Transparent Stars

The sequel to Lesbian Guardians Make Decent Friends is coming, but I decided to do a few things in between because I'm a little scared to look back the sequel. There's a questionable scene or two in there. 😬

This story was on Wattpad at a point, but I unpublished it for some reason. However, it is still on my Quotev. This came at the end of 2020, which is when I was semi-okay at writing.

It happens within the same world/universe as Lesbian Guardians Make Decent Friends, but in the future. Where technically exists alongside magic and these creatures.

And it's only like 1000 words, because the story was never actually finished. This is technically just the first chapter. But it's also the only chapter so I guess it's like a one-shot?

Also, I do completely hate this one and the same character is narrating through the entire story. Once again, my commentary is in bold.

Some nights the sky is full of stars. Stars that are millions- billions of miles of away from this planet. Every stars burns bright until it reaches the end of its life. At the end of it's time burning in space it explodes. Dies.

This opening paragraph is pretty neat, in my opinion. In a way in correlates to the subtheme of story being that all the characters were sent to die in a war.

Much like living things. Most living things die at some point. Whether the life span is ten years to ten thousand years. Everything reaches its end, eventually.

Nigel be spitting facts.

I sometimes lie awake at night, contemplating the concepts of life and death.

Didn't realize you were my self insert. 😂

Perhaps I do it to cope with the fact that I am afraid. Afraid of life. Afraid of death. Afraid of never truly discovering my purpose to exist on this world. The thought of dying at the worst time possible fills my thoughts when I am left alone without anything to distract myself from doing so.

That's deep.

Enough with my nonsense ramblings.

My name is Nigel Cutter. My adventure began when I was called to serve my time in war. More specifically, Outpost Bomb Trail.

Now for the self introduction followed by an exposition dump. 🙄

I, along with four others, found ourselves at a small military outpost sent atop a snow covered mountain to monitor the area. Our assigned captain was a man of the name Dolan Highbirth. His father had served as a captain in the previous war which had been followed up by the one I was called to serve in. I suppose he followed in his father's footsteps.

Four? What happen to the other two? Also, Dolan's parent is non-binary. (Pretty sure this was written before I officially decided that Caleb [Dolan's mentioned parent] was non-binary, though.)

Speaking of the others, I should give my thoughts on everyone else who is trapped atop this mountain with me.

No. You shouldn't.

Ash Madison. She seems to tolerate everyone, somehow. She may be the shortest and smallest in size, yet I've learned that only makes her skills in combat more impressive. She's quite a valuable asset if I do say so myself.

Ash was the protagonist of the roleplay that this story was based off of. I don't know why you would need to know that, but now you know.

Dolan Highbirth. As I previously mentioned he is the captain of our group. Despite what you might think based on his father, he is extraordinarily nice. Polite as well. Though, he seems to get distracted by his want to make friends with everyone in Bomb Trial. Depending on when and why he gets distracted this is either beneficial or non-beneficial.

"Extraordinarily nice" sounds kinda weird. I should've just used friendly.

Echo Floud. Despite what your impression of him might be, he is in fact a male. His feminine and more child-like features are merely a blanket that covers his true nature of trying to make everyone around him miserable. By that I mean he is an extremely obnoxious more than most of the time. He seems to enjoy the fact that he constantly gets on everyone nerves.

Echo! My favorite of the child golden roleplay group!

Gwen Cavel. She's our group's optimist. I wouldn't say she's necessarily annoying, she just puts a little much effort into her actions. I've also taken note that she is definitely not the sharpest tool in the shed... Though, I suppose not everyone is an absolute genius. In a way, it's good to have someone will a kind heart such as Gwen around.

How dare you call Gwen stupid, Nigel.

Then we have myself. I could explain what I think I'm like, though I'd much rather someone gather an opinion on me without my influence. Considering this—

This specific line was thrown in because I remember there was a lesson in one of my English classes about characters saying how another character is (example: Character is nice, Character is rude) versus how the reader interrupts a character and/or their behavior.

Nigel basically said he wants the reader to decide an opinion on him. 😂

"I will avenge you, Snowbuddy!" Gwen shouted, as she scooped up snow her black gloves.

I actually do this a lot in my writing. I have the protagonist or narrator either talk feelings or setting, before transitioning to characters doing dialogue.

"Hehehe," Echo snickered, excited that he had 'killed' Gwen's snowman.

Murder.

She chucked her large snowball at Echo. He was the one who had thrown a snowball at the snowman Gwen had made earlier today. Snowbuddy, as she called it.

I think the paragraph should have started with Snowbuddy's creation and ended with Gwen chucking a snowball at Echo.

The snowball hit Echo directly in the face, which caused him to slip and fall. He landed on his back. The thick snow had broken most of the impact he would have received from his fall, otherwise.

The "He landed on his back." could be taken out because that's the way people normally fall when they get hit in the face.

"Echo are you okay?!" Ash questioned, as she went over to check on the fallen boy. She squatted down to check if he was really okay. "He's not dead. I don't think..."

😨 It's the nurse all over again—

"Did you check his pulse?" I suggested, deciding to intervene in today's odd morning shenanigans. "That is a great to tell if someone is dead or not."

"Err, well..." She looked away from me, embarrassed she hadn't thought of that herself.

Protagonist moment.

She placed her palm on Echo's wrist before sliding her hand up and down before finding the right spot. After a devastating second she let out a relieving sigh, signifying that he wasn't dead.

It's just a snowball. Yeah it was a big snowball, but just a snowball.

"Oh, crap!..." Gwen ran over to the scene of Echo laying unconscious on the snow with Ash squatting over him. "I didn't mean to throw it that hard! I just wanted to avenge Snowbuddy and I–"

Just now she realizes what she's done.

"It's fine, Gwen," Ash stood up and gave the other girl a light expression of assurance. "Worst thing that could happen is Echo staying the infirmary all day."

That would actually be great, because canonically he gets on everyone's nerves.

"Yeah, but," The brown haired girl had a face of guilt and slight worry. "What if I caused something, something bad to happen to Echo just because I got mad about my snowman getting destroyed?..."

I understand that Gwen is a character that would worry about other people like that, but this squabble seems a little overblown.

"Well," The short girl glanced at the boy on the ground with a smirk. "He did destroy your snowman. I'd say that's every reason to peg him with a tightly packed snowball."

😂 Ash is right.

Gwen didn't respond. She was too confused by the out of character line Ash had just said.

"Should we tell Dolan about this?" I approached the two girls standing around the unconscious little devil on the snow covered ground. "I won't tell if you two don't want me to."

"Don't tell him," Gwen quickly responded with a second of hesitation. "He probably won't get mad, but I don't want to be banned from going outside and playing in the snow."

"Yeah," Ash agreed with her. "I don't want to lose the one time of the day where I can relax and get some fresh air."

I don't if relaxing is because they aren't busy (which would be why they were playing in the snow) or because Echo isn't conscious. Probably the first one, since I don't think Ash has a huge problem with Echo.

"Then how will we explain Echo being unconscious to him?" I asked them, thinking ahead and planning for the future.

"Let's say," The short girl put a hand to her chin thinking up a little white lie to tell the captain. "He slipped on some ice and then fell into a thick pile of snow. The shear coldness along with the impact from his fall caused him to lose consciousness."

👀 *concern*

"Whoa, geez, Ash," The brown haired girl starred at the short pink haired girl in awe. "You could be a detective or mystery novel protagonist with your quick thinking skills."

😂 I put this group in a killing game once. That line was a reference to that. (I'll probably critic it eventually.)

"She could also be a decent criminal with her quick and believable lying skills," I was meaning it as a joke, but the two girls thought I was be serious. "I was joking." I clarified for them.

This sounds like a kind Quinn would say, except he isn't here yet so Nigel said it.

"Oh, right," Gwen tried to act as if she knew that from the start.

"Well, we should take Echo to the infirmary," The pink haired girl suggested.

They've just been talking while Echo's lying unconscious in the snow. 😂

Gwen and I both nodded in agreement. Together, though Ash and Gwen could have probably managed without me, the three of us took Echo to the infirmary. We used Ash's lie to cover for Gwen as planned. Dolan believed us since Echo was still unconscious and couldn't tell his side of the story to refute the three of our claims.

Then we continued on with our day as if nothing had happened. It was more peaceful without Echo around, though his absence was strange. Luckily, he would be as good as new tomorrow.

This was supposed to continue, but my brain rot ended so I never got to the part where I showed Nigel's one-sided crush on Gwen and how he eventually overcomes it and learns to cherish their friendship as a friendship.

But I kinda like it as it is. Much better that first things for sure.
