about separating it from the rest of her body. you're a new person now. it's okay. ignore and-
"what's with that look?" joonsoo barked as he pointed it out. "don't glare at jinnyeon."
"babe, it's okay." jinnyeon disgustingly (for sooyoung) giggled. "that's what she gets for hanging out with lowlifes."
that's it. i'll choke this-
"snowflake!"
the group stepped back hearing the voice. "kim hongjoong." joonsoo greets out of character which the newly arrived boy disregards.
hongjoong went beside sooyoung and he could tell how much she was bothered by them. "aren't you going to class?"
"new fish to fry, joong?" one of the guys grinned wickedly, acting as if they were close friends.
without wasting a second, the blue haired boy kicked the guy harshly which caused him to fall backwards while whining and hugging his stomach.
"what the-"
"it's none of your business, maggot." hongjoong sneered at the group. "anymore questions, you hemorrhoids?"
joonsoo gave the two a dirty look before saying a, "no." and helping his friend up as they went away.
"you good, snowflake?"
"thank you." sooyoung blurted out as she relaxed.
the boy scratched his head. "i mean, if people are giving you a hard time-"
"i was about to kill atleast one of them. thanks for stopping me." she hissed with pure hatred.
that wasn't what hongjoong thought she was in gratitude for, causing him to laugh as he ruffled her hair. "there she is."
"hey!" sooyoung moved his hand away, covering her head. "it took me thirty minutes for my hair!"
the boy continued laughing at her fuming state. this earned him smack on his head.
"okay, that hurt, snowflake." he faked a pout before flicking the other's forehead.
it didn't hurt at all but sooyoung felt a bit playful. she clutched her forehead in a theatrical manner and let out dramatic groans. "ow~"
hongjoong chuckled at the exaggeration.
their fun little banter was cut short when a certain teacher yelled, "kim hongjoong!"
both of them turned around and came face to face with their history teacher, mr. kwan. "did you just hit ms. im?"
"man, we were just-"
"enough! violence is not tolerated in this school." the professor dismissed his explanation before he could even give it.
sooyoung wanted to try and defend her friend. "sir, i'm-"
"hongjoong, i know you've always been problematic but hitting a girl?" mr. kwan stated in disappointment. this oddly gave the girl an idea to get them both out of trouble.
the boy rolled his eyes. "snowflake, it didn't even hurt, right?"
"no excuses! you'll be seeing me in the principal's office."
fingers crossed. the lass thought.
suddenly sooyoung hit hongjoong really hard from behind his head with her palm, shocking the other two.
"so, we'll see you in the principal's office?" sooyoung asked the adult innocently.
"ms. im-"
"i also hit him." the girl blinked cluelessly. "so, that must mean i'm also in trouble. right, sir?"
"i..." the teacher couldn't seem to find a solution. "i'll let it go this time."
sooyoung grinned in success. "so we're both free?"
mr. kwan simply nodded and walked away after eyeing the boy up and down.
"what a killjoy." the transferee mutters.
"i'm so getting you back for that." hongjoong all of the sudden said, moving the strands of hair on her forehead back. he propelled his finger, preparing to flick her.
this made sooyoung scrunch her nose, preparing for his attack.
her expression made hongjoong halt and admire her for a while, finding her adorable at the moment.
the girl opened one of her eyes to take a peek, wondering why the other was taking too long.
a little flustered at her glimpsing, hongjoong simply pushed her face away. "you owe me."
"we got each other out of trouble. i don't owe you anything." sooyoung huffed, fixing her ruined hair.
"about that dude," the boy spoke while trying to slowdown his increasing heartbeat. "why don't you just tell yang joonsoo you're rich?"
the girl quickly hushed him as she looked around as if afraid that someone heard them. "don't say that out loud."
hongjoong did a zipping motion on his lips, nodding. "can i ask why, snowflake?"
"my friends don't know about it, okay?" she sighed depressingly. "and they don't necessarily like elites."
"yikes." the boy sucked air between his teeth. "you're friends with those weirdos, right?"
"okay, fuck you. don't call them weirdos." grumbled the girl. "please don't tell me you bother them, too."
"i'm not a bully." hongjoong almost sounded offended. "and that san dude was pretty cool or whatever."
"may i remind you that your best friend rejected him in the harshest way possible."
"well, to be fair, you broke up with him in the harshest- ah!" the blue haired male exclaimed when he received a punch.
"you promise you're not bullying my friends?" she glowered.
"let's see." he placed his thumb and pointer on his chin, and did a counting motion. "already said san was cool, mingi and yunho were the school's punching bag for a while but they never interested me. choi jongho's parents are our business partners, and i literally have no clue who that girl who always clings onto you is."
he finishes with a smile. "did i pass?
"barely." she deadpanned. "i'm going to class now."
"don't be mad, snowflake!" hongjoong teased, chuckling to himself when she left.
i'm having too much fun with her.
