chapter 17.
two years ago
sooyoung had her mouth agape seeing her boyfriend enter the classroom.
news about their break up-one they staged-spread around the school, but it was no surprise to everyone.
why would im sooyoung spend more time with a guy like him?
however, the class never expected this nobody to be so... hot.
he changed his style completely. wore piercings, loosened his necktie, and parted his hair four to six ratio.
all day at school, the couple had to ignore each other for the sake of people believing their lie. and they didn't enjoy a second of it.
sooyoung, most especially, had to endure watching other girls asking him out. apart from that, wooyoung was showing off his looks to everyone when it should only be to her!
at the end of the day, the girl asked wooyoung to come to their house.
"hi, soo." wooyoung greeted, hugging her and kissing her cheek. he, then, noticed that his girlfriend was sulking. "what's wrong?"
"you think you're cute?" the question made wooyoung raise an eyebrow. "well, you are! you can't just- you're- why did you change your hair?"
the boy pressed his lips together to hold his laughter, which sooyoung did not overlook. "why are you laughing?!"
"because-" wooyoung inhaled to stop giggling. "you said you like my hair like this, a couple days ago."
sooyoung crossed her arms, recalling how she played with his hair while hanging out with their newly adopted puppy, two. "but-"
"i'm trying to impress my girlfriend." he cheekily as he planted his hands on her waist, causing her to be more flustered than she already is. "why? you don't like it?"
"no!" she exclaimed. "wait, i mean- it suits you. don't change it." she huffed, touching his gelled hair. "pretty."

minjee and sooyoung, with arms interlocked, skipped towards the school grounds where the teacher said the bus was waiting.
"gather up." ms. hwang instructed. "your seats in the bus are arranged alphabetically, so once i called your name, show me your permit and take your seat accordingly."
this made some students whine, especially sooyoung since she was really looking forward to being with her best friend.
"let's just call our driver, screw this." she grumbled, making minjee giggle.
"i don't think they'll let us in like that." the shorter says. "this sucks but it'll only be a two hour trip! maybe we'll be roommates!"
"chae minjee." the teacher called, causing a pout on both the girls' faces.
they gave each other a final side hug before minjee entered the vehicle.
god, i'm already lonely.
she held onto the straps of her backpack, impatiently waiting for her name.
"im sooyoung." finally. she took out her permit, and upon receiving approval, she went in. "your seat is on the sixth row on the left."
she waved to minjee who was on the second row, quite far.
the girl began counting, and reached the row she was supposed to be on.
you have got to be kidding me. her brain automatically thought once she saw who she was sitting with.
mentally groaning, she sighed sharply and made her way to the seat.
why didn't she think their names would be beside each other? im and jung. i and j. ugh.
(a/n: i know the korean alphabet has a different structure but let me be for the sake of the story HAHAHAHAHA)
soon enough, the bus was filled with their classmates and their trip towards the venue began.
a few minutes went by and sooyoung couldn't stay still anymore.
"wooyoung, let's switch." she ushered, poking his arm.
the lilac shrugged her off. "no. i like the window seat."
"no, you don't." sooyoung tented her eyebrows. she remembers her first time commuting with him and many more times after that.
"yes, i do." his eyes were still locked outside.
"but you always let me have the-" oh.
she bit her lip, realizing she got used to the small things wooyoung did for her before. still, she kept trying. "come on, it's not like we don't know each other."
"who are you again?" the purple haired boy faked a clueless tone.
the girl rolled her eyes at his behavior. "woo, we dated for two years."
wooyoung blinked. "satan?"
"asshole." sooyoung leaned back her chair, grouching.
the boy snickered. "i've been called worse."
"i bet."
"yeah, like your boyfriend." he commented naturally.
the girl scoffed, looking at him with a hint of annoyance. "oh, fuck you. you used to compliment me all the time and now, it's like you have a degree in pissing me off."
"my bad, soo. i tend to have grudges over the smallest things." wooyoung said sarcastically.
"i said sorry." she huffed, crossing her arms.
"in the best way possible, yes." he says in a scornful manner.
sooyoung would be lying if she said she completely hated having banters like this again. she faked a pout. "when did you become so mean?"
"learned from the best." he eyed her up and down, earning a very offended expression.
"forget it." sooyoung frowned, turning away from him.
unbeknownst to her, wooyoung was enjoying teasing his ex girlfriend. her reactions were always exaggerated and it wasn't hard to tell what she was actually feeling. that made it fun.
she hasn't spoken for some time now, and wooyoung slightly worried if he went overboard.
he stretched his neck, moving closer as she still wasn't facing him, to see if she was upset. "are you actually mad?"
sooyoung promptly turned her head as she heard him speak first, not expecting how near they were to each other.
the distance almost made their noses touch, resulting both of them to widen their eyes and jolt backwards in an instant.
wooyoung hit the back of his head on the window, while sooyoung lost balance and fell.
the thumping sounds both made their classmates check what was going on with the two. they were greeted by the sight of sooyoung on the floor and wooyoung holding his head.
"what is going on there?" ms. hwang questioned.
"nothing!" the girl picked herself up and dusted her skirt. "nothing. the road was just bumpy." thankfully, that excuse was good enough to let the fuss go.
"you good?" wooyoung unexpectedly asked as she sat back down. "sorry."
sooyoung nodded. "yeah. you? told you, you should've given me the seat."
"it's still a no, soo." the lilac chuckled.
sooyoung sighed out a defeated 'awe' followed by a grin. she took a good look at the boy beside her, becoming aware of the fact that not a lot of his features have changed.
he still had that eye smile, bread-like cheeks and sharp jawline. she never intended for it to come out but it did. "purple suits you, by the way."
wooyoung stared at her as she made the compliment. "a decent personality suits you as well."
"shut up." sooyoung lightly smacks him.
the rest of the travel were filled with more derisive jokes, and occasionally hearing a certain giggle coming from behind them which they found out to be none other than kang yeosang, who seemed to be happily texting his girlfriend.
the bus finally stop, marking that they have arrived at the hotel building they were staying in.
looking out the window, sooyoung saw three other buses which she was guessing was for the supervisors and the two other sections of their grade.
"soo!" minjee went to her. "i saw san and yunho. let's go!"
sooyoung smiled at her friend then turned to the boy. "i guess i'll see you around?"
"yeah." he briefly replied, picking up his things as he waited for his lovestruck friend.
the girls exited the bus, having a bit of trouble with their bags.
"everyone has already been assigned to their perspective rooms. each room will have four people, so you guys will be sharing." the student council president announced. "remember that this trip is graded, so if one of your roommates is missing after curfew, you'll all be deducted points."
"soo, i'll find a bathroom real quick. if you see my name, can you text me what room i'm in?" minjee requested as she fidgeted in a place.
"sure thing. don't get lost." sooyoung reminded playfully.
"i'll try." said the shorter girl as she separated from her friend.
"chae minjee and im sooyoung?" someone called.
"sooyoung here." she raised her hand, seeing the person approach her. she recalled this girl, just not sure where. "what is it?"
"we're roommates." she says. "i wouldn't want you guys to be lost. room 248. let's go."
sooyoung followed from behind, still curious where she saw her.
"what?" her supposed roommate asked, not missing her obvious staring.
and that's when it clicked. she's a girlfriend of one of wooyoung's friends.
"you're that bitch." oops. that was supposed to be only in her head.
jihae halted her tracks, slowly turning her head. "excuse me?"
