chapter 16.
it was already too late.
it was too late when sooyoung realized that she still had wooyoung's jacket.
playing fetch with two may had distracted her from the fact that he hates her since the lilac kept smiling and giggling with the puppy.
dinner also went... okay?
ms. jung talked about her new boyfriend, earning a cheerful congratulations and a demand of invitation for the wedding from mrs. im. sooyoung also realized how much she missed the desserts her ex's mother used to make. everyone was enjoying themselves.
well, aside from the fact that sooyoung's father kept on reminding wooyoung that she hasn't had a boyfriend since him, and that he can take her back whenever.
it was embarrassing for the both of them. literal torture.
so, now here she is, contemplating whether to face him return his jacket or just lie and say that two pooped on it.
deciding against the latter, she was now inside the classroom, waiting for the said lilac.
she woke up and went to school earlier than usual since she expected wooyoung to still be an early bird, yet a few minutes passed and there was still no one who sat in front of her.
more students arrived and classes were almost starting, still no signs of him.
she grew impatient and took it upon herself to check if he was outside. she scanned the halls, and there she laid her eyes upon a group of four guys.
she marched towards them and cleared her throat.
"snowflake. what brings you here?" hongjoong breaks into a smile.
"hi, joong." she greets back. "wooyoung."
"what do you want?" the purple haired instantly groaned.
"geez, atleast try to hide your hatred." sooyoung said, making them snicker. "here." she held out the jacket.
wooyoung eyed the piece of clothing. "keep it."
"i don't want anything reminding me of you." the girl rolled her eyes playfully.
"shouldn't your response be, thank you so much. i'll take care of it for sure." wooyoung clowned.
"if you like it that much, you keep it." she clicked her tongue and shoved the piece of clothing in his hands. her lips were pursed from trying hard not to break out to a grin. she was quite happy to be joking around like this. "see you-"
"hwa! what are you still doing here? aren't you supposed to be in class?" another female voice was heard.
sooyoung unintentionally glared at her, as she cut her off.
the newly arrived girl stared back. "what?"
"nothing." sooyoung irritatedly muttered. "see you in class, woo."
"yeah." the boy replied with a nod, watching her walk off.
"jihae, babe." seonghwa pecked his girlfriend's cheek. "we were just finishing some things."
"wasn't that woo's ex?" she tilted her chin at sooyoung.
"yep." the ravenette shortly responded as he snaked his hands around her waist from behind and rested his chin on her head.
seeing him get so clingy never fails to make his friends want to throw up.
"noona, are they really going along with that field trip thing you were talking about?" yeosang asked.
jihae was a year older than them despite being in the same grade level and a part of the student council, so she knew some plans the school already had. she somehow ended up telling them about a mandatory field trip.
"looks like it." the girl sighed. "also, what are you guys doing? classes start in ten minutes."
hongjoong lets out a whine. "but classes are boring."
"joong, do you want me to count all your demerit points?" jihae smiled with evilness.
"no, ma'am." the blue haired boy smiled back.
"babe, please. just a little bit off schedule?" seonghwa gave her his puppy eyes.
"okay." she said. "but i guess that means we can't have our date-"
"no, no, no, no, no, no." the eldest guy chanted quickly. "i'm going, i'm going." he kissed cheek again before letting her go. "i love you."
"love you, too, hwa." she gestured him to go. she turned to the other three boys with disgust written on their faces. "shut up. you're all just jealous."
"jealous of how many times i gagged in the last five minutes?" wooyoung questioned sarcastically.
"woo, seven minutes 'til classes."
"right."
"we love you, noona!" the three shouted as they ran away, making jihae almost throw her shoe at them.
-
"are you okay?" sooyoung finally asked the sulking girl beside her as the bell rang, indicating lunch.
minjee sighed loudly. she's been acting a bit differently. not so much to worry, but enough that you can see something was wrong. "i don't wanna see jongho. he hates me."
"what?" the random statement made sooyoung surprised. "did you two have a fight?"
"i hate this." the shorter frustratingly grabbed her hair.
"what happened? is it bad?" her friend slightly winced seeing minjee so stressed.
the volleyball player went closer to her ear and whispered something that made her gasp in excitement.
"oh, my god! congratulations!" sooyoung clapped but saw that minjee still wasn't happy. "not congratulations?" she said unsurely.
"i don't know anymore."
"what's wrong? i mean, he obviously likes you, too!" the girl said, wondering what's making the other upset.
"no, he doesn't." minjee suddenly remembered jongho's words. you're just saying that because you know i like you. "yes, he does." she frowned. "but he thinks i don't like him."
that made sooyoung suck air between her teeth. "oh, god."
-
"yunho." jongho called the male sitting beside him. minjee and sooyoung hasn't arrived at the table yet so it was still the four them.
as much as the youngest wanted to stay quiet and just pretend everything is normal, he couldn't. minjee was the only one he opened up to despite the friendships he made with the others.
of course his mention of yunho's name didn't go unnoticed, and gave them a bit of a shock.
san, mingi, and yunho halted their movements and faced the youngest. the tallest gulped. "yes, jongho?"
"am i dense?" the boy asked, showing a bit of emotion.
the other three looked at each other warily. mingi cleared his throat. "uhm- why do you ask?"
"does minjee like me?" jongho tried again, making the question more forward.
they did not expect him to ask that, which made the atmosphere awkward since no one wanted to answer.
"i'm stupid." now, jongho was pouting.
the three of them were trying to stop their grins as they saw a different side of the usually cold boy. they felt like their little brother was growing up and it was adorable.
"you're not stupid, jongho." san moved closer to him and put an arm around his shoulder. "love is blind is what they say!"
"not helping." jongho grumbled, scrunching his nose as he continued to get teased.
"hey, guys." sooyoung's voice caught their attention.
"soo!" san giggled. "come here. sit beside me." he patted on the seat to his left.
this made the girl smile and settle down.
"i wonder if i can save the world with my invisibility." minjee said dramatically, the others straighten their backs.
"well, the seat beside jongho is free. you know, like how it's always been for you." yunho stated, causing slight awkwardness to arise.
minjee swallowed nervously, sitting down her usual seat.
it wasn't hard to tell that they both wanted to avoid whatever it is they're facing. from the silence to not looking at each other once, it was pretty clear.
lunch went on like that. a small tension in the air could be felt but not enough to make everyone feel stuffy.
at the end of the day, however, came a shock to minjee when she saw jongho waiting outside her classroom.
sooyoung immediately knew the boy wanted to be alone with the volleyball player, so she gave her friend a side hug and skipped towards san's classroom.
"can i walk you to the bus stop?" jongho carefully asked, looking at the ground.
minjee inaudibly exhaled to calm her racing heart. "w-well, you have legs. duh."
a/n: please, i don't want to be in school anymore. i want to dropout and live off my friends in the future. i'm so stupid, and i can't do anything right. sivjfnsickrh
