chapter 15.

three years ago

"soo?" as wooyoung opened the door, he was astonished to find his girlfriend infront of his doorstep.

"i said i was coming." the girl rolled her eyes, making her way in. "i hate my life."

the boy followed her in a hurry after picking up her coat. "soo, uhm-"

"like, seriously. sometimes, i just wanna-" sooyoung halted her words when she saw an older woman stepping in the living room.

the adult smiled. "who do we have here?"

wooyoung gulped consciously. "mom, hi. uhm- this is sooyoung. she's uh-"

"his girlfriend." the girl said for him seeing how much he fidgeted, making him freeze. she squinted her eyes at her boyfriend. "what?"

"i didn't know you had a girlfriend, young-ah!" ms. jung exclaimed happily. "you were always too shy to-"

"mom." wooyoung stopped her, getting flushed.

"hi, ms. jung. i'm im sooyoung." she introduced herself with a slight bow.

"im? sarang's daughter?" the woman grinned and clapped her hands out of excitement when she received a nod. "wonderful! have you told your parents that you're here?"

the girl shrugged. "they wouldn't care."

ms. jung sucked air through her teeth as she squinted her eyes. "why'd you say that?"

"they never have time for me, like, why did they even bother having me?" sooyoung uttered carelessly, causing her boyfriend to tap her.

"soo-"

"do you want to have dinner with us?" wooyoung's mother asked joyfully.

this made sooyoung a bit cautious since it's her first time meeting an adult like... her. she has always thought there's a motive everytime someone's nice to her.

except wooyoung. he's true, that's why they're friends now.

ms. jung seemed to notice the girl putting her guard up. "no need to be so tense! you can say no, if you don't want to."

"i want to." sooyoung instantly said.

"alright!" ms. jung could see what mrs. im meant by how her daughter needed a little help in communicating, and not being mean or demanding in general. "you're always welcome here, but you might miss out on a night where your parents are the ones waiting for you."

"that's impossible." the girl scoffed.

"you never know. you're dad just became the new ceo, right? he must be really stressed juggling everything. and i'm sure your mom is trying her best to be there for you, your father, and their business." the adult explains, taking out the plates for them.

"how'd you know that?"

"because i'm a parent myself." ms. jung chuckles, signalling both teenagers to sit down as the food was ready. "don't be so hard on them. they did a great job raising such a beautiful and bright girl."

sooyoung could feel her cheeks warm up from getting flustered. she clears her throat and says, "well, i guess you also successfully raised a hot man so-"

"soo!" wooyoung yells, reminding both ladies he was still there.

but that doesn't stop them from pretending he wasn't.

"i did, didn't i?" ms. jung agreed with a giggle.

"mom!"

"hi, mrs. im." wooyoung greeted in a surprisingly polite tone.

"my, my, have you grown!" sooyoung's mom pinched his cheeks. "you used to be so adorable and-"

"mom, let's go." the girl grabbed the woman's hands away from the boy who was awkwardly standing there.

"oh, sooyoung! stop getting embarrassed!" mrs. im shook her away. "wooyoung, care to join us for dinner?"

the lilac unnoticeably swallowed. "i don't think-"

"young-ah!" someone nearby called, which immediately made wooyoung sigh in relief.

"mom."

the woman jogged towards her son, seeing he was with two other people. "and who do we have here?"

as sooyoung laid her eyes on her ex boyfriend's mother, she almost froze. "ms. jung." she barely greeted as she straighten her back.

"sooyoung?" ms. jung then stared at the other woman with her, letting out a gasp as she realized who it was. "sarang? it's been so long!"

"eunkyung! you're still as beautiful as ever! i was just inviting wooyoung to dinner, for old times sake." mrs. im intertwined their arms together, missing her old friend. "this is perfect! do you still bake?"

"ah, yes! we, uhm-" the woman glanced at her son. "we'd love to."

"mom!" wooyoung whisper-shouted.

"it'll be okay! and sarang is an old friend. i miss her." the adult reassured, only to hear the boy grumble.

-

the car ride was only filled with tension from both students. their mothers were pretty excited about seeing each other again, causing them to chatter non-stop and not bother checking on their children.

the car brought was a van, so the two adults were seated in the front row while the teens were behind them, trying their best to not mind one another (which was hell).

upon arriving on the im resident, they were welcomed by one of the maids who accompanied them to the dinning hall.

"eunkyung, come here. you need to bake me those brownies again!" mrs. im was filled with excitement. "i'm sure these two lovebirds wouldn't mind catching up. toodles~"

"oh-"

before she could be stopped, the woman grabbed her old friend, leaving the exes alone.

fuck. the two mentally cursed.

"you- uhm-" sooyoung started. "wanna head to the garden?"

the lilac figured he had nothing better to do, so he agreed. "do you still have the swings?"

"do you think i'm still a kid?" the girl huffed as she opened the doors.

"do you want me to answer honestly?"

sooyoung rolled her eyes, not really thinking of a comeback.

as they were walking on the pavement, something rubbed against wooyoung's leg. it felt soft and furry.

the boy looked down, and saw a dog.
a very familiar dog.

"two?"

the dog responded excitedly with a bark. it wagged it's tail and jumped around.

it was the little puppy they found under a truck back then. it got stuck and was crying. they decided to name it two-young as a tribute to their own names.

sooyoung notice the little fur ball. "oh, hi, baby." she crouched down but the dog seemed to pay no mind to her. "looks like someone missed you."

"well, she is my child."  the boy claimed thoughtlessly, petting the dog. it was something they said before, about how they were two's parents.

they unintentionally remembered the time when they fake-argued on who gets custody on her. sooyoung's father had a fear of dogs, while there was no one to take care of two in wooyoung's place.

in the end, they decided it would be best for the puppy to stay with the girl. sooyoung learned how to say 'please' to her parents because she wanted to keep it since the animal made wooyoung really happy.

maybe it was an excuse for wooyoung to come over more often, but let's not talk about that.

"you kept her?" the lilac asked, joy evident in his voice.

sooyoung scoffed at the assumption. "you think i was gonna throw her away?"

"she's a big girl now. does she still know how to play fetch?" the boy looked around for some sort of stick.

"only gotten better." she smirked, picking up a ball from god knows where.
